@@kolega427 I cannot tell whether this is a rhetorical question or not. The winner of the top semifinal would win the final with a walk over in the same fashion as Ruud did in the quarterfinal. This would be very anticlimactic, however, I don't see a better way.

One thing about tsitsipas is he needs better slice backhand. Backhand is great from offensive standpoint but wow his slice should be much better. He should be able to use knifing slice to get back to neutral. Too many times his slice sits up with little to no bite.

As a Greek honestly no. There hasn't been done much from Tsitsipas' side to bring hope for that to happen. But I was hoping for a better match from his side. He was all over the place both tennis wise and mentally. I was hoping he could get a set at least. Even when Alcatraz gave him opportunities to break him in the last game he totally messed up. I expected not the win of course, but definitely better About Grigor - Sinner didn't expect a win either but didn't watch the match. Hi Gill, great analysis as always. I was a little disappointed in stefanos tactics in this match as he largely played the same I don’t think Alcaraz rarely got out of second gear here. The most obvious tactic I think he should of deployed in this match up is the slice down the line to the Alcaraz forehand, if we think that stefanos is a better version of Dimitrov on clay at least he has had success against Alcaraz all be it on other surfaces because he utilises the slices effectively, Alcaraz can leak errors on his forehand and on clay a slice down the line would be a real game changer in this match up as the play would be Alcaraz hitting a high forehand cross court to stefanos forehand. He regularly went drop shot here which is far less margin for error. I think stefanos is uncomfortable with hitting an effective slice but he really needs to look at improving this shot if he ever wants to beat players that can attack his one handed so easily. What do you think?

Hey Gill, that book become my bible when returning to tennis after 18 years of illness. Learning to understand that one has at least two voices inside of them (voice 1 and voice 2) was a really helpful concept ; I even used that book in teaching French people how to speak English, helping them to get away from judgement (self and otherwise) and replace with observation.......In closing, I want to just add that when watching Carlos play, he seems on every level above players like Stephanos : physically, technique wise and yes, mentally....Certainly if Tsitsipas (and his Dad) were to read Timothy Gallwey's book might help, but even with that, I don't think that Stephanos will ever have that level of a Carlos Alcaraz.

Agree with you on the mental aspect for Tsitsipas in this match up. Even if you compare it to his head to head with Djokovic where he has lost many matches in a row, you can point to a tight match in Paris Bercy 2022, leading by a set and a break before rain in Rome 2021, two sets up in the Roland Garros final, two tiebreaks in the Australian Open final. He has hung with Djokovic fairly well despite a while without winning, he does well to compete with Alcaraz for a set in best of five.

Tsitsipas’s attitude and mental application throughout the Alcaraz match was really disappointing especially that 2nd set. He seemed like a beaten man mentally and was making uncharacteristic errors off the forehand in attacking positions. He started complaining about Alacaraz’s grunting to the umpire which showed that Carlitos was in his head. There are times when a player may have your number but that doesn’t mean you have to mentally checkout. I would expect more maturity from Stef at this stage of his career and it really shows the gap between these new generation (Sinner, Alcaraz) vs the likes of Stef and Zverev

If the root cause is the heavy spin and high bounce to Steph backhand, do you think he'd fair better against Alcaraz on a faster court where he gets a lower bounce, and is also able to penetrate with his serve (easier points), and serve and volley more? Too bad these matches were so one-sided. In Grigor's defence, i think the windy conditions weren't helping him and contributed to some of those forehand errors. As for Stefanos, he needs to calm down and be more rational against Carlos (the arguments with his box didn't help putting him in the right mindset) but i still think he's a terrible matchup for him.

I feel like grigor underperformed and sinner had a lot more to give that he didn't end up needing to show. The scoreline didn't surprise me...but the watch ability and quality of the points disappointed me. Dimitrov was so indecisive on his forehand and scared to take his signature full swings and slaps on the run on his forehand. And his slice was not reliable on the backhand side. If dimitrov is having an erratic day with his drive backhand, then that's normal and fine. But his slice and his forehand have been so reliable this year. He really had a bad performance today. *Edit* I should clarify, I don't feel that dimitrov was missing due to the incoming ball being of higher quality. I feel like he was tactically indecisive about whether or not he was willing to take risks to assert his offense, and that indecisiveness gave him the the worst of both worlds. All his shots were risky but not high quality. You could see his racket head speed was much lower this match compared to previous matches. And I'm not talking about mph, I'm talking rpm's. Dimitrov wasn't swinging, even in a safe way.

I just finished watching the entire match on my PVR. This was one of the worst matches I’ve seen in a while. Stef just seemed so defeated and getting angry over Carlos extended grunt? Like what was that? Carlos grunts the same against everyone in every match he plays. How it was an extended grunt today I’ll never know?

@@andieoliviathen watch again. The moment Tsitsi complained, that was after the break, that specific grunt was A LOT extended and exagerated.

@@andieolivia also, the fact Alcaraz grunt like this with everyone doesnt make it good. Sonego (and many others) was hated and trashtalked because of his late grunting, but if Alcaraz does it then uts ok because he is the good guy, right ?

@@andieoliviaTbf I do think Alcaraz does a few too many extended grunts as much as I like him. But Tsitsipas only complained when he was down 5-1 in the tiebreak whereas Alcaraz always does it, so he was obviously in his head. That’s why Alcaraz responded by chuckling at Stef’s complaint. Alcaraz knows he owns Stef at this point. At least Stef apologized to him at the net though

Talking about young players aiming to get better - Alcaraz is still the youngest player in the top 30.

Stef is simply not an elite player, He’s a great tennis player for sure but not in the Alcaraz, sinner spectrum and will never be. Good that he himself understands this. I think you expect too much from him Gill.

Stef lost as soon as MrHumble NiceGuy trashtalked him. Also Carlos had played all his matches on PC while Stef had played all his on SL. Not that I think this made a lot of difference.

Too much credit for Carlos, who barely won the second set, disrespected Stef with some grunting and hindrances, and somehow got to Semis again... However, Sinner will beat him in straights, after all, he is the number 1 in the world and the superior player.

I think there's something Noone is saying that the fact that the grounds wasn't swept is why Djokovic got hurt. This changes thing the total landscape if the top ten. Zverev beat Sinner and Alcaraz in slams at their respected surface. He now has to play a Ruud who went from Rd16 to a semis. Thats not right. I want to see a good match not a beat down on a great player who's tired from a younger more rested higher ranked guy who wi be higher ranked after and probably never give that up. This happened in 22 when Zverev got injured at #2 he let in the young guns to take the top. They never gave it back. Now Ruud will be the 3rd that won't ever give it back. By default! We saw Zverev in Australia he would have gotten to the finals if he didn't wear out. if each match was best of 3 then he would have been there. I worry if he will ever get a slam. thus to me was his chance. it's bad enough you get Nadal a 250 rank in rd1. He has been playing in the cold too he's best during the day where Sinner has been and Alcaraz has been. He said time again I like the ball bounce higher and faster hotter. he's too talented to miss out on Winning a slam and I feel like he's thinking are you kidding I'm facing a guy possibly who had 4 full days rest. He still has to get through DeMinaur. if he does I'm not sure how he can beat around rested. I just wantedcthe guys in their late 20s to won a slam Zverev Fritz Hurkatz Paul Rublev we see how hard it is for Meddy to get a second. Plus we love Nole it's Bullsh#$
