Alright, I felt like making some Vegan Chick’n so I thought I might as well answer a very common question that I know a bunch of us get. Now I never have to answer it again, I’ll just forward them this video and you can too!
But, honestly, I’ve never understood why this upsets people. This concept made sense to me 20 years before going vegan when I first saw “Vegan Orange Chicken” on a menu, was intrigued, ordered it and loved it. After that I started eating more of these mock meats. Some were awful and some were great (kinda like non-vegan food!) Also, why don’t people get mad about Peanut BUTTER, or Coconut MILK, or Cadbury EGGS, or HOT DOGS??

I think some of the comments regarding the naming are acting in good faith. This allows us to start a dialogue that will help get our message across. Trolls are gonna troll, but there are those who are genuinely curious. My own mother is a fantastic example! She asks why I have to add the vegan part before certain foods, I can then explain my reasons! Admittedly, she is acting in bad faith, but I will not give up yet.

@@skulshuta6460 Testing which ones of us who can't resist virtue signalling or are you genuinely wondering? (Lol, asking that like I actually care and not because I have a bad habit of feeding trolls for funsies 🤣 Anyways;) To most people the meat isn't the problem. It's what you have to do to get the meat that is. Veganism is about reducing the amount of suffering you cause, not just disliking eating meat. I won't consume some plant-based products either because they cause too much suffering to the people producing them. Luckily, most of the time I can throw money at the problem and buy "ethically produced" products (yeah, I know it's not always true people are a-holes lol). Meat isn't really possible to produce in a way that I and my fellow vegans feel is ethical enough to justify doing it though, outside of perhaps maybe growing it in a lab or something, so we do the next best thing and substitute it. You see, I was a butcher before I went vegan. I like the taste, smell and texture of meat and I do not mind killing and eating an animal I lovingly cared for from the day it was born if I need to, but I refuse to do it for pleasure or convenience. I'm blessed in that my need is never great enough to justify ending another life. Still like meat tho, but the plant-based substitutes keep my cravings at bay effortlessly. Does that answer your question?

Did you seriously ask why we name food?, like imagine having too call a ketchup: crushed and mixed tomatoes with salt, sugar and a verity of other spices” each time, the reason people don’t like calling vegan food the same as meat food is because it’s confusing. Imagine buying what you think is a hamburger patty, just too come home, cook it and realise it’s a vegetable patty. It said hamburger patty on the package but in small print vegan somewhere. The flavor is much lighter than other mushrooms and the texture becomes chewy, juicy and flaky like real chicken when seasoned and fried properly. I also discovered those same mushrooms make a great "scallop" and "shrimp" replacement 😋. Also if you ever get a chance try tomatoes sushi. Some recipes miss the mark but when you have one that hits it's nice to keep it stashed for lighter meals or meatless Mondays.

It's more of a shape and flavour thing. Chicken nuggets don't exactly exist in the nature either, it's just applying a similar process to create shapes and pleasant flavours. Instead of mashing a chicken and forming it into the breaded nugget shape while *flavouring it with plants like garlic, onion, bell peppers, cayenne and cumin,* we're just simplifying it by only mashing plant-based ingredients. Just because the process was popularized by meat industry doesn't give it the exclusive rights to the name. Same applies to sausages, patties, mince, etc. Using the chicken name in the title is also a consumer thing. It's funny how no one bat an eye when we called it coconut milk but for some reason almond and oat milk gets the oaf crowd triggered.

@grantmccoy6739

@@fijiman8868 it's not that hard to understand. Basically, it's meant to replace meat in the meal. It's not practical to say, textured vegetable protein, or whatever similar technical term. But yeah, it's arguing semantics to say, "but I thought vegans were opposed to eating meat", because it's not meat, it's just easier to call it by what it's supposed to be replacing. Like vegan sausage or vegan chicken. You could use the same for vegetarian foods. Like veggie burgers.

The same way many people cannot understand why one would be an Atheist. It is difficult for most to see beyond their own knowledge and life. I believe that sharing this information can allow us to start a conversation with those who will discuss in good faith. For many, moral consumption is an afterthought. After all, it is incredibly rare for someone to be a vegan from birth. Most of us consumed animal products before making the switch. For those who don't practise veganism, it is a strange concept. Simply because it goes against what is viewed as "normal"! Going against the grain is not always easy to understand from an outside perspective. It's when you have to deal with folk who feel the need to double down on animal consumption and belittle our personal choice... that's when we have issues. You ignore those people. They aren't worth the energy to engage with. Always approach someone as if they are genuinely curious, not just trolling. Inform without preaching. Educate without shaming. Nobody wants to deal with a sales person. I hope you have a lovely evening and keep fighting the good fight for our animal friends!

i don’t have any issues with vegans or vegetarians or anything, i think it’s wonderful, but being an environmental sustainability major, eating chicken doesn’t have much impact on the environment. if you look at charts or pictures online about agriculture and animal water consumption, chickens are usually at the bottom of the list. it actually takes more water to produce eggs than to raise a chicken which i think is kinda silly :3 unlike cows, which take soooooo much water to produce beef, cows produce massive amounts of greenhouse gasses, and their milk also has to be processed really well and have water and vitamin d added in order to be sold or else people may get sick and it won’t have any health benefits. also, this wasn’t intended to be any sort of retort, this is just me being a sustainability major and talking about things i learned that relate to something he said :)

@@Nazareth07. I respect the people that go vegan because I lnow it is not easy since a lot of places don't have options and if they do they are most of the times more expensive. But to me the answer is always moderately. I think starting by having one meatless day per week is a "fun" challenge more so if you like cooking and you can expand your knowledge. But yeah I also think people generally eat way to much meat, and moderating it is the best way for me. And obviously not wasting food, any kind is a good thing to do in general.

Agreed, but there's many different ways to prepare them, this is just more descriptive.

Basically bc IT IS. People know that nowadays 4 out of 5 times they probably couldn't tell the difference. So trolls are probably projecting a bit of guilt lol. Great video as always! 👍

That's definitely not true, they taste better now but I've had a plethora of "beyond" or substitute meat products and none of them taste like the actual meat.
