Plus while everyone is eating their food , Marie is running around after the children when does Marie get to enjoy her meal in peace? I can't help noticing that there was no place for her at the table with Ray and Debra or an extra plate of food in the kitchen
@baronvonnembles
@baronvonnembles 24 күн бұрын
@@AlicesonHarvey That was my mom. She was always like a buzzing bee seeing after everyone else and waiting till everyone has food and was settled before she did. Its not like I didn't appreciate her self-lessness but at some point "self-lessness" starts to wander over the line into "Hey look at me I'm SELFLESS" and that is annoying. There is a happy medium but humans don't usually do "happy medium" that well.

To be fair to Lois, she does admit to not being the most tune in when it came to the traditional mother role. She showed her love for both of her daughters by taking them traveling around the world or to museums. As Debra pointed out in the end they still did lot together and Lois does admit in the end of the episode that she is glad that she is staying with them since it allows her to see how great of a mom Debra really is.

@@susivarga7303 Actually, Ray and Debra have done many things for each other in their own way. The relationship may not be perfect but it's still there. Ray have shown several times throughout the show to be comfortable in showing deep emotions or telling his wife some personal childhood stories that he doesn't usually do with others. He also got rid of his old childhood car just because it made Debra uncomfortable, reassures her that the babysitter wouldn't replaced the kids' love for her, got her job back after she got fired on her first day after initially being unsupported (which even Debra herself admits was very sweet even if she didn't takes the job back out of ashamed), set up an vow renewal on his own to makes up for taping over the wedding video, have shown times to care what Debra think of him, fought Frank to have Debra's initial house color for her, admits in front of all Robort's wedding guests that he still considers his wife to be the most prettiest girl in the world and wrote a touching letter in his newspaper column to makes up for forgetting to thanks Debra in his speech. Throughout the series Ray often takes the time to comes up with ton of creative or unusual nicknames for Debra. The fact that she barely bats her eyes over this show that she is used to this. He also is shown to occasionally still capable of making her laugh. Meanwhile throughout the entire series Debra puts up with her in laws' antics for the sake of her love for her husband. She also often serves as her husband's confidant, is supportive of Ray's job even if he have to travel often, worries if their marriage is strong enough after her parents divorces each other and have times tries to convinces Ray to not let his parents get under his skin. She is a good wife. It is also shown that both are boring people who are all right with simply watching tv or going to the occasional movies or dinner together. The series finale especially show that Debra would in fact be an complete wreck without Ray being with her and no doubt he would be the same with her. An minor sweet thing but while Ray and Debra may bickers often the one thing that they have always been in total agreement is that they are very careful in making sure that their kids don't get involves in the family arguments. It can be implies that on some level Ray is mindful enough to not want his kids to experiences the same thing he and Robert went through during their childhood. Also, we do need to remember that the show is showing their worst days because that what makes it interesting and funny. They had to have ton of good times together if the long-lived marriage is still going on strong underneath all the bickering. Ray do a good job in providing for his family and he is more involves with the kids than what is shown. Debra have made comments few times that she does in fact consider Ray to be a good husband and her biggest fear is losing him. He always comes home to her even if things are crazy around the house with the family. Lot of the times the fights are due to stress, annoyance or the heat of the moment. Their actual everyday relationship is probably more tame than what is shown. They get on each other nerves but there also nobody else than they rather be with. They're comfortable with each other and are able to get by the trials in the marriage. Isn't that what makes a marriage successful at the end of the day? I think it is worth mentioning that as much as Ray can be frustrating at times or lazy about household chores, he is no idiot. He know what is going on with the family situation and is kinda in a hard place. He knows that his parents are nuts and difficult people and he know that mom isn't doing much favors for his wife. That is the love of his life and the mother of their children. Yet at the same time he still cares for his parents deep down meaning banning them permanently is out of the question. The thing is Frank and Marie are going to do what they want to do and Ray can't do much about their behavior. He and Debra just have to deal with it for the better or the worse. What he does do is show Debra that he loves her in other ways that may be small but probably actually means lot to her. Debra do recognizes this which is why she never left. She knows she got a good if bit imperfect husband who she loves dearly. She is truly Ray's light in this crazy family because she stuck around. I also just realized that Ray himself actually was nowhere near as critical about Debra's job as a housewife as Marie was. Sure he may makes few jabs once in a while about her cooking (due to being spoiled rotted with perfection food while growing up) but outside of that he didn't seem to think she was even doing a bad job. He couldn't cares less if the house was a bit messy (which is honestly expected considering that they had three young kids running around the house. Especially in the early seasons) instead of spotless. Also, outside of questioning few choices or opinions, he also seem normally confident that Debra is a good mother. He knows that she got her hands full with the kids and his parents while he is at work. He doesn't really expects her to be exactly like Marie in the role. He even tried to tell Marie that the family was doing fine when she made it sounds like they were living in such a horrible way in "Win Lose or Draw" which she did not listen. He flat out said in "Wallpapers" that he doesn't feels that Marie will listen to him which is the actual main reason why he doesn't wastes his breath with her. Sure, he may enjoys the attention and coddling on some level but he does know how she is. Selective obliviousness. Marie sees what she want to see which what makes it so frustrating to the rest of the family. She is so wrapped up in the image of Ray always needing her and that she is the only one who capable of taking care of him that the very idea that Ray himself may not want her over all of the time is practically foreign to her.

Why is Debra always harping about needing help? In reality, a lot of stay at home mom's deal with multiple kids & a house to manage. Is it easy? OH HELL NO! But a mom hopefully learns how to cope. Of course it's a fictional show...based on reality! It shows that the husband offers not much help at all, and that's a reality in many homes & that's sad. But fictional Debra is lucky to have a husband that makes enough to support them & has family close by. I never had that & I coped. I like wine, by the way!🤣

Almost all MILs are intrusive. But at least Marie always cooks and cleans and takes care of her family. She doesn't ask for money from her sons, don't spend money, and doesn't act snobby. As she puts it, she's "mother-ish". I have a lot of respect for mothers like her. She has dedicated her whole life for her family. If Debra's parents are living nearby, I am very sure they are just as intrusive all the time too.

Is it really so terrible if Debra's mother would prefer to spend her holiday visiting a art gallery, instead of buying materials and marking curtains for her daughter's bedroom or would want to spend a few hours of peace and quiet in the evenings instead of having to run around after the grandkids all night I can certainly understand this and think. That Debra needs to learn a little empathy and finds a way to stop being so selfish here
