As a Canadian who has also lived in the US for 10 years, after being in china for four years, the massive scale of infrastructure development in china is really just astounding. New bridges, tunnels, planes, airports, high speed trains, subway systems, it’s all happening at an unimaginable scale that will only help stimulate continued growth for its massive population.

This is very simple reason for why. The reason is successful planning from CCP to help develop China into competitive zones where the Prefectures/Governor/Secretaries all compete together to who can achieve the most in their time as public servant working for the people. This does not happen with China, while corruption exists, majority of money/resources can be focus on exactly what they are meant to do, despite often leaving some affect less well off. So, sadly, because of democracy, the government has to find the compromise which can takes lengthy time and cost taxpayer huge amount of money, eg there is around 50 surveys done for Heathrow on taxpayer money just to start the consulting period. Yes, I can feel the mass production techniques in their vein. It's evidence at least 2200 years ago at Qin Shi Huang's tomb. They could find an efficient techniques for mass producing terracotta warriors even though each had different faces but they could figure out which parts could be mass produced and which parts would be custom carved later. A few hundred years later, they invented paper and figured out how to mass produce it soon. Overall, they are good at planning and also adapting rapidly when things don't comply with the plan.

There’s a few advantages in the Chinese governmental structure that enables such huge undertakings with efficiency and timely management: 1) The governmental power isn’t segregated. Even when a project last over two or three leadership teams, the long term goals are kept. Unlike the west, the new president does not stop the previous president’s work or undermine the opposing party’s projects. 2) The policies in china are voted by people’s representatives instead of every citizen. The representatives are nominated through all fields of work across the entire nation, they have to be the experts in what they do or they are the leaders in their community. Instead of having giant pools of “peanut galleries” of ignorant(on different subjects) people voting on matters they don’t understand, who also are more likely to vote on short sighted temporal interest, China has experts on every field of work, way of life, standing on a higher level to vote on matters that may effect people’s well being for more than 10, 20, even 50, 100 years. 3) China doesn’t adopt a “mob rule” democratic policy. No 51% winning, which segregates people even more. When a policy has votes that are close in percentage, a dialogue is initiated. Talks, negotiations, teachings and Compromises are made. Which enables the entire government to come to a same standpoint and carry on the project without feeling of hatred by different interest groups. This is the single government efficiency that China had been able to enjoy. I remember about 25 years ago, before I left China, I have no friends whose family had cars, but the government were building super high ways across the country. China was poor and even within the country, many were talking about how these projects were just another way of corruption since we can’t see how these projects are actually beneficial. Look at what’s happening in China now. Nobody would say any of it was a waste! Truth is, common people just don’t have the vision. When it comes to national policies, Chinese people are coming to a conclusion and understanding, that we should leave it to the experts. And our leaders. Because the past 70years it had proven that the leaders of China, had visions, did great jobs, and the Chinese government system, WORKS.

the U.S military spending reaches trillions of dollars but their rail way system is far behind China, spending more to strengthen economy by building infrastructures, roads and rail roads means thinking about the future. The U.S funding of terrorists and invading other countries can only go so far, not to mention the cons and after effects of war. China has a long term goal of becoming the most powerful by using its economy without relying too much on its military, while the U.S is probably gonna blow up by itself in the next few decades. in a few decades China will surely surpass the U.S as the #1 super power, unless the U.S changes its ways.

I would say that having engineering graduates running the country was the best move from China. They certainly know what is the priority, and of course being communist also help them achieving it faster as you dont have to walk through with the less educated person, assuming that half of the population is dumber than the other half of the population, giving them a voting right simply drags out all types of projects, the US is a good example of this. :D

As a chinese native,maybe i am not able to conclude all and objective,my answer is…a) The continuity of policy from government,it is utmost important,because these bulidings and infrustrcture will take long time;b) Land acquisation and taxes collection. China spends her billions in national and domestic infrastructures to improve the country herself, not in raining death, chaos and destruction in far-away, resource-rich countries because such states decided to not follow Washiington's, Tel Aviv's and Riyadh's marching orders. Not having to maintain very expensive 800+ military bases spread like cancerous tumours across the planet ready to rapidly punish weak countries helps to better fund infrastructure projects too. A bullet train network across the USA, Canada and Mexico would've been incredible! I don't think I'll ever see that in my lifetime sadly.

1st: Of course its easy and fast because 1 man decision and everybody must obey or prepare to lose your job or even worse you'll end up in a prison somewhere for disobeying order. Dont get me wrong here im not just saying this to mock china or something because my country used to have such leader too (Pres. Soeharto) he was reigning for 32 years in indonesia which in Republic system you could actually only reigned for 2 periods of time. While the current china president looks like our 1st President (Pres. Soekarno) which deviating from the standard Republic system too by Electing himself as a LIFETIME president and the parlement at that time (MPRS and DPRS) MUST answered to him (he reversed the role where actually president must answered to them). Im not saying our 2 president made a bad policies though since thanks to them our country could enjoy a good life overall since we could grow really fast since it doesnt need a form of complicated governship every project could go really fast and even the bad part are the same just dont critics the government and try your hardest to be patient with government policies even if you dont agree with them ( in some form, your freedom to say anything close to politic especially that could damage the image of government would be taken away from you). Just a fair warning though Pres Soekarno annaunced that he will reigned until the day he die (RIS: Republik Indonesia Serikat) but couldn't even reigned for more than 10 years while Pres. Soeharto didn't announced anything but could ruled for 32 years i think its wiser not to announce what you want to the public. 2nd: China did not give Ownership of the land to its people so land relieved could be far easier and cheaper to do. If im not wrong the people could only received lease of the land and not having permanent ownership of the land i dont know for sure so i need your help with this one to confirmed it if its true or not. 3rd: China could have massive manpower since they got the highest population in the world. 4th: China quite lucky with theyre geography, unlike indonesia in middle of ring of fire, got smacked with 3 earth crust, and big ocean to the south and west ( prone to earthquake,flash flood,tsunami,avalance,volcano eruption,raining ash or ice) we often have to think really hard before building something a tottal geographic and logistical nightmare sometimes because were archipelago type of country too.
