Sammy's vocals here are the ones recorded that night in Tokyo. If you listen to other versions of this same performance or watch the videos of it, it's clear Sammy's vocals have been re-recorded. They sound much cleaner and pitch-perfect. He sounds good here but a little off and they were making a live recording to be released.

Don’t get it twisted - he’s no EVH ❤️ but yea - he can play
@Grymgar2 жыл бұрын
Not to be nitpicky but he'd probably be a Rhythm guitarist like Hetfield. He mostly just plays Rhythm in this song and EVHs keyboard takes over lead roles. There is that cool lick Sammy does during the keyboard solo but other than that his guitar playing is pretty run of the mill.
@chrisa46952 жыл бұрын
@@Grymgar There many videos of Sammy trading licks with EVH while in the band and others of him shredding as a solo artist. He prefers to concentrate on singing and always employs an excellent lead guitarist. I can’t sing or play guitar but I tried. It’s difficult to sing and play at the same time. That’s why most guitarist regardless of skill level play rhythm. It’s easier. Even those who play lead do so during the instrumental breaks: Lonesome Dave Prevert, Mark Farner, George Benson, B.B. King.

WOW, I remember going to get the VINYL of '5150', I listened to it so much, practiced my vocals with it playing so I could increase my range. It's sad that Eddie's gone, especially now with all the talk about a tribute to Eddie/ Van Halen tour. No matter what Alex and Dave feel, such a tribute wouldn't be complete without you Sammy, and Mike. Without both of you as part of the tour, what would be the point in going to watch it. All it would be would a be a collection of old disgruntled musicians who no longer have the fame they once had, and blame everything on everyone else taking no responsibility for any of what caused the breakup. Even though Gary Cherone stepped in after you Sammy, the fire was gone. I truly think that for Alex to be talking with anyone about such a reunion tribute show without talking with the rest of what Van Halen was, then all it is...is a cash grab for Alex and the others joining in. I'm surprised Joe would not be behind it only if both Mike and yourself were also part of the show.

Sammy, incredible vibes back then. 5150 had so many worthy songs!! Funny enough one of my favorites from that whole Era of you guys being together "the Inside". Was like getting to sit in while you guys learned to play and write together. The jokes the comraderie cemented you four , in my heart, and for the world. As another commenter suggested, it was meant to be. If we should ever cross paths, you are welcome to as many hugs as you might like. Be blessed, and pls give Mikey a hug from me when you see him next.

This was so great! I saw this tour in Saint Paul front row right in front of Mikey. I was 16. I camped out overnight to get the tickets. Okay I hope someone sees this. This is like THE Best recording of this...just because of this simple fact. In the professional wrestling business they have a term called a 'pop'. When the crowd all at once cheers for something usually an entrance when they hear the theme song fire up IE the Road Warriors. Now just think how big the tokyo dome is and for that two second mark from like 21 seconds to 23 every single person in that stadium is screaming at once so loud its overpowering every joule the band is pumping out. That's awesome. That's like the mantis shrimp punch of frequency...love it. Also considering around then sitting there politely smiling being quite was a super big show of respect that you were enjoying what you were watching....the boys broke them lol.

Back in the day Sammy whether he was with Montrose or on his own was one of my favorites, back in the day VH even with Dave was one of my favorites. But when Sammy joined VH, it was the absolute best of both worlds for me. I saw the age with Dave twice great show Dave just annoyed me though. So VH with Sammy probably eight times, and that’s probably a low number. Love them all. Love this version of the H the best. Great time of my life great time to be alive great music.

Whoa, here it comes That funny feeling again Winding me up inside Every time we touch Hey, I don't know Oh, tell me where to begin 'Cause I never, ever, felt so much Hey! And I can't recall Any love at all Oh, baby, this blows 'em all away It's got what it takes So, tell me why can't this be love? Straight from my heart Oh, tell me why can't this be love? I tell myself Hey, only fools rush in Only time will tell if we stand the test of time All I know You've got to run to win And I'll be damned if I'll get Hung up on the line, hey No, I can't recall Anything at all Ah, baby, this blows 'em all away Woo! It's got what it takes So, tell me why can't this be love? You want it straight from the heart, hey Tell me why can't this be love? Woo! It's got what it takes So, tell me why can't this be love? Straight from the heart, oh Tell me why can't this be love? Baby, why can't this be love? Got to know why can't this be love? I wanna know why can't this be love? Traduire en français

This is awesome. I think Eddie is a musical genius. Revolutionized the guitar. And a great keyboard player too. Very inspiring. The stuff with Sammy was uplifting. And the stuff with Dave was more edgy. Both great. Like two different bands for one. I like the song " Top Jimmy". I think it's a tribute to Hendrix. Very cool. Probably the two most ground breaking and important guitarist in modern rock history. In my opinion. But then there are so many others: Clapton, Page, Ace, Slash, Cobain, Jerry Cantrell, Curt Kirk Wood, Pearl jam, Daniel Johns. on and on But I think Hendrix and Eddie are the two.
