This made me cry… so… Ash found Charmander because he was abandoned. It evolved into a Charizard. Ash basically abandoned it too because it needed to get stronger. But that Charizard showed that he actually did care about Ash by saving him. Twice. Because in the first movie, Charizard was one of the Pokémon that revived Ash with it’s tears. Charizard and ash have a very unique bond. And I think charizard got big simply because he is humanly relatable to a lot of people in the fact that he had trust issues after being abandoned. And after ash stepped up for charizard more than once, charizard knew he needed that kind of person in his life and I think us as a human audience all kind of low key want that despite having trust issues. Charizard’s character was extremely well written.

Ash's pikachu never evolved but still reached its full potential because his evolution depends on a special "stone" and not normal evolution chain while charmander doesn't evolve by any stone thus it had to evolve to become more stronger Infact charizard is the only pokemon which defeated legendaries and fought toe to toe without using any special ability unlike ash's greninja as it had "battle bond", sceptile had "overgrow", thus charizard is indeed ash's strongest pokemon after pikachu in its base form

Ash’s Charizard is the GOAT for his battle with Blaine’s Magmar. Seeing that battle as a kid solidified Charizard as one of my top 5 for life. Still to this day the fight is insane to watch

This doesn't mention how Charizard did already start obeying Ash before he was sent to Characific valley after his wings were frozen in a battle and Ash stayed up all night nursing Charizard back to full health. Still think Charizard has a boring design though.

If remember correctly, in Kanto Charizard pretty much followed Ash's orders. He was actually too good as a battler, (interesting enough he was the weakest in the valley when he first got there) which was what started Ash forming new teams each regions.

That was not the first time Charizard did what Ash asked, I remember Charizard destroying the Fire gyms Magmar and winning the battle, and this was because Ash saved Cahrizard's life two times

Ppl forget, this was a charmander who was abandoned in the rain and barely made if by the grace of Ash who rubbed charmander to keep him warm blistering his own hands in the process...then it came in clutch when it turned to chameleon, and THEN turned to the GOAT who fought arodactyl who tried to punk him, THEN again came out ontop against MAGMAR ON A VOLCANO!! if you were a kid during the 90s watching Pokemon on Saturday mornings, the hype for that fight was like watching Tyson vs the best of them...this was like watching End Game the first time...this was so epic that it created a legend...
