Mom of 3 here 🙋🏻♀️ For Santa we told our kids that he wasn’t real but explained the story of how the legend started. We tell them it’s just for fun but that Christmas is about Jesus and we do Advent together. On Easter we do baskets but the kids know it’s from us and we remind them that we’re celebrating the resurrection of Jesus and how He died for our sins to give us the gift of salvation. We still do eggs at church because candy is fun. Lol. For the tooth fairy we told our oldest that there’s no tooth fairy but more of tooth mommies and daddies. Lol. He must’ve not fully understood what we meant thought because when he woke up and found $5 under his pillow (first tooth) he gasped and was like “The tooth fairy did come... 😲”

There is definitely a way to have the "fun" part of Easter without confusing kids. My family never told me about the Easter bunny; that was never a thing. They told us about what Easter was truly about and anytime we would hear someone on tv mention the Easter Bunny we knew it was a bunch of nonsense. We would go on Easter egg hunts but that would just be a fun little side thing, kind of like fireworks on New Year's. We knew from a very early age that Easter egg hunting was not the main event Jesus was. Another thing that my mom did was in addition to normal eggs she got these things called Resurrection eggs. In each egg was a small little trinket meant to represent the Good Friday and Easter story and we would talk about it. I know it is a little cheesy but it is a nice reminder.

In regard to the enneagram: it looks like something I would have seen on a late 80’s metal album cover. There’s nothing that even remotely looks biblical just looking at it. And God never purposed it to be a “secret decoder ring” to understand scripture. That’s the Holy Spirit’s job, & He’s always on call for you.
@lindaowensby99603 жыл бұрын
Paul proposed “self examination”, it was a command nit a suggestion!! I’d say Paul was right since the instruction given to us by Jesus himself was to “deny self” and our nation, including the church is full of “self love” completely ignoring the one thing that likely stands in the way of a full on Spirit filled life is the god of self then how do we say anything that causes us to look inward at what might hinder that gift of living free would be a bad thing!?!I really hate the misinformation shared by so many that just might lead to an awakening of sorts. Is it gospel? The telling of self traits that are sinful is in no way a bad thing but rather a grand way of removing convoluted “self love”. Taking care of your own temple, the body you live in is wise, worshipping it is another thing all together? Making sense??

@@lindaowensby9960 The enneagram is a bad thing when the person responsible for for the personality types got that information via automatic writing (kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJrMk5-NZbipbsk). But apart from potential sensationalism that can come from accusations of occult practices, my original argument still stands. We are to examine ourselves in comparison to scripture, with the Holy Spirit bringing conviction and comfort. An extra-biblical tool, especially one with such sketchy origins, is just not necessary. When you keep your eyes on Jesus, stay in His word, and esteem others more highly than yourself(Philippians 2:3), your are on the road destroying “self love.” Also see Romans 12:3 & Zephaniah 2:3.

@@richardgrooms2818 amen! Something I speak against so often that the church has embraced “can’t love anyone unless you learn to love yourself”. Directly from the pit of hell. I do just wish Christians could allow the Holy Spirit to work and not be that policing that only He can do. After all. He used a donkey, He can use the ennegram or whatever else He chooses to open our eyes to what is eating at our own hearts! Anger, jealousy, bitterness, hurts that go way down deep that cause this kind of behavior need dug up by the root!! Self examination isn’t a suggestion, it is a command. I don’t live by the Enneagram, but found each one of my family members to see an absolute habitual behavior that was a leading cause for trouble. My son sat stone cold faced after listening to the description of the 3; a liar, with no effort to do so, he just lies. It isn’t a thought out thing, he would lie even if the truth sounds better. He has prayerfully brought this before the Lord and like each of us, continues to do as commanded “hold every thought captive in obedience to Christ.”! This resonates with him on a huge scale. My husband is fear driven!! He has a multitude of thoughts at every situation from bad to worse on what “might go wrong”. How awful! How exhausting! And this has helped me to stop being so angry with all the fear that falls from his mouth, instead, I remind Him that our God is greater than his fears! I cannot stress to you how much this has helped our relationship! May daughter is a 1, is demanding and a bit demeaning to others since she “knows” what everyone should be doing and sees how she can help them. She knows it is annoying and her brother and herself have turned a huge corner in their relationship, all for the better!! We don’t excuse these behaviors rather we are encouraging each other to be “quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger...” You can discredit the enneagram all you want, I don’t worship it and I don’t spend hours on it. The initial discovery has again been extremely helpful for my young adults, 24 and 25 to love each other more after these destructive habits have been so hurtful when growing up and for my children to have some clear insight into their demanding father overwhelmed by fear continually that brought about a kind of controlling dad as he only knew to bow to his fears. Sorry if you can’t see the value. The enneagram, like any other thing in our lives, can take the place of God if we worship it. I, nor my family, do that. But God has blessed the insight, like it or not, we see the benefit.

I totally get where you (and lots of people in the comments) are coming from with the Enneagram. I've met people who are weirdly obsessed with that sort of thing. But, first, two things: 1) just because something may or may not have ties to something weird, does not mean it itself is automatically bad (and, again, the roots of the Enneagram are incredibly debatable as it's been around for ages. I've heard that monks used it in order to get along better in monasteries, I've heard that the devil incarnate gave it to mankind...etc. There are SO many stories surrounding its origins). Granted, if you can see that something clearly has roots in something terrible, you automatically have a good reason to dismiss it...but the Enneagram roots are debatable in the first place, so I'd strongly advocate for it being judged on its own merits as it stands today. 2) Allie's right: it's a tool. The Enneagram is not the be-all-end-all. Christ is. However, I also know that understanding my shortcoming betters has actually improved my faith. When I notice myself wrestling with issues I've dealt with before, I have an idea of why I'm struggling with them; this gives me so much direction in asking God to help me sort out my flaws so I can better serve Him. Obviously God could have revealed and worked on those flaws any way He chose, but I believe that He has used the Enneagram in some ways to convict and work on me. Also another note...like Allie said, there are certain things we as Christians, no matter our personality type, should do. Serving others, standing up for Christ, studying our Bibles...etc. And she had a great point in saying the Enneagram is not an excuse to not do those things. I fully agree. However, I believe the Enneagram is an excellent tool to help us better work on those traits we should all have (I think it was a little contradictory for her to say we need to be more like Christ...but not that we should be a better version of ourselves. Our better version IS being more like Christ. The Enneagram merely points out the different areas where we are definitely lacking in being like Christ--yes, that is all areas, but you know what I mean...the weak spots--and encourages us to work on those). For example, I have always loved serving other people...but finding out my Enneagram made me realize my motivations for serving others were not pure (I'm a type 3...I was motivated to serve other people because it made me look good). I also found I was particularly weak in standing up for Christ because I was concerned about my reputation being ruined in the eyes of other people. Overall, the Enneagram has greatly assisted me in striving to be more like Christ because I can so clearly see the areas where I'm seriously lacking. I think the overall moral of the story is this: tools, like the Enneagram, are what you make of them. I see the Enneagram as a tool to better serve Christ and others. I see it as a way to, not justify, but to better understand why I feel or react the way I do to certain situations. For me, it really comes down to seeing the Enneagram as a gift from God; this always puts God ahead of the Enneagram, since a gift is never greater than its gift-giver.

We raised our kids the way I was raised. We played Santa with the knowledge that Momma and Daddy was Santa. We didn’t do much with Easter. We observed Resurrection Sunday. If they were somewhere that was doing an Easter egg hunt, I didn’t exclude them from it. It was just a kids game and usually those things would take place on a Saturday anyway. When I was studying about the paganism of many of our holidays, we tried doing Thanks”gifting" one year, instead of Christmas. We had gifts for them on Thanksgiving in thankfulness of the blessings on God. That same year at Christmas we picked a family in need to buy gifts for instead of receiving anything. We only did that one year, but I know it was meaningful. I was always open with my kids letting them know that we didn’t know it all and that we were leaning. Everything we did different from normal, though our growing process, we asked them to pray about, also to let God lead our family. We would come together as a family and discuss what we all thought the Lord wanted us to do. Dady of course had the final say. We were blessed, however, that we were all pretty like minded.

All human beings have the physiological capacity to engage every capacity necessary to perceive and interpret information in our world. If we get stuck in a rut, of anger, fear, or self-image (motivations of enneagram types), then we handicap ourselves. Temperament is how we operate and personality is our motivational habits, but, to an extent, we are prone to exacerbate blindspots if we allow anything (personality type, political affiliation, or whatever), to handicap our perception, thinking or emotional fuel to action. Yes, idolatry, gratuitously, creates blindspots. Some people even become, literally, impaired in some way, and resist adapting out of frustration, anger, habit, or some other source of resistance to adaptation to what is. Personality is no excuse for pretending not to be able to see, hear or understand what we can and do. I have seen hedonism labeled as all sorts of words that serve the resourcefulness of the addict. People should consider how children do not need specific personality types to protect and care for them, they need adults who are not endangering. Social workers saying, "relapse is part of addiction; so-in-so has an addictive personality type" are aiding and abetting child endangerment.

I wanted my kids to know that I would never lie to them, so if something big ever came up they would know that they could trust me big and small and they could trust without doubt. ❤️ That's what I did with all the holidays and we still had a blast. Re:Easter baskets: Look at the tradition of holidays and celebration among God's people through history. Gladness and feasting, and generosity from gratitude (literally, Thanksgiving). The account of the origin of Purim, AKA the ending of Esther, even specifically mentions the Jews exchanging gifts of food. Perhaps there is something there, designed in us by God, leading us to do these things to commemorate His triumphs. I'd perhaps differentiate between Easter baskets or egg hunts - cultural practices during a certain time of the year - and presenting a fantasy to a child as if it were reality, e.g. Tooth Fairy or Santa. Not saying those are inherently wrong either, but an Easter basket, a Christmas present, or Valentine's Day candy do exist here and now, as actual experiences, and so I think they are *easier* to properly contextualize in a Christian household (and are often rooted in or adjacent to Christian tradition anyway). *Declaration of Competing Interest:* The author of this comment received annual Easter baskets from his parents growing up.

I appreciate your insights Allie......I've used the Enneagram in a great way to grow and understand myself. I disagree with alot of these comments.....If used correctly the Enneagram is extremely helpful. I will listen to your former Podcasts on this subject. I was introduced to this tool by a Chaplin/Psychologist that I had a great deal of respect for. I suspect many of the negative comments are coming from people who have no idea what it is.

Nope-the comments are coming from people who have done their homework on it. You should do likewise.

Yeah...how can someone celebrate Easter Bunnies and Easter Eggs on the same day. It seems double minded.
@bluehorsey12713 жыл бұрын
How can you worship Christ on the holiday of Him rising from the grave and do Easter eggs and Easter bunnies. To me it is a distraction from our hearts and minds being on Him and the worship He deserves on this day especially. I like to do a spring fun day and color eggs and have candy and stuff. Then there is not the distraction for my child...

I sure hope you don’t celebrate Christmas. If you do, you’re a hypocrite.

Haha.. what a joke. You automatically determine something you dont understand as demonic. If you actually knew the enneagram you would know that it by NO MEANS excuses sins or justifies them in any way. It gives you a core personality type and what fears and coping mech. Drive you to process information and cope with it the way you do. If you study deeper you have a wing that shows how you behave when you are a mentally healthy version of yourself and where you go when you are unhealthy. None of which are excuses. It points out strengths and weaknesses not sk you blame your weakness on "your enneagram #) but so you can identify where you are weak and work on improving those aspects of your personality. Not once does the enneagram say that the sin associated with a number is justified. Instead it warns you that because of how you cope with fear, that sin would be one that you should avoid because it will most likely be where a very very unhealthy version of yourself will end up if you do not check and correct your behavior before then... it is a tool designed to help growth in character and better understand the people around you. If used correctly it actually would prevent u from thinking in a box(like you are now) and instead helps promote growth in character and helps you AVOID sinning or acting out due to core fears.... I find it ironic that you sit here saying it is devilish and should not be used by Christian's, as you profit off of your youtube channel and promote a book you wrote.. sounds like greed to me.. dr. Lahue is a christian who teaches the enneagram in a comprehensive way to help promote growth and to avoid sin. To help promote being the best version of yourself... you put yourself on a platform and speak on something solely based on the fact that you do not understand it. And to make it worse, you get money by doing it! How does that make sense?

I like her politics but christianity soon will start accepting a rapidly growing scope of "new age" beliefs. As the churches continue to lose people, who are choosing by the thousands to leave the churches of the heartless master and go back to the Gods of their ancestors, the churches will once again try to re-appropriate those ethnic beliefs in an effort to keep folks stuck.It won't work though, the spirit of Wotan's people grows, and all are welcomed there without the need to bend their knees or pay for their own soul.

I think that you know nothing about the Enneagram. Oscar Ichazo and others have perverted this useful symbol. The Enneagram has nothing to do with pop psychology or new age drivel.

Well listen to her podcast episode where she discusses it... she goes more in depth. However I feel like.. everything in moderation. so long as you aren’t valuing what the enneagram has to say over what God has to say, I don’t really see the issue.

@@Cheesyenchilady then what's the point of using it at all?
@Cheesyenchilady3 жыл бұрын
@@BB.halo_heir so... you either have to value enneagram over Gods word or else not use it at all? 🥴 I value Gods word more than I value The Hunger Games, but I read that too. I value Gods word more than I believe in democracy, but I believe in that. I don’t know what you’re getting at

@@BB.halo_heir I personally don’t. But sometimes it’s nice to feel like you’re a “type” and that other people are like you. I think personality tests do that to people. Some people are interested in psychology. 🤷♀️
