Most traders will face the problem of overtrading at some point in their trading careers. In this trading psychology session Brannigan shares a process for tackling the underlying problem that causes this behaviour.
The common solution for overtrading is to put a few rules in place that serve as a barrier from making this mistake. However, these barriers tend to yield short term results and do not lead to actually overcoming the underlying problem.
An alternative strategy is to implement a marginal gains based process. This type of approach breaks the problem down into its core elements. For example, Brannigan lists his root causes of overtrading to be a lack of preparation, impulsiveness, too much noise, and a lack of trust.
By enforcing a process that leads to a percentage of marginal gains on each element, the overall problem soon improves. It's also important to exercise trial and error with this approach, as each solution that you come up with be unique to you as a trader. Further, the wisdom you'll gain from a trial and error approach and looking into yourself will not only lead to gains in your trading, but will extend throughout your life.

The easiest thing for me is to make profit everyday and i mean everyday but the worst thing is that i just dont know when to stop trading until i give back all of the profit. I am an impulsive trader from your analysis.

made $1000 and gave it all back within one day, so mad at myself, but that won’t stop me. time to work on a strategy that stops me from picking up my phone all the time and wanting to be in the market 24/7

Gladly I have been able to figure out my weakness in trading, $18k in prop firm withdrawals between September 2023 and January 2024. I am in the process of stepping it up on a much bigger scale. I appreciate your content, it was a fundamental part of my trading success.

how do you solve the "lack of trust"? Further, let's say you trust that there will be at least 1 unique opportunity per day, but how do you trust that there you will be able to capture that opportunity that then out paces all the losing trades?

You just have to! Trust your self and the market. You need to have trust on the market. The market is your friend and once you start looking at it like that, trust me you will start trusting yourself more.
