One of my coworker asked about Switch since he was considering for his daughter. I told him new system is gonna come. He asked me when. I told him next year at some point. A big thing with the push for Mario IP awareness is due to the movie. Both diehard fans and casual audiences went to see the movie and might think that Mario can be found on PS, Xbox, or PC. I just bought a switch lite (first switch console) earlier this year, and still plan to buy an OLED early 2025, before getting switch successor eventually, so though I'm only one person, I'm sure there's others, so there's still a market, though it may be much smaller than years prior
@haroldasusus4684Ай бұрын
Out of curiosity, why buy an oled when you already have a lite? I would understand this decision if you want to wait till later in the switch 2 lifecycle, but it seems a bit wasteful to buy an oled switch, which only uses oled handheld just to replace it so quickly when you already have the lite.
@Frmhero2zeroАй бұрын
@ I go back and forth asking myself the same question, but ultimately I like to collect handhelds, but every handheld I collect, I play each one depending mood, I also like the variety factor, and each type has its own charm I guess. The lite feels the best to me but I feel some games would look better on bigger screen, or have the option to dock it so I can play with pro controller with more ease. As for the successor, I do plan to get it at launch or soon after, but who knows, it may be longer than that. Every console/handheld I've gotten has either been at the tail end of the generation, or several generation behind, so there is a chance I'll do the same with switch successor. Since I do play all my handhelds for different reasons and such, I wouldn't consider it a waste even if I picked up OLED and then next switch right after, however, I'm more inclined to look at my spending habits when it comes to games. I picked up the switch Lite in February, I have 98 switch games now, and I've only finished 3 or 4 😬 ..but I've been finding more time here and there so that all these great games don't ultimately become a waste, take care!

Now is the best time to buy a Switch since we know for sure that a Pro version isn't happening and the most perfected model of the console is already on the market with the OLED release. Switch 2 can wait while the early adopters beta test it and reveal all the potential issues the system might have over the coming years, the best time to buy any console is right at the end of its generation when you have access to a wide library of games and the most perfected model of the hardware.

I own two Switches and I can say that now in 2024, if I didn't actually own the console at all by now there's no way in hell I'd consider getting one here in 2024. In fact, 2020-2021 is probably the last year I would have even considered buying one, but even that is kind of pushing it. The lines start blurring by 2021 and COVID is the only reason the console was still appealing that year. From there, it only went downhill--and quickly. At this point, IMO Nintendo has really failed on multiple levels when it comes to introducing/announcing the Switch's successor, let alone releasing it.

What do you think is the possibility of a new cheaper version to be a home console only version? It won't need battery or screen, so i think it can be really cheap, even moreso than the lite and they might even bundle extra joycons instead
@lilisaurАй бұрын
Possibly. Nintendo historically drops as many extraneous features as possible to boil it down to a core experience at cheaper price. The Wii redesign late in its lifetime is a prime example - it dropped all the GameCube ports and backwards compatibility, which shaved some cost. Dropping screen, main unit battery, and docking ports on both sides (screen part and dock part) would remove a lot of expense from the unit. Not to mention secondary savings in the form of being a smaller, lighter weight unit that allows more units to be shipped to and displayed in stores at less cost. For cost purposes I think they'd keep it to just a single left and right Joycon and not include an extra pair. However, there's a return on investment factor to apply here as well. It costs money to redesign and manufacture new hardware. If such a device doesn't arrive until late next year, would it be worth it to go after a market of just one to two million potential sales a Switch 1 device might bring next holiday season? And since Nintendo's own expectations of about 6 million units this quarter is sky high (I suspect they'll land between 4-5) they may be sitting on a large number of existing model Switches well into next year and might desire to just sell them at heavy discount rather than design and build new hardware to reach the same price point (and potentially still being stuck with existing hardware they'd have to discount even more to effectively compete against themselves) Also, it might not be wise to have some of the factory production volume used up making new first generation Switch hardware when it could be better used making the successor hardware.
@davidtitanium22Ай бұрын
@@lilisaur right, i forgot about the overhead costs of redesigning everything. Considering all that, a version that requires a lot of major redesigns seems way more unlikely. A switch lite that can still dock seems good if they can use the same frame and just redesign the dock to be smaller
@lilisaurАй бұрын
@@davidtitanium22 I don't think the dock is a very expensive component. Its mostly just passthrough for power and AV, with an additional USB port for controller charging, and a thick chunk of plastic to hold the system upright. I don't think they could shave more than $10 off the cost of the dock, and with so little savings I doubt a redesign is really warranted. If they want to seriously cut the cost of the system to attract late adopters, I think it's got to be things cut out of the main component, and I'm not sure they can cut much more from the Lite's architecture without going to such a TV-only mode.
