Stopped by your Howie’s location a couple weeks ago and agree it’s a great place to offer sharpening services! High visibility from SG Bl and Duarte. Being at Howie’s and next to San Marino/East San Gabriel means you get higher income and more discerning customers. They are more likely to be informed about the need to sharpen knives and are more enthusiastic cooks/foodies. You may also do good business at the Trader Joe’s/CVS right up the street, or any supermarket in South Pasadena.

You have 3 machines on the front table, does each machine have different grit on the belts so you can move to each machine instead of changing belts every time?
@billmoody9736 Жыл бұрын
i hope you're just busy and haven't stopped making videos - I have a kalamazoo and may try to modify it like yours. My favorite belt is the leather one, just finishes off the knife so well. Thanks for making your videos.

You resonated with your audience for sure, I'm a young sharpener looking to start small throughout the neighborhood. Still working on stones but as I grow my customer base and make a little profit I might update to a belt system similar to yours. It would be awesome to have a little chat regarding how you started all of this, and some of the specifics in the industry.

I'd also like to see a video on your setup! I run a Kalamazoo but a step down from what you're using. Are those stock plattens or mods/aftermarket?

Hi steven, do you ever sharpen scissors? If so, would you be willing to do a tutorial? I just started knife sharpening on the side and literally had my first actual customer this afternoon. One of the first requests i got online was scissor sharpening.

i watch Curry cutlery , as well as just finding your video's, I do sharpening a well but more as a hobby , I'm in Australia by the way. like you i get some very damaged edges, , i generally sort them on a white allox wheel on a grinder. but i have just acquired a Ryobi 1 x 30 belt grinder with a 5" disc, and mitre table. I currently use a wet stone grinder , then a 600Grit oil stone and hone on a MDF wheel with hyperfin metal polish, i find this works well for me , but I'm always looking for better options, like you I also don't charge as much as others , as i find people are more likely to come back if you do a good job and don't rip them off. Some sharpeners down here charge $1.00 a blade inch, i charge a flat rate, $5.00 a blade and if damaged an extra $5.00 to rectify. cheers from Australia. good videos, may be a bit more on your sharpening method , the belt grits and technique, please

So belts although fast method of sharpening, eats up metal very quickly, so its good for kitchen aid knives but bad for expensive knives where you want knife to last
