Called it! Alcaraz wins 2-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 and heads into his first Roland Garros final. What did you think of the match? 👇
@CarmineDiGiorgio-q7x5 ай бұрын
I am an italian Sinner ultrafan but I am not to high on him. I think you are quite right. Alcaraz is the favourite on this slow, high bouncing court. He will use the same tactics he used in Indian Wells: big top spin balls to send Sinner out of the court and then he will attack him with his big forehand or dropshot as soon has he gets a short ball. I hope Sinner has a strategy to avoid this happening again. What could play a little bit in Sinner's favour is if they play at night when the ball bounces a little less high. Another thing that puts Sinner in a bad position is the fact that he still hasn't recovered from a flu he got before RG. You can notice it clearly when he speaks. If you look at his face during the 3d set against Gasquet you can notice he was breathless. You can't afford beeing breathless against Carlitos, espcially on a ultraphisical match on clay and If you don't move well you're in big troubles. I fear this will be a factor after no longer than 1 and 1/2 hour . Yannik will have to try and keep rallies short as much as possible and try to be as impredictable as ever if he wants to have chances. Anyway it goes I hope to see a great show. When these to kids play on a court tennis reaches another dimension no matter who wins.

Tough to predict. Would not be so sure as you are. Alcaraz is a very complete tennis player and seems more fit. However, Sinner just became no. 1 because he is very hard to beat and learns a lot from faux pas. The clay court slightly favours Alcaraz but we are talking of two of the three best tennis players in the world. In particular, even if we say Alcaraz should have a slight edge on clay, the only time these two played on clay Sinner won 6-7 6-1 6-1 (Umag final in 2022). In the last match they played Alcaraz won in Indian Wells but this was not so significant. There was a very long interruption in this match due to the weather if I remember well. Following the domination of Sinner in the first set (6-1), Alcaraz reacted intelligently but was helped by an injury of Sinner that did not allow him to serve properly in the last set. The two previous matches, both on hard court, had been won by Sinner in Bejing and Miami. In Grand Slam tournaments, Sinner won at Wimbledon in 4 sets in 2022 and Alcaraz won at the US Open in 5 sets (cancelling a Sinner match point) in a period he was on fire. Sinner has grown since then. This year 2024 Alcaraz is 23-5 and Sinner 33-2. It must be kept in mind that both 2024 Sinner's losses were related to some sort of injury, and the second would probably not have happened without a blatant mistake by the linesmen and chair umpire. It is quite tricky to beat Sinner.

I don’t think Sinner will view this match as something to prove that he is the best player in the world. If anything, Alcaraz has more pressure to win in this match and tournament because it is on Clay.
@andieolivia5 ай бұрын
How does Alcaraz have more pressure to win on clay than Sinner? That would be like saying Jannik has more pressure on hard courts? It makes no sense. The surface is just the surface. It doesn’t add pressure to player it’s just a part of the game.
@karl16laker245 ай бұрын
@@andieolivia Two things: First, surface does matter especially if the talent gap between two great players are small. Surface helps the players execute some of their strategies. Alcaraz would prefer to be on slow/medium high bouncing court so he can execute his strategies a little better against Sinner. And it is the same thing with Sinner on fast low bouncing courts. They are both great players so they will need all the small advantages they can get to maximize their chances to win the match. Second: Before the tournament began, a lot of media/fans were picking Alcaraz to win RG because it his preferred surface. In addition, the same media/fans were saying that Clay is Sinner’s “worst” surface of his career. If you add both those things together, then Alcaraz should have more pressure than Sinner, in my opinion. Now, if this was Wimbledon and/or US Open, then I would have said that Sinner would have more pressure because the surface(s) are his preferred surfaces.
@andieolivia5 ай бұрын

Don't forget that Alcaraz "felt like a kid" playing Dimitrov in Miami that, in turn, was crashed by Sinner. Also, though Alcaraz is mote athletic, as a former skier Sinner slides better on clay. Given their physical condition, I would say that Sinner should prevail if the matches is not too long, while Alcaraz should be able to take advantage of the poor Sinner's training before this tournament if the match becomes a marathon.
