I agree, their pit stop strategy was a nightmare today. At first they reacted very slowly to the massive graining on the mediums, even though they knew it wouldn't get any better based on previous experience. Then they left both cars out for far too long on the first set of hards (especially Sainz). Had Ferrari pitted both cars two laps earlier, then they would've probably finished in P2 &3.

As just a Ferrari fan, maybe leaning slightly towards Carlos, I think he was right to overtake because he was faster at that point with warm tires. The overtake didn't really hinder either, and giving Charles the DRS actually helped them both into P3,P4. Also, Carlos had the right to be angry and not listen to the team, because I'm pretty sure Croft said if if Sainz pitted when he wanted, simulation predicted him to be P2(though I and Brundle doubted it)

Brundle is the one who said he didn't believe the simulation since Carlos was more than 9 seconds behind Lewis when it popped up. I feel like this is very Simple: Charles cooked his tyres in the first stint, Carlos was allowed to pass, but tbh it doesnt matter as he would've over taken Charles when he pitted and by letting him pass neither of them lose time by defending or attacking for no reason. Later on Carlos wanted to pit and had been asking to pit for 2~3 laps but the team denied it for some reason, the team then asked him to let charles past despite the danger of Lewis, and the fact that he wanted to pit, eventually he lets the pass happen, then the Stupid pit scenario took place. (no idea how there was no penalty) Carlos now has warm tyres and a potential for a 5s penalty, so when Charles comes out of the pit, why would he stay behind Charles? Charles still needs a lap to warm up the tyres and Carlos might have a penalty, the team and him had more to lose if they made him stay behind so it makes more sense to let him bomb it down the road and catch max. Carlos Overtakes max, I think expecting him to get past max and pull a 1s gap quickly without comprising his own tyres is very very optimistic, besides both Ferraris had better tyres than max at this point so they were both eventually going to get past him. The entire situation would have been avoided if they had boxed Carlos when he had asked, in fact he could've been close to 2nd according to the simulation (debatable). At the end of the day this was probably close to one of the best outcomes for Ferrari so the team was not effected in the title fight. This is my objective view on this.

To answer your unasked question I believe that Sainz didn’t get penalised because the rule basically specifies that the line is counted as ‘there’ for when someone goes over the line to enter the pits and also it counts when the driver also exits the end of the pit lane. However I don’t believe there is any real ruling for when a driver bails out of a pit entry and crossing the line. Don’t quote me that is just what I understand from the current FIA rules.
@jeffrey-825
@jeffrey-825 3 күн бұрын
The key was indeed piting Carlos as Charles and Lewis were on his tail. Degradation being so high and fresh tyres giving so much time in the outlap already, is a clear decision. The ripple effect came in effect and this affected both drivers. Ferrari were napping today. Would it have affected the result? Likely not. But it's better to be in contention for a 2-3 and ending up 3-4, than having to settle for 3-4.
@tilio9380
@tilio9380 3 күн бұрын
@@jeffrey-825This. Ferrari took too long to decide when to pit Carlos. They really should have just called him into the pit instead of telling him to let Leclerc by. But I can also understand from Ferrari's POV: what if the third stint would be too long still for those hards? But anyways, they could have at least avoided that pit lane fiasco.
@Rainaman-
@Rainaman- 3 күн бұрын
There was no penalty because if you look at stop frame Sainz crossed the dotted line with both wheels and not the main line. A partial crossing of the line is allowed, however if he had all 4 wheels behind the line it would had been slam dunk penalty. It's the right call not to get penalty

Imo sainz has long been getting fucked by Ferrari pitwall to the point where he is the one making strategy calls and telling Ferrari to listen. Cuz they aint gonna get up their asses and actually WORK on a strat for carlos. They treat him so shit and expect him to follow every order. He is also not gonna be contesting for the podium for the forseeable future after he leaves ferrari. So to fight for every podium should be his right. Them refusing to box him is prolly the nail in the coffin for carlos and ferrari's relationship. I don't see ferrari giving carlos proper strategy in the next 2 races nor the respect he deserves.

Someone who doesnt obeys the strategy that they were already discussing before the race deserves no applause. Ferrari many times sacrificed leclercs races for his 4 victories. He needs to be a teamplayer too when leclerc needs him. Cuz leclerc obeys the strategy when he is aware that it might help the team. Carlos instead just thinks about himself, which is kinda egoistical considering they arent battling for the indivual title but the constructors. Ferrari today prob lost a second place due to Carlos playing DRS games with Verstappen to harm Leclerc. Carlos is a good second driver with an ego of a world champion. There is a reason, nobody wanted him when Ferrari decided to sign Lewis. Also lets not forget his family and his connections to santander which resulted in Leclerc losing the title in 2022.

Also again are you that blind and dumb to not know about the driver market that sainz was dealing with...alpine the past few seasons has being doing badly including this season, audi has a lot of uncertainty since it will take time to establish themselves, mercedes was only providing 2 year contract as they had already set their eyes on kimi in the future, finally he was left with williams where he was assured by vowels of the future projects and long term contract...coming on to RB they still weren't sure of check since he brings the sponsors, mclaren already had a great pair of drivers. Thank you yet again for being objective with content as usual. Leclerc’s outburst is in the heat of the moment and emotional and with his large fanbase I don’t think it paints a fair picture of Sainz. To me it’s all racing, and instructions can change lap to lap corner to corner. As you pointed out Sainz had more pace so it’s natural he would try to overtake. Hard tyres are also difficult to warm up which even Leclerc acknowledged, so why should Sainz sacrifice pace for no reason just to wait for Leclerc to warm up his fresh hards? I’d say the cold weather makes it even harder still to warm them up. At the end of the day Leclerc is very likeable and I get why a lot of people root for him, but just because Sainz or any other other driver takes control of a situation doesn’t make the other driver a ‘bad guy’ and neither does it ‘screw you over because you’re a nice guy’. It’s not like the move jeopardised anything. So yea I think Leclerc could be a bit more reserved with his comments especially since his fanbase is quite vocal. He’s a great driver and if he can trust his instincts and read races better the way Sainz does I’ve no doubt he’ll be an even better driver still.

"Always listened to team order" mention one time where he listened to a team order which was beneficial to Leclerc or Ferrari, i'll wait. He also was not quicker at all. He ruined his tyres on the second stint and complained on the radio, so they had to pit him early. This caused him to ruin his tyres again on the 3rd stint, that's why Leclerc was catching up fast with fresher tyres, but as soon as he was about to pass him, he overtakes Max and in the telemetry data you can see he lifted and braked in certain areas to give Max the DRS to ruin Leclerc's tyres. When Leclerc overtook Max he stopped doing that. This is not forgetting that he was not supposed to overtake Charles at all to follow the team's agreements and strategies. He almost cost the team more points than he already has, like crashing in Baku, Canada, Singapore and 2x in Brazil wasn't bad enough.

I don't blame Carlos for overtaking Charles, after all it was for the podium. However, what I don't understand is him backing his teammate into Hamilton and refusing to yield, even though he was a lot slower towards the end of his 2nd stint. Ferrari should've boxed Sainz at least two laps earlier and then they would've probably finished with both cars on the podium, as Hamilton didn't have the straightline speed to overtake the Ferraris on track. For a moment - I thought Binotto was running the Ferrari team again - back to all their strategic screw-ups! As far as Charles goes - Sainz had already let him by once - on team orders - so when he comes out on cold tires and Carlos is at full chat on warm tires, what's he supposed to do - slow down for Charles!?! Ridiculous!! Sainz was faster than Charles, Sainz drove a better race than Charles - and Sainz would have been better yet if Ferrari had listened to him about pit stops, and had their act together! Charles is a little whiner - quit relying on "Daddy" (Fred Vasseur) to hold your hand and favor you over Sainz - drive your own race Charles, and quit being a whining whimp about it!! As for Fred Vasseur - quit treating Sainz like a step child - get your team in order and support him equally in these last 2 race weekends! It's a bit of a faff. Leclerc lashing out is understandable, Sainz jumping Leclerc is also understandable. Sainz aborted a pitstop crossing over the line to pit entry. What Sainz was thinking was he would be penalized for it. He anticipated that and did go over and took his best chance at minimizing the damage pre-emptively. After the race, Leclerc felt cheated, but he is innocent considering he immediately did not know why Sainz did that. 0:28 Carlos was absolutely NOT faster than Charles at Vegas! The only time Carlso was faster than Charles was when Charles cooked his tires fighting Russell for the lead. Later in the race, Carlos was told to swap places with Charles because Charles was faster and was keeping Lewis at bay. Charles, in fact, opened up over a second gap on Lewis, and was on Carlos' rear end. Charles was much faster than Carlos averaging, at times .5 seconds a lap, and that's why Carlos was told to let Charles through. Carlos said he'd let Charles by at turn 14, but left him no room. Carlos then said he'd let Charles by at turn 5 , and again, left him no room. Carlos finally let Charles pass at turn 16; one lap later (all of which can be seen, and heard, on the driver radio's and the Tracker on F1 TV Pro). In the process Carlos slowed Charles down so much that Lewis was now back on Charles' defuser. The f'ing around by Carlos, almost allowed Hamilton to get around Carlos. Carlos was then told, he's not to pressure Charles after Charles pit the second time. Charles, having been told by Bryan Bozzi twice, that Carlos would not pressure him, Charles believed he was under no pressure from Carlos, so Charles failed to defend. On cold tires, if Charles would have defended against Carlos, they might have come together and took each other out. If they take each other out, the TEAM would be out of the running for the Constructors Championship. Carlos is not a team player, and that's why Carlos won't be at Ferrari next year! 0:04

Letting them race here doesn't hurt their chances to win the constructors title as they were clearly faster than McLaren and slower than Mercedes. It's just a matter of which driver finishes ahead. I think the frustration is more bcz during the last laps VER was ahead of SAI n LEC.. lec was catching sainz but then sainz passed ver and kept him behind until it he gets a sufficient laps to defend. I first thought it's just a coincidence but then saw sainz minimising the gap less the 1 sec.

This is possibly Carlos' last chance at a podium for the rest of his career. Not going for it would have been 100% the wrong decision.

I think their relationship is officially broken, and it's not Charles or Carlos fault. Ferrari is still unable to manage their drivers or even listen to them when things are going sideways for the team in a race (reminds me of Vettel's last year with Ferrari). Lewis will have field days with them next year 😅😂😂

George said they expected to be fast in Qatar and they did look very fast initially at Austin. So maybe they’ve found the balance in the new upgrades?

It will be interesting when Lewis joins the team for the 2025 AD season.

I wish the DRS line was at the exit of the turn so we could possibly get double slipstreaming.

Im sorry But most people dont understand that Its not about who finishes ahead Its about that when sainz moans on The radio and Leclerc is asked to not attack he backs Off. When sainz gets told to not attack for The benefit of The entire team, he does whatever he pleases. Sainz fans can tell themselves whatever they want But this is The reason No Other top team wanted him.

This is BS. Sainz has obeyed plenty... Even this season, when he would've been forgiven for being a bit rebellious. Other times he's ignored is when Ferrari was just 'inventing' only to benefit Charles, for no strategic purpose.

You don’t get a penalty for crossing the pit entry line if you don’t ENTER the pits

We need more races with cars doing 2 or more pit stops. Also more tyre variations would be good

The racing and qualifying was phenomenal, but given where the race was you would expect the stands to be packed all weekend. This race could go the way of others unless the fans make it viable for the full weekend!!

Sainz should have caught a penalty for entering the pit lane, then unsafely returning to the track. I have said Ferrari needs to replace their entire strategy team since Seb left. The have lost countless races because of their lack of strategy, and not because of the car or drivers.

Leclerc is absolutely right to be upset with the team

The pitting strategy was terrible by Ferrari. Carlos is gone for a reason, he doesn't listen to team orders. I don't think Carlos was quicker, when he passes Max near the end he didn't not break away and chase Hamilton, it was more important for him to keep Max close creating a DRS issues. Once Charles passed Max he was putting pressure on Carlos. Remember Charles gave up the position earlier for Carlos after using (abusing) his tire to try and overtake Russell.
