The best advice I read about position size goes along with what you say at 7:00 about being comfortable with how much your can lose. I think it was by Adam Grimes, who wrote “The Art and Science of Technical Analysis.” He basically said that, if you’re worried and sweating about how much you might lose, then your position size is too large.

I thought about this when I first started trading... I have never seen anyone talk about it. This really confirms that it is a real thing to focus on... It is the strategy , the % gain and so forth... Not the cash . If i win or loose as long as I make the right decisions I did the right thing.

I am new to trading but as one of the top 8% students in my college, I can tell you this guy is absolutely correct. How? well, everyone in the class usually runs after grades and they get nothing. I don't give a shit about them and instead try to learn whatever the institution has to offer so at the end of the day, I don't just have a paper that says "degree" but the knowledge in that field. And that automatically results in better grades.

I think one has to find the best trading style/strategy that fits the personality of the trader. I found it in swing trading and "set and forget" approach. I do my analysis once a week, I enter my orders with take profit and stop loss and I forget about it. I let the system work for me. I risk maximum 2% of my account and I keep the trade open until it hits TP or SL. Or on fridays I close before end of market hours so I do not hold positions over weekend. This suita me best. People tend to change their plans while trading and that causes losses. Just focus on % and follow your plan 100% of the time.

i love ur down to bottomline xplanations.......but i wud say difference btw 1000 1000000 is not just process...its lack of trust on their process and ability to cut losses and if required flip the trade on the other side.............took me 10 yrs.,.but damn the freedom and mental agility is priceless and profitable.......and learn to scale in

Most people like to withdraw their money to uplift their lifestyle, or make use of for other things. And when they come back to trade, they start with a small amount, if it goes up, they repeat the process. Its not always easy to see money and not use it right away because most of us think we might lose it so why not spend it. Its more challenging to increase money, just as much as its challenging to hold profits

yes guys, instead of profit which you made in mt4, set up points..or pips, which you see, and then hold the strategy. SL is psychological thing, mainly in smaller account, where you need more deep budget, and obvious pattience but I would preferer from my experience go for daily trading if you have budget 1-5K and speed up process faster. Significant results come on bigger accout with swing trading..later..also you can split strategy, have account for daytrading and swingtrading together..Moving SL agains our plan decision doesnt make sence, cause you brake rules - hold the plan, it can be still correction so no panic!!!

walking a plank on the floor versus walking a plank at the top of two buildings between them 1000$ vs 100.000$ at 1% risk management per trade at 1000$ you risk 10$ per trade, at 100.000$ you risk 1000$ per trade, which in practice, actually trading that is a huge problem to overcome or you got to 50000$ account, half way there , and you widraw to buy a car for 30000$, because you cant lose the brand new car in yoru driveway, but you can lose 30000 when they are in your trading account and you feel safe. etc etc

Its like two mindset GROWTH MINDSET VS FULFILING MINDSET Some traders have a growth mindset they want to grow their account/capital from a small account to 5-6digit figure capita and then make huge money! They focus of Process. While some traders they just trade to ful fill their materials hunger or they think trading as a means to get money for there expenses.They focus on Money. In my view both are correct in there own way.

Great video. It is really the mental aspect that the traders have to deal with more than the actual trade. I think what you meant is the system and not the process. Maybe most of the traders do not trust their system yet and that's why they cannot bet big yet. But then again as you mentioned, most traders lose $1000 and gain the same amount but seldom lose $100k and gain the same amount. It is really a mental aspect that most traders need to overcome.

I spreadbet using percentage loss/win rather than pounds loss/win so its all proportional to my account size. this helps with money management and keeps everything in perspective. I don't know if this will help anyone but I hope it does.

In my opinion this strategy is good for swing traders. Day trading you take profits always and repeat process. Also most successful intuitional traders don’t trade with their money. So it easy to emotionally detach yourself.
@Robobinks7 жыл бұрын
good video. He's right about the process. It's also scaling and planning that trade from beginning to end. Once one can annotate and calculate expected stock move. position size comes into play. Then finally ones ability to follow their own trading rules.

is there a definition when we can call someone a trader. You used in sentence "most traders" ...For me a trader is a person whos trading is profitable, not a person who is trading. Anyone can download a software , top up the account and strart making trades. where is the line ??? :)
@henrybarnard6445 жыл бұрын
The biggest issue I have with trading, particularly with stocks and sector ETFs, is watching what the overall market is doing. For instance, the last couple of months the overall market has been hitting new all-time highs on a regular basis, and this perception has made me take quick sales of trades that under normal circumstances I would have let run -- because I don't know when the market is going to break and take everything down with it. That 4 out of five stocks move with the market means that it has a tremendous impact on such trades, so one cannot ignore what the overall market is doing. I wish you would have a video on your strategy for mentally dealing with this issue.

I think the reason they don't make 100,000$ is because most are scalpers. Trading 5 to 10 pips.And they gotta be in & out in an instant. So making that big amount in a single trade will require quite the numbers of lot size. And then exiting the trade with that much big position in small window of time would be chaotic.

I have another add on to this issue. Most of us live hard work making money life’s. Input and energy we put in to our daily work is way larger than our income from salaries. Most of us don’t know what is large money. How many of us ever hold the stack of $\€\£10000 cash? Real cash? Maybe only 1-3% of us. When people start to day trade there is now mental scale inside of brain for large money. It simply does not exist. Brain has to learn that there is easy way to make money, with couple clicks of pc mouse. Whole education and labor system is pretty much socialist based, and it don’t learn to people how to scale up life. I think that is one of the problems with scaling.
