The DF-26 should be fine for attacking Guam but so can simpler guided munitions. I don't see the cost/benefit of using such an expensive missile where a stealth cruise missile could do the same. The US had the Pershing missile 30 years ago that could do the same thing so nothing new here. Besides, if China attacked Guam, do you not think the US will retaliate in kind to Chinese mainland? Just buy some David's Sling or upgrade current Patriot systems like the prior. And together with THAAD, maybe even with Zeros, it will be more than enough to handle any ballistic missile threat. Also add some Iron Dome or something similar, and some LASER CIWS stuff, no air threat regardless even if its a swarm attack can approach Guam.

@Chris Lloyd SM3 is expensive and should be reserved for ICBM interception. From what I read, David's Sling that can also engage ballistic missile at 300 km is only at $ 1M or $ 2M per missile. Iron Dome is maybe around $ 50,000 thats why I think its good for countering swarm attacks.

@@mostafaanwar9544 No doubt US tech in terms of missile technology falls behind from its counterparts. Luckly it has Israel as its ally, which has an edge in these systems. Even better than the S400. Just buy Israel's stuff or upgrade their current Patriot to PAAC-4 that use Israel tech and they are good to go. Their is also the MEADS program in partnership with the Germany and Italy sooner or later something good will also come out of it. Their is also Israel's hypersonic ARROW missile system designed purely for ICBM interception, better than THAAD. They can supplement with that. US also has its SM3 which is also hypersonic. This is y it pays to be in a team so ur allies can fill ur shortcomings. China has none of that, as it antogonizes all of its neighbors. Including India, which has Brahmos. And even Russia if Im not wrong. Neighbouring countries that dont like the US can opt to buy from India or Russia. Ever heard of an enemy of my enemy is a friend. China is a making an enemy of the world, its just going to shoot its own foot.

Sorry, I don't know where you get your information from. The 20 mile miss was the long range hypersonic missile that China is testing. That missile is a strategic weapon intended to target the US mainland and not Guam. Of course accuracy will be improving as the Chinese work on perfecting that missile, which has not yet been deployed. The DF26 is a completely different weapon, and has been tested to great accuracy, as a intermediate range ballistic missile which also has an anti-ship version. This was demonstrated quite successfully in the 2021 test firing, which test also featured a 2nd missile, the DF21B, another (shorter range) ASBM.

Df 26 and 21 have been moved inland to prevent interception by SM3 and aegis destroyers and cruisers in the exo atmosphere, relying instead on the range of its terminal phase only. This decision was made by the ccp after the 3rd successful interception of a satellite at mach 25 by the aegis/sm3 combo in the exo atmophere/intermediate phase. So these missiles can't reach guam or any carrier at standoff distances anymore. The fact they call these guided is a total lie. At hypersonic speeds, the plasma shroud prevents quidance signals to be received or sent, which makes it ineffective against moving targets. Thats why the khinzal or zircon missiles slows down at terminal speed for its guidance to work, but df21 26 can't slow down, which makes it essentially just a regular icbm which are all hypersonic anyway at re entry.

I think drone technology we assisted/learned/watched used effectively in Ukraine could be interesting as a swarm defense for this missile. I realize hypersonic is fast but nothing is unstoppable and US does better than most on not tipping it’s hand on technology we already have to counter this threat.
