I am Japanese and I agree that we should not do IRL now. However, this situation is not only for foreigners, but also for Japanese people. If a "no photography" sign appears in a restaurant, this applies to Japanese as well. Those who think it is anti-foreigner should change their mind. However, most foreigners ignore the signage, use GAIJIN cards, and pretend they don't know about it, making it even easier for foreigners to be blamed. If you really want to do it right IRL, you have to ask permission every time you enter a store. But remember, in the case of Connor's IRL, snipers cause problems, and no matter how careful Connor is, problems can still be created!

"most foreigners ignore the signage" -I'm pretty sure the foreigners living in Japan have no problems abiding by the rules. It's the dumb tourists and streamers that just land in Japan with preconceived idea of "Japan is non-confrontational" who are the problem.

Honestly you did an excellent job communicating the meaning behind the "No photography/streaming" rules and why it only seems like gaijin are under more scrutiny. What i do hate is that nuisance tourists also make it so emotionally stressful to visit. We can follow social etiquette but it's so scary to try and not make mistakes for fear of being disrespectful

@@SonicRyan1992 I think the best thing you can do is just be respectful. Most Japanese people will be able to tell you are making an effort to respect their customs. The ones that don’t are probably operating on their own bias anyway wether that be bad experiences in the past or something else.

It is a shame but there's not much you can do about it beside wait it out. You could try set a good example of it but people will be scrutinising everything and I don't think it's worth the hassle. That and I know he said it's hard enough to get permissions to film in places before this and sometimes they wouldn't ask and would just leave if asked to, but I imagine this'll make it even harder to film in places as some places even have signs refusing it now which is a shame.

It’s always these shock streamers of them being a straight A Hole by disrespecting people with live there and their culture, or be a criminal all in the name of those clicks. Now one guy is in a Japanese prison for 3 years, and other likely got arrested & was forced to leave the country. Now we got people like Conner who suffer who do respect the culture, their values, laws, and everything else just to entertain people on Twitch and on KZbin. Also now you got people like Giri and Rainhoe which they did a irl stream together that they recently posted on KZbin, and besides acting like giggly school girls abit they weren’t causing no problems. This sucks, because you various content creators like Emirchu who sometimes do IRL videos like her anime cafe videos.

IRL youtubers getting butchered :(. Man its so sad we all love watching Japanese culture the people are so nice they give me hope in humanity. I always feel so humbled when people come on youtube just to video themselves and say how shocked they are about how inviting and generous Japanese people are and that they changed their mindset on how to interact with people and became nicer themselves... From having a lot of really bad relationships with people all my life it makes me so happy when people want to HELP, and not be general assholes all day long. Hope Japan can see past the bad youtubers and recognise the good ones.. GL to everyone who keeps up the good positive influence of youtubing in Japan!

Twitch IRL does well because it’s live, KZbin IRL doesn’t do well bc IRL is quite messy, there can be a lot of downtime and it’s not easy to know which part of the stream is the “good part”. In Twitch these things are expected so viewer retention is still high, I suspect.

It ain't that easy. If he just asks, it's most likely he will be shot down. He described before that he would plan several activities as a backup in the same area. He would arrive and ask if he can stream, if not, then okay, leave and try another place. He would not force the issue because he has to respect the business and people. His long term planned video content takes months because of building trust and scheduling everyone in.
