don't forget that it depends on where you are if you're located within the geographical boundaries of the eastern coast of the United states, your vision of it (if looking westwards) would be blocked by the appalachian mountains, and the towering and more vast rocky mountains, followed by the eastern end if the tibetan plateau, and the eastern end of the himalayas, though if you're looking eastwards from the perspective of an eaet-coaster, the obfuscation would be less great, though still present due to the Zagros mountain range, Afghanistan, and the Western end of the Himalayas. Not limited to the East coast, let's perhaps, theoretically shift our point of view from that of an east-coaster, to that of a pacific-coaster(?) I don't think that there's even any point of looking to the east in order to find the mount everest due to the vastness and height of the rocky mountains And looking west? as i've mentioned, the eastern end of the himalayas, as well as the tibetan plateau.

That the earth is smoother than a billiard ball is a common misconception. It would feel more like sandpaper. We say it’s smoother than a billiard ball because the regulation balls need to have less than 15 mm deep trenches wich upscaled to the earth would be similar, BUT most billiards are way smoother, down to the nanometer. Now I myself am not quite sure about this but it’s what I’ve heard from multiple sources so you can correct me in the comments!

Even when you use a level. It’s level to the center of the earth. You can do this experiment with a baseball and then a bigger ball like a soccer or basket ball. Grab a level and put it on the baseball, see how quick it fluctuates the bubble. Now put it on the bigger ball. It still fluctuates. But you need to move it around a bit more. Keep expanding the ball larger and larger till you get the earth and boom. It appears that it’s just flat.

Earth has a diameter of approx 12,000km. Space starts 100km above sea level. So if you scale it down 12,000km - 100km 1,200km - 10km 120km - 1km 12km - 100m 1.2km - 10m 120m - 1m 12m - 10cm 1.2m - 1cm So if you had a ball 1.2m in diameter space would officially start 10mm off the surface as that equates to 100km But We only realistically use 10km of atmosphere. That means for a ball 1.2m metres in diameter the usuable atmosphere would only be 1mm off the surface. What curvature do you think you would see?

You can see it from the top of a mountain or a plane if you look hard enough. I'd say its about a degree or half a degree over a 180° horizon, so not easy unless you deal with proper flats regularly

@TheNoiseySpectator

That brings up my favorite idea. Take them to the airport, let them buy a ticket on a plane going West as far away as they can book. Then, once they arrive there, tell them to buy another ticket on a plane going as far West as is available. Then, at that destination, buy another ticket going West even more! If the Earth is flat, you should _not_ be able to return to where you stared.

Everything in the Universe is tiny. Nothing is especially large, when you look at the universe as a whole. The lesson is to accept that being big or small doesn't make something important, otherwise nothing would be important, anywhere.

@@noahniskala That is their explanation, not saying it is sound. South is any direction directly away from the center of their map which is the north pole. West or East go around this center north pole either clockwise or counter-clockwise. Is a bit silly when you think about it since you can fly east to go east and not have to turn but on the flat earth map you would have to.
