I feel like compared to any other teams that available Williams is a better choice, i just feel like the culture in Alpine is somewhat "bad", especially looking at the history involving Piastri and Fernando choosing other team, I feel like Williams is a better choice knowing that Albon been doing great and also if the rumors were true that Newey might join Williams would be a big bonus.

Williams doesn't has neither the infrastructures and the conditions to deliver race winning, or even constant podium finishing cars, like none. With the amount of young talents available, even if he trounces Albon (which is possible), i don't see any top team going for an over 30yo driver.

Correct choice, for all the reasons you mention. Not much to add other than the comment to help the algorithms. Albon - Sainz is a pretty sick mid-tier lineup. Both guys very technical minded. I'd guess the chances of them being a championship team are unlikely, but if they can eventually fight for the odd podium it would be worth it and put either driver in a position to grab a top team spot as a 2nd driver in a few years.

I am not sure if this is good or bad. Williams has improved a lot, but Audi has a lot of experience in motorsports and hybrid engines as well. Binotto joining Audi is not a bad thing, either. He is a great engineer. Audi's investments are higher as well. whereas Williams has more F1 experience and is more organized as of now. Not to forget the Merc engine. As you mentioned, Audi is a huge gamble. But I assumed Audi would have a better catch-up game even if they have a bad car. it's a 50/50. At least, it's not Alpine :)

Although he might languish next year, smart move by Sainz. As longs as DC coughs up the money and JV can continue to develop a top caliber staff, facilities, processes, etc., Sainz will be seen as someone who helped bring a beloved team back to prominence (while reaping the benefits of course). If it all goes tits up, he's under the Merc umbrella and can move again.

Thanks for sharing. My initial impression is that this is a bad move for both parties. Saintz is better than what Williams can offer. Williams should be pulling the plug on Sargeant TODAY. This announcement shows Williams has written off this season demonstrating a continued decision making lack of direction and competence. Williams should be taking the best available rookie right now or make a deal with Mercedes to give Antonelli a jump start and a look at his potential in F1. What is left for Saintz' career after being beaten by Albon for two years at the back of the field? What front running team would want him after that? The only path might be to replace Verstappen if he leaves Red Bull.

Have to hold you at 2:40 as this is totally untrue. While the engine was a factor, McLaren were not the only team using turbocharged engines, with Ferrari also employing a very potent turbocharged engine, and weren’t even the only team using the Honda engine. Lotus also used the turbocharged Honda V6. Also, the limits to the boost pressure brought the NA cars back into play. Look at the Brabham BT55, putting out 1300HP in quali trim and having 2 points to its name. The MP4/4 was a downforce MONSTER for its time, that’s what made it on pace the most dominant F1 car in history. Also Red Bull has significant aerodynamic problems from 2015-2020, Mercedes and usually Ferrari just did a better job than Newey and RBR.

3:50 if Sainz wants to go for a championship, signing for Williams doesn't make much sense. I think he decided to take a safe bet and that is perfectly fine. Yes, Audi has a lot of question marks but a works team will always have more potential, albeit with higher risks of not living up to potential and the negative press and pressures that come with it. Williams will always get away with any excuses as long as Vowles is there, the British press seems to lap up everything he says.

Have to entirely disagree about Senna/Prost in 88 at McLaren winning simply because they had the Honda motor. Whilst the Honda engine was the best turbo unit overall, Lotus also had the same motor- but their chassis was poor in comparison. So much so that despite the engine they were often down amongst the atmo cars. Nowadays with the convergence of regs nobody ever has a big advantage

My take is that this is just a "placeholder move". James has already agreed that Sainz can dump Williams if Either RedBull or Mercedes decides to Empoy Him. We know already that Antonelli is headed for that Williams seat, its just a matter if RedBull has a vacancy, or even 2 vacancies. Its like 3 dimensional chess.... If Max does not accept the seat at Mercedes, Carlos gets it while Antoelli spends AT LEAST a year at Williams. If Max DOES take a seat at Mercedes, then Carlos gets a seat at RedBull. Everyone is lined up "in the que" except Tsunoda. If Honda demands that Lance gets removed, then You know where Tsunoda will go. Its actually brilliant strategy by Mercedes, Sainz, RedBull and Honda synergystically. But Hey, thats just My own opinion. You asked! HaHa! Unfortunately Carlos didn’t have many options. People commenting that he will never win again may be right but you can’t win or get podiums watching the race from the couch. Sainz definitely still belongs in F1. I’m not a fan per se, but he’s a really good, solid driver. Williams should be happy. As an American, it was sad to see Logan go, but he just wasn’t cutting it. Albon made him look bad 95% of the time. He got his shot. Didn’t work out. He’s still a decent driver, but not for F1.
