I don't care for the back insulation it flattens out all the time I'd rather sea foam spray painted foam it makes the wall stronger and it never finds out what's better process fiberglass batt insulation that's the bottom of the line.

Just watched this video. I am debating between Tiffin and Newmar gas coaches. Tiffin has one piece fiberglass roof. I wish the Newmar gas coach did too. Thoughts on the differences between the two roofs (at least in the gas line)?

The thinking about putting in batts is a little off. Why because your house does not move, sway and vibrate like a motorhome does. It stands still so batt insulation works. This is not the case in a motorhome because it is always moving so the batts ride up or down and side to side leaving holes in the walls where there is no insulation. I would have thought polystyrene blocks would have been better. They are light and they do not move. They are used to make model aircraft wings because they are light and can be shaped into the shape of a wing using heat and then covered with shrink wrap. They are flexible and strong also.

nice construction BUT batt insulation also absorbs moisture! Water damage biggest problem with motor homes imo
@tooter3026 жыл бұрын
Its glued in place. We have peeled the walls off old Newmar's that were in our body shop for collision repair and the insulation hasn't moved at all.
@tooter3026 жыл бұрын
I agree water damage is biggest problem with all RV's. Even a laminated wall with Styrofoam insulation generally still has a layer of wood (Luan) under the fiberglass. If it gets wet, the wood swells, the wall delaminates. When you are counting on the lamination to provide strength (since there aren't many studs in a laminated wall) Its a huge problem to have a delamination issue. That's why regular roof maintenance is so critical on ANY rv. I prefer the Newmar wall because it can't delaminate and the strength comes from the studs. Just one man's opinion.

Thank you VERY much for this video. My first RV this year is a 2003 Windsport, and with the problems I had with it I got intimate with how (and how quickly/cheaply) it's built. I was starting to have an idea of building my own RV from an F53 bare chassis in a couple of years given how lamination and other weak points seem to be industry-wide, wondering if ANYONE out there built walls decently. It now sounds like Newmar may be what I'm actually going to be looking for. It'll be interesting, when I get to that point, to see if they'd agree to build an unfinished unit on an F53 or Freightliner chassis. I want a box and basement insulated to tolerate our -30C winters (no styrofoam laminate could do that!), but I'd love to build the inside (cabinetry, etc.) on my own.

Removing material does not make a channel stronger. If that's what you were told by the manufacturer, you were fed some uninformed wank with that. Removing the material saves weight primarily, but can also reduce construction costs due to making other processes of construction easier. Removing the material in that way reduces its strength very little compared to the weight of the material removed, so whats happening is the strength to weight ratio is improving, despite its overall strength being reduced.

I understand the why for most, but wouldn't a denser spray foam be better? it's more ridged, and laminated dense foam walls are stronger, a better insulator and won't sink or sag.

So you are correct this is how old walls of houses were built but today high performance homes have surpassed batt fiber glass. (Yes it’s still king in construction, but that’s based on cost, hmm) Who spray foams MHs? Any manufacturer injection insulating studs out there?

@baloneyjusticecheezedog6 жыл бұрын
Nope! This stuff is still in use. I just bought over 200 feet of it for a garage. I would of done a blow in insulation instead but this was cheaper since all I needed was a staple gun to put it in. Seriously we don't ban guns, cigarettes, or loot boxes for games played by small children... why do you think we ban fiberglass insulation? No offense ment by this... but "We literally protect the right to keep and bear arms." So by many peoples include some of our own supreme court... it is totally ok by our own laws to keep the method by which you choose to kill someone and use it. When you have this mentality about a thing that is dangerous, and meant to kill people, and you don't seek to keep it away from people.. its vary hard to prevent anyone from making anything they want. And that will include alot of things including fiberglass insulation.

As an architectural engineer, let's clarify a few things. #1 C channel is not as strong as square tubing. #2 fiberglass insulation (loose fill in general) is nowhere near as efficient as foam (comparable thicknesses.) Secondly, when using loose fill insulation, the installation process often leads to gaps or places where the insulation is compromised. That is clearly visible in your display. And lastly, if you are running wires in the same cavity as said insulation, we'll you just completely ruin it. Hence why spray foam is quickly becoming the gold standard in residential construction.
