I converted in college. First time I went to Mass, during the Consecration when the priest raised the Body of Christ and God said to me “You’re home.” And that was it for me. I love it that George had a similar experience. We all do.

@peaceandjoy2568 That’s great but I'd like to see him make his case from scripture, not Catholic material, and history. Another thing, would be for him to look at the Catholic Church from the outside in, rather than the inside out, he's seen the issue's the Catholic Church has starting from its foundation, which doesn't come from Jesus or Peter. If it was about intelligence, Satan wouldn't have rebelled against God.

I have a big problem with the title and it made me question what the purpose of the podcast truly is. A title such as this sows seeds of division among Christ's believers. And that is the antithesis of being a Christian. The denomination doesn't matter. What matters is are you serving the one true living God in a way that brings you closest to Him. That is it. Not arguing about what one church does compared to another.

I was a single mother and a teen mom. I got back into my faith after the hardship of being a single mother got to me. So I prayed all the time asking for a good partner. When my ex at the time would get together after church I would always feel this need to run away. To break up with my ex as soon as possible. I would get this gut feeling of just disgust. But it would be after church that I felt that need. When my met my now husband I felt the opposite. I felt a pull. We have been together for 13 years and we are still going strong. I am catholic and I would pray to Virgin Mary. I would ask her “please as a mother and once woman please guide to get the right partner for me and my son”. My husband is amazing and a great stepfather. My second miracle was after 10 years of not getting pregnant at all. 2 miscarriages and just crazy hormonal challenges. My grandmother would pray for me to st Martin of Porres. He is the saint of the poor but also of healing. His month is in November. And in November I conceived my youngest son who is 2. It was a miracle and a massive blessing.

I wonder how Christ is honored when his followers sit around claiming their superiority over each other. It rings of petty sectarianism. Instead of honoring each other as brothers and sisters in Christ, we point out each others’ failings and deficiencies as if we have none of our own. This sounds like a bunch of second graders.

@Paul Smallwood Paul, Jesus did not come to preach a free-for-all "Protestant" ideology, created out of thin air by the man named Luther. Our Lord specifically preached the opposite: Unity. Which you and millions of protestants ignore. Remember what our Lord said: JOHN 17:21-23 21. May they all BE ONE, just as, Father, you are in me and I am in you, so that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe it was you who sent me. 22. I have given them the glory you gave to me, that they may BE ONE as WE ARE ONE. 23. With me in them and you in me, may they be so perfected in UNITY that the world will recognise that it was you who sent me and that you have loved them as you have loved me. The Apostle Paul repeats the same precept in: ▪︎EPHESIANS 4:3-6 3. Striving to preserve the UNITY of the spirit through the bond of peace: 4. One Body and One Spirit, as you were also called to the One hope of your call 5. One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism 6. One God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. That is why Paul affirms: ▪︎1 TIMOTHY 3:15 15 if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is THE CHURCH of the living God, THE PILLAR and FOUNDATION OF THE TRUTH. May God bless your discernment.

@@paulsmallwood1484 Paul, The difference is, the protestantism you practice is a human creation opposed to the Will of Jesus who built just one Church on Peter. The undeniable truth is our Lord gave permission to no one to make personal churches, like your sect, based on the false doctrine of "Sola Scriptura". Why ignore the will of God? Don't you know division is of the Devil and Unity is of God? Paul, you are missing the essential ingredient that gives life, and most likely have no idea of what that means due to your self-imposed ignorance and rejection of truth. May God bless your discernment.

@@paulsmallwood1484 Christ only created one Church in Matt16, that Church is still here. It's the only one with a documented unbroken line linking it directly to Matt16. Christians should want to belong to His Church. From conception the Church was an OFFICIAL sect within Judaism. When you read Acts 1 and if you are familiar with Halakhah Law you will immediately notice that the Church is a legal entity WITHIN Judaism. There are 3 requirements which are met. Firstly, notice that there are 120 members in this synagogue. Why is this important? It is the exact number of persons in the Halakhah regulations to form a full fledged synagogue. Secondly next according to Halakhah regulations there must be a "beit din" (Hebrew court) formed. We see that there is a beit din and it draws lots and Matthias a disciple is chosen to take over Judas bishopric (episkopen). The first example of Apostolic Succession. So two of the three requirements are met. The third requirement is that there must be a NASI (prince/temporal) and an AB (father/spiritual) appointed. Curiously Peter is filling both these positions in this beit din. Why? In 190 BC the Kohan Gadol (jewish high priest office) fell into apostasy and beit din gadol cast a vote of no confidence splitting the two offices of the kohan gadol into the "nasi" and the "ab" within the Beit Din Gadol. Fast forward to Matt16, in this new Beit Din Gadol (70 disciples) Christ has placed His confidence in Peter (the first AB/father/pope meaning papa) by presenting him the Keys to the temple and bringing the two offices back together the way it originally was. The pope has both temporal and spiritual powers. Peter is the NASI prince of the apostles and the AB/pope (Pope meaning papa - meaning father) as you see even today the pope as Peters documented unbroken apostolic successor is both ‘nasi’ and the ‘ab’ in Catholicism. Christ appointed Peter as His steward with the keys as per Isaiah 22 vs 19-24 and Matt16. Peter is First amongst equals. In the Davidic kingdoms there was always an al-bayith (steward), that is Peters role. Christ also renames Peter (the only Apostle renamed) as Abraham and Jacob were renamed by God in preparation for their specific role in salvation history. Peter's successors (Popes) are first amongst equals ie bishops who make up the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. First book of Kings lists all the Kings and it always has the royal steward/vizier listed next to the King as well because in the absence of the King he was in charge of the Kingdom. The steward is given the sash/robes/keys to the temple because the role is also a priestly role. The steward would wear the keys around his neck so the citizens of the davidic kingdoms knew who he was. (Rashi/Jewish sage writes a commentary on the priestly role of the steward/vizier and the Keys are the keys of the temple and government). Jesus presents the keys to Peter (Pope/ab) and appoints him/his successors as His royal steward to care for HIs flock until His return. The 120 is the Knesset HaGadolah which was supposed to be restored in the Olam Haba. Judaism and Catholicism was born on Shavuot/Pentecost.

The difference is what? You worship Jesus Christ and he worships the Antichrist (in the place of Christ)? Blasphemous titles claimed for the pope have been embellished and enlarged over the centuries. But a few of these boastful claims appear in an ecclesiastical (Roman Catholic) dictionary, by Lucius Ferraris, entitled _Prompta Bibliotheca Canonica,_ Vol. VI, pgs. 438, 442, article "Pope." _The Catholic Encyclopedia,_ 1913 edition, Vol. VI, p. 48, speaks of this book as "a veritable encyclopedia of religious knowledge," and "a precious mine of information." "The pope is of so great dignity and so exalted that he is not a mere man, but as it were God, and the vicar of God." "The pope is of such lofty and supreme dignity that, properly speaking, he has not been established in any rank of dignity, but rather has been placed upon the very summit of all ranks of dignities. . . ." "He is likewise the divine monarch and supreme emperor and king of kings." "Hence the pope is crowned with a triple crown, as king of heaven and of earth and of the lower regions." "So that if it were possible that the angels might err in the faith, or might think contrary to the faith, they could be judged and excommunicated by the pope." "The pope is as it were God on earth, sole sovereign of the faithful of Christ, chief king of kings, having plenitude of power, to whom has been entrusted by the omnipotent God direction not only of the earthly but also of the heavenly kingdom." "The pope can modify divine law, since his power is not of man but of God." What therefore, can you make of me but God?" -Pope Nicholas, quoted in _Antichrist_ by Ian Paisley, pg. 54. The pope calls himself God, i.e., "Lord God the pope," "another God on earth." "We hold upon this earth the place of God Almighty," Pope Leo XIII said in an _Encyclical Letter,_ June 20, 1894. "The Pope is not only the representative of Jesus Christ, but he is Jesus Christ Himself, hidden under veil of flesh," the _Catholic National_ said in July 1895. Christianity teaches that the pope is the Antichrist. The proud pontiff's official title is Vicar of Christ, meaning "in the place of Christ." Vicar of Christ translated into Greek is Antichristos, in English Antichrist, also meaning "in the place of Christ." Vicar of Christ and Antichrist are the exact same word in two different languages. Vicar of Christ in Latin is Vicarius Filii Dei, meaning Vicar of the Son of God, or Vicar of Christ. VICARIVS FILII DEI. Add up the 11 Roman numerals and you get 666. "Good Catholic church"? So "Sacred Inquisition" and worshipping the Antichrist (in the place of Christ) is now considered good?? Blasphemous titles claimed for the pope have been embellished and enlarged over the centuries. But a few of these boastful claims appear in an ecclesiastical (Roman Catholic) dictionary, by Lucius Ferraris, entitled _Prompta Bibliotheca Canonica,_ Vol. VI, pgs. 438, 442, article "Pope." _The Catholic Encyclopedia,_ 1913 edition, Vol. VI, p. 48, speaks of this book as "a veritable encyclopedia of religious knowledge," and "a precious mine of information." "The pope is of so great dignity and so exalted that he is not a mere man, but as it were God, and the vicar of God." "The pope is of such lofty and supreme dignity that, properly speaking, he has not been established in any rank of dignity, but rather has been placed upon the very summit of all ranks of dignities. . . ." "He is likewise the divine monarch and supreme emperor and king of kings." "Hence the pope is crowned with a triple crown, as king of heaven and of earth and of the lower regions." "So that if it were possible that the angels might err in the faith, or might think contrary to the faith, they could be judged and excommunicated by the pope." "The pope is as it were God on earth, sole sovereign of the faithful of Christ, chief king of kings, having plenitude of power, to whom has been entrusted by the omnipotent God direction not only of the earthly but also of the heavenly kingdom." Oh cmon, this is silly, Roman Catholicism cannot be right. One basic but egregious argument against it is the celibacy requirement for priests, which completely contradicts what Paul says to Timothy and Titus. I very much respect Candance, I absolutely love her and her content, but I have to say that George seems pretty lost in his faith journey. He is missing the point and is confused trying to find the 'right religion' instead of fixing his eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith (Hebrews 12:2). My advice, pray to the Holy Spirit and he will guide you to the truth. John 14

While I understand where you are coming from, we have no idea how the Holy Spirit is working through both George and Candace. He clearly said he was still praying about and searching theologically where he stood when he married Candace. Now he’s fully devout and how wonderful that Candace is happy to raise her children Catholic and also she has been vocal about studying catholicism in hopes to maybe convert one day. Everyone’s conversion story looks different, and it’s in these instances where we need to give people grace, rejoice in his conversion, and also pray for both George and Candace that the holy spirit continues to lead them to the faith fully. I also hate the blatant disregard for Protestants as if they have no chance. My Father married my mother who was Protestant and she has since converted and both my brother and I have been devout Catholic’s our whole life. That was Gods plan for my family, I’m sure He has written similar stories for many other couples :)

I don't understand how you can say this when the catholic church altered the second commandment to fit their own desires. “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them nor serve them” Even the pope has his little statues he goes around with. Paganism crept into the church when Constantine legalized Christianity and it became the state religion. The pope's hat started out with the Babylon mystery religions and used to be used in the service of Dagon, the shape of it was to represent the mouth of the fish god Dagon. I love my brothers in the Lord but the truth should be told.

In Exodus, God specifically told the Israelites to make Cherubim carvings in the Ark of the Covenant. So clearly carving and making TG images is ok. (I would argue it is good, but we’ll just leave it at permissible. It is NOT ok to worship those items (or the things they represent.) The Catholic Church does not teach that it’s ok to worship those images. The Church makes it clear that idolatry is wrong and bases that teaching on the 1st commandment. The original manuscripts did not have numbered commandments at all. Bible scribes numbered them guided by the Holy Spirit. What you believe is the “second commandment “ is actually the first: Thou shalt have no other gods before me. The sentence about graven images clarifies the 1st commandment, rather than starting a new one. Unless God was wrong about the Cherubs in the Ark of the Covenant (and on the temple curtains and other places.) Also, the Jewish culture did not invent temples, priests, or bloody sacrifice. Those things existed prior to God claiming the Hebrews as His own. Those things were pagan. Straight up pagan. But God redeemed those things when made the Hebrews His own. He commanded those things to be sanctified for worship for Him alone. So if you want to get away from all pagan influence, you’re going to need to find a new world.

Praying to Mary and other dead saints is not biblical and praying to anyone other than God is idolatry. To bow down to a statue or painting and pray to it is evil and it is forbidden in Scripture. Nowhere does it say that people in Heaven will pray for people on earth. Alive Christians on earth can pray for you, but dead people will not pray to God for you and you can’t find any passage to justify this. Why pray to the dead when you can pray to God? It’s a terrible and evil thing to pray to Mary, but Catholics even worship Mary more than they do Jesus.

Council of Trent, 19th ecumenical council of the Roman Catholic Church, held in three parts from 1545 to 1563. This council states that anyone who does not follow the tenants of the Roman Catholic Church, is anathema, which is a formal curse by a pope or a council of the Church, excommunicating a person or denouncing a doctrine. ( Let them be damned. ) It goes on to declare many more anathemas, one of which is if anyone believes that a person is saved by faith through grace, apart from works, they are anathema. The Council of Trent was the Roman Catholic Church’s response to the Reformation. It denounced all of the beliefs that were professed by the Reformation, and one by one called them each anathema, therefore anyone’s beliefs, in the precepts declared by the Reformation, are anathema, according to the Council of Trent. If your beliefs are cursed, then they are false, in the eyes of the Catholic Church. To my knowledge, the Roman Catholic Church continues to uphold the pronouncements of The Council of Trent. If this is true, then, according to the Roman Catholic Church, anyone believing in any faith and practice of faith, other than the Roman Catholic Church’s faith and practices, is damned. Ephesians 2: 8-9 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.

That’s the classic watered down Protestant argument against anything Catholic. It simplifies the faith, and does a great disservice to all how follow that view. “It’s all about Jesus, so why do you honor Mary, pray to the saints, collect relics, etc”. Yet ironically, you still don’t believe that bread and wine become the sacred body and blood of Jesus Christ. It’s misguided to think that in order to give honor to one thing (e.g. the saints) you need to take some honor away from Jesus.

Catholicism is better than Protestantism because: 1. You get to pray to statues 2. You believe things about Mary not in the Bible. 3. Superstition is encouraged 4. You get to use ancient pagan prayer beads. 5. You get to eat your god every Sunday and he stays with you about 2 minutes. 6. You have the hope of being made a saint by the church instead of your faith in Jesus. 7. You are baptized, confirmed and given the last rites to be sure you might get to heaven but first you have to spend time in purgatory where it isn't so nice. 8. You get to pray to and for dead people. 9. You pray to Mary instead of Jesus, your saviour. 10. You get to tell your priests sins he's already committed.

How is praying through Mary a sign of "maturity" but praying through the only mediator between God and man, the Lord Jesus, a "baby stuff"? Great lad and nice conversation but this is not biblically compelling. The robust reformed theology still has a better systematic theology than catholicism. Per Matt's logic, he should have settled with eastern orthodox instead.

I believe the claim was that praying without Mary shows a form of 'docetism' wherein Christ's humanity is underplayed; this is a problem in some Protestant circles, which is precisely what they are talking about in this clip. A well formed Mariology helps inform and pray I. A properly Christological Manner. The Eastern Orthodox actually know this quite well; every ektenia during Liturgy includes a prayer for the intercession of the Theotokos, our Mother. To suggest that praying through Mary is not Orthodox is simply wrong. Matt would actually know this quite well as a Byzantine Catholic; the Orthodox are not in significant disagreement with Catholics on this point a out Mary and her importance, even with Latin Catholics.

Virtually no argumentation, just a vibe of elitism and "I went to Oxford and I require the highest of a high church experience". He seems to hint at the old chestnut of "Where was your church before the reformation?", which has the quick and easy answer of "where was your face before you washed it". Luther did not see himself as starting the "real" church 1500 years after Jesus. He basically considered himself a Catholic who wanted to get rid of the erroneous elements which had crept in. Farmer doesn't seem like he's engaged with the higher-tier thinkers of protestantism, his arguments seem strawmannish.

Their dismissal of Anglicanism/Protestantism through glib remarks about nationalism and imperial decline, shows a deep (and frankly, inexcusable) lack of awareness for the fundamental reasons the English Church/the Reformation occured.. The fact that they and most Catholics have no clue who John Henry Newman was before his conversion or what the Tractarian movement was just demonstrates how uninformed and reductionistic Romanist views of Church History really are. No nuance granted; "we're The Church, everyone else heretic/schismatic lmao" And just to set the record straight, Protestantism in general and Anglicanism in particular isn't declining whatsoever, in fact it's growing exponentially in the Global South. The only major decline is in Europe and North America (where Catholicism is facing the same trends). But what should we expect, Catholic Apologists would be out of a job if they weren't allowed to obfuscate.

That’s because there is no difference between Protestant/ Catholic justification. @andrej1659

@@RosieJ7223 i understand that in Catholicism there is an "initial" justification where the sinner is justified by grace apart from any works good or bad from his past. but you are then expected to earn the keeping of your salvation throughout your life by your performance. the reformed view differs in that the criteria for you to be saved at the start is the same criteria for you to be saved at any point in your life, namely, a sinner having Christs righteousness imputed unto him by grace. Romans 4:4-5 "Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness." by accrediting any of your efforts towards your justification, you are making God your debtor.. Romans 11:6 "And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work." however in the catholic church it seems justification requires a mixture of grace and works... James 2:10 "For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all." therefore if you are obeying Gods commands or the church's commands 99.9%, that is equivalent in Gods eyes as obeying 0% in terms of using that to maintain your justification.

They all believe exactly what Jesus says in John 6:51-56: “I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world”. The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. Marian dogmas like the Immaculate Conception of Mary existed since the first century, and we can see this through the apostle Saint Andrew, the disciples of this apostle wrote a document known today as "letter to the fathers of Achaia" this document records the dialogue of Saint Andrew with the Aegean Proconsul, and in it Saint Andrew states that Mary is immaculate: "The first man, through the transgression of the tree, brought death. And it was necessary for the human race that, through the passion on the cross, the death that came into the world, should be taken away. And because the first man was formed from the *Immaculate earth* ... it was necessary that from an *Immaculate Virgin* the perfect man, the Son of God, should be born, to repair the eternal life that men lost through Adam, and by the wood of the cross to exclude the wood of concupiscence; hanging on the cross with *Immaculate* hands outstretched" (- Saint Andrew, Letter to the Fathers of Achaia, Greek Patrology, volume II, page 1226) Note the words in bold ("Immaculate") the Greek word that was translated to Immaculate is ámomos (άμωμος) this Greek word is used whenever the word Immaculate is used in the text, and as we can see, this text states that 1- The earth used to form Adam was immaculate 2- Mary is an immaculate virgin 3- Jesus hands outstretched on the cross are immaculate In these 3 situations the same Greek word said earlier was used proving that Mary is immaculate, just as Jesus was. The strength of this quote is the fact that it was not some average Catholic theologian who wrote this, but the apostle of the Lord Saint Andrew himself, brother of Peter, who was with Jesus during his lifetime and who said this in the first century

Mary is human she is not God, she is the mother of Jesus and as we are told in Luke’s Gospel “All generations will call me blessed”, we ask her to pray for us because Catholics believe all those in heaven are alive in Christ and as a much a part of the Church as us here on earth, so we ask those in heaven “The cloud of witnesses” to pray for us, just as we ask our family, friends and congregation to pray for us. Christians cannot love Mary more than Jesus does.

@@viviennedunbar3374 You do pray in her name. Hail Mary is calling on her name to do something such as for her to pray for you at the hour of your death.

Catholics pray to Mary asking for intercessions, a intercessions is the same that ask someone to pray for you, like a man asking for his friend to pray for him If John 16,23-24 proofs that we aren't allow to pray to Mary, so the same goes for ask someone for pray to me, but say that anyone can't pray por me based on Gospel of John is an absurd, therefore, is also an absurd that we can't pray to Mary based on Gospel of John

@@Miguel_77 When you pray to Mary you are praying to the dead. Christ nor His apostles ever taught anyone to pray to dead.

I grew up Protestant. Can anyone tell me why Catholics believe you must be baptized to be saved? If you have to do something of your own volition to be saved, doesn’t that mean that the power of salvation is not all laid at the feet of Jesus. This has what has turned me off to Catholic teachings in the past. Just wondering what y’all genuinely think

Check out John 3:5 and the continuing verses after. It becomes very clear. I have experience as a Protestant as well as catholic.

We don't know that he wasn't baptized. It doesn't state that anywhere in scripture. @@themarcusnash13
