I’m a commercial Chaga harvester in northern Canada. I’ve been watching a couple conks that I left unharvested on the trees for over 20 years, they can grow very slow and the tree will tolerate them for a really long time before finally dying. My best day harvesting was 230 lbs, all in a single day and on snow shoes. The largest conk i’ve found was just over 33 lbs, but I’ve seen a picture of an even larger one.

What's funny, is that it's also used as "tinder fungus" in survival situations. If you place an ember on the gold part, it will smolder slowly for a long period of time. This allows you to carry fire, rather than have to make it by primitive means. You can make a fire with it, and then make a tea to drink when you get there. Amazing stuff.

Easiest way to make chaga tea is in my opinion as follows. The small pieces of fresh chaga can be dried in or besides an oven under 60 degrees celcius for a couple days. I grind the dry pieces with electric meat mill to powder. About one big spoonful of powder is mixed with one liter of boiling water in an insulated thermos bottle and left to stay for several hours. After that you can pour the tea to a cup and drink it.

There are steaming techniques that make constituents bio-available as well so the product does not have to be simmered and the grain is a food source not an ingredient, on top of that the length of time,temperature and other factors play into the way they grow in an Organic environment and there for not everyone produces a crappy mycelium based Organic product!

Why is everyone always talking about cube's on here?. I respect that people are getting out and sharing the important information on them. Its just not really this dude's mission, as far as I can tell. Rather an advocate of psilocybin, or just a casual forager..we need people of this specific caliber who will inspire a general interest in the public, and educate in a 110% non controversial way.

I was taking Chaga for a few weeks and it gave me crazy heart palpitations and extreme vertigo. I went off of it to see if that was it and it slowly went away. About a month later I bought the super food creamer that had Chaga in it and again those symptoms reappeared. So I know now Chaga is not good for my body. Be aware of side effects and medication interactions. I'm otherwise healthy so it was a very scary experience for me to go through that.

Chaga is a lot of fun to forage. Went out with the kids and got almost four pounds worth today. processed and ground up almost 3 half gallon mason jars of powder Chaga. Now to dehydrate and start processing into tinctures...

Be carefull when sharing this one online and explain how to pick it without removing it from the tree. It is in danger of getting exstinct in norway, because people are picking it and selling online. Takes years for it to grow.

Chaga conk has no role in reproduction. It makes no spores. Also, it grows back (if the tree doesn't die).
@hanslund3082 жыл бұрын
@@davidspahr4020 where on earth did you learn that? I thought chaga spores penetrated injured spots on birch trees. If you cut say 90% of that in an area, there will be lesser spores to reproduce new trees.

Just don't over consume Chaga as it can be taxing on the renal system due to the high oxalate content it picks up from it's birch host. I drink about a tea spoon three times a month to limit oxalate exposure. You can get myco derived β-d-Glucan's from just regularly consuming fungi in general to make up the gap.

I’d love to try Chaga again but I had a very horrible experience with it years ago. I know that it affects melanin and it caused really bad hyperpigmentation for me. I had dark splotches over my face which took many months to fade. I have been taking Reishi and Cordyceps everyday for years and then added Shiitake, Turkey Tail, Lion’s Mane and Chaga and then the hyperpigmentation happened. I suspected Chaga was the culprit so I stopped taking it but continued with the three other new mushrooms. My hyperpigmentation is gone so it was obviously Chaga. Do you know anyone else who experienced this?

"The Chaga mushroom had extremely high oxalate content" - think twice if you already have kidney stones.
@C--A Жыл бұрын
Obviously if you already have kidney problems you shouldn't take it! But most people mistakenly don't realise Chaga has similar Oxalate content to cereals, potatoes, bread, black tea, chocolate. Foods most people eat in a regular basis! Chaga actually has much less Oxalate levels than spinach and green beets. Most people won't develop any kidney stones taking Chaga. You would have to take an extremely high unrecommended dose daily!

Hey wonderful video. I am new to mushrooming stuff. Love it passionate about finding new fungi & absolutely LOVE that a friend of mine has used Lions Maine to kill her stage 4 cancer (amongst aLOT a LOT more efforr like no sugar or alcohol or caffeine etc!!!!) Still myself & my partener have between us serious cognative issues due to my partner being on ECMO machine for 5 weeks. (Extra corporeal membraine oxygenation) basically your body shuts down, is cooled down, the machine pumps your heart & lungs it does what them pumping does for you. He died 3 times! Once for 21 minutes but a Buddhist nurse massaged his heart untill my love came back. Also he had half of a lung removed. All because he had flu which he then caught pnumonia! He remembers being "under the knife" he felt no pain he just felt " Like they had just opened me uo like the Vikings so called blood eagle! I could feel that I was 'open' i felt my lungs exposed & I was on my front with my ribs nit there, but they were but nit in the right place! I gelt so vulnreble byt in & oyt of it all the time." Also bless my live has a part of his learning centre of his brain has an inactive "hole" . His cognative abillity has imparements which come n go. I also have damage to my brain n cognative issues. I looked into Lions Maine. I heard ut can affect a mans hard.on. niether if us want that but we both need the helo from Lions Maine! Any advice on that? Habe yiu heard of that or is raht such a small non problem? Thanks!

There are some white spots on the pile of chaga chunks , in the picture that's about 3/4 of the way through the video. I saw some of that on my chaga. Does anyone know if that is white mold. if so, is it still safe to use?
@ScottWConvid19 Жыл бұрын
It's actually very common and I was hesitant to use it myself, until I had searched it out and learned that it's a specific white mold that is harmless to us. I've used it dozens upon dozens of times and haven't had a single issue.
