Being in the $40’s, it’s just too much for what it is man. As much as I love this car, I can’t justify paying that for a STI. Especially with the gamble of their engines. Just because you’ve owned three and got lucky, I just can’t. I have a friend at work, completely bone stock except lowering springs....30K miles....rod knock. Insane. I just can’t. This is way too common with these cars. I love the STI’s, but wish they’d change the motor.

Cameron Scott I paid $41K everything out the door for the 2016 Hyperblue Series STI with 13K miles on it. The first owner had it leased. Funny coincidence, the original owner lived in the same city I live (Irvine, CA) cuz the navigation still had his home address on it. I don’t think I’ll ever sell my STI. Closer to 250 wheel, actually. The 305/310 are crank figures - these are not high output cars in stock form, although they become much more lively around 300 WHP. And it's an interesting comparison. A SRT Challenger is a properly-built modern muscle car - it looks good, sounds great, and is damned good at what it is designed to do. The STI is essentially a car you can take bone stock to a track that isn't a straight line and have an absolute blast driving it right at the limit, take it home driving some dirt roads in the process, and then put Hakkapeliittas on it and outperform just about every truck or SUV on the road in snow/ice with a basic understanding of driving stick in low-traction situations. You can do things in one that you can't do with the other and vice-versa. Comparing the two is kinda like trying to equate a C63 S with a Cayman just because they can be similarly-priced...no?

@@RaitisRides What about the issue with Ring Failure? Fixed in 2019?
@npaul41716 жыл бұрын
@@statusleds6317 Yet to be seen. The different pistons and tune may or may not alter susceptibility. That said, piston failures on more recent stock STIs are relatively rare, and failures on more recent stock STIs with competent users are even more rare (the interwebz makes it seem more common.) From what I've read, if modifying, it seems that the same general limitation should likely still apply as did to the pre-2019 models, where somewhere around the 400 AWHP area, you're one good knock event away from wiping out the pistons, and failures have occurred well-below 400 AWHP even with less-aggressive tunes. (Some owners have reported running in the 350-400 AWHP range on stock internals for an extended period using e85, which obviously adds quite a safety margin compared to pump gas in regard to the said issue.)

@@npaul4171 Awesome information I appreciate it. I ultimately made the decision to just buy another Evo X GSR. I cannot fathom purchasing a 30 thousand dollar car and simply knowing in the back of my mind there is a major weak point in the motor that I need to baby. If i'm going to spend 30k dollars on a sports car I want to be able to rip around on backroads and enjoy myself. That being said, the Evo MR has an extremely weak point in the transmission. The SST transmission has issues that I won't even get in to, but wanted to mention it in case someone reads this. Do your research kids. Choose the right car for you. Cheers.
