sparky has typically been used with tanky win conditions for the better part of recent years and as a consequence when these cards are nerfed/phase out of the meta the sparky suffers alot so it’s kind of in a purgatory of being good until the win condition is nerfed

Always remember evolutions solely exists to make either bad cards good, or balanced cards even better. Mortar is actually by far one of the most balanced of all the current evolutions in the game (of course as of this comment since there will be more in the future). In fact, the mortar evolution is actually my first evolution card not because I’m interested in these siege decks you see these days, but the fact the goblin it spawns makes it a great stall support card for the deck I use. The ability to chip off fireballies after the shot hits them followed by something like a log or zap makes the mortar evolution absolutely great in my opinion at least. The current stats is fine as it is, especially since earthquake also exists too

Mortar Evolution is busted! I have lots close matchups with Evo Mortar and every time the elixir hits 2x, 3x I have a feeling it is like really impossible for me to defend the mortar and the only way I can win against mortar is to get lead in Tower Damage. Trust me I've had lost like 2000 Tower health each time I make a minor mistake!

Not to be that guy but evolutions don’t excel at making bad cards better, because the bad cards it’s on are niche. So far almost all the evolution have been on decent or great cards, the only exception really being barbarians.

id say evos are used to make cards with a boring cycle more exciting to play. like royal giant, the gameplay loop would be dropping it and support, while with the evo sometimes you want to save it which adds a bit of complexity to the cycle. and stuff like valk, which was a very boring card to drop and play against, all of a sudden has a breath of fresh air to it

Mortar has a great niche on the ladder of being very good when underleveled compared to other win conditions. Whether or not it hits the tower can be entirely dictated by skill and outplaying your opponent so even if it doesnt do as much damage or have enough hp to stick around, a good player can keep creating scenarios when it gets a hit on tower, even with a level disadvantage. It carried me through challenger 1 and 2, just pre path of legends, at lvl 12 vs lvl 14s, and now is holding its own in a lvl 14 deck with no evos playing almost exclusively max lvl 15 decks with 2 evos

I actually experimented with a deck that took advantage of the mortar's deadzone by using Fisherman to pull cards out of its targeting range, either following up with guards or a hunter to deal with whatever the fisherman dragged in.

I've played mortar since day 1. It may have high win rates, but with such low usage, it shouldn't be nerfed. Instead nerf overused cards to get players to branch out

The dead zone has made the mortar my favorite card for for 4 years. I kinda miss mortar being non meta because now people know how to handle it better and mortar v mortar matchups suck… in all of 2020 and 2021 i mightve gotten mortar v mortar matchups just two or three times

I'd rather it not get buffed since it's still a really strong card and a buff would cause attention to it which would make it nerfed. Evo mortar is completely viable

I dont wanna be that guy, but you mentioned the nerfs for mortar and the time it was while recieving them was around rascals, i may be one of the persons involucrated in that, since before the prince mortar, and a bit before rascals, i was running still prince and pekka in the same deck which was risky, i ended up changing to a more mortar strat with prince since it was my fav card, and rapidly got to the highest arena, later i found rascals were perfect since the cut for knight and archers to dart goblin and rascals made the deck more consistent, that so the log bait meta wasnt effective, also prince was like a pretty solid secondary or in my case principal damage output to use as bait and defense, since prince wasnt popular around that time, the later buff made it even better, i only used log to further made better use of the prince, but it turned out to be pretty effective to bait any card the opp had to use and then take that out to put mortar in. I may be one of the first to run the pince mortar actually, which would be funny since i really grinded at that time when i started playing that deck, some week or month after the use of my deck, it turned out to get pretty popular, since it was getting consistent for me to get mirrors, like 2 or 3 of every 10 games. Pretty happy to see prince actually seeing some use after having a pretty bad time being a bad unit.

ive loved the mortar for years, ever since i found my main deck and learned how powerful it was on both offense and defense. my main deck is goblin giant, mortar, mini pekka, musketeer, bats, electro spirit, fireball, and zap. its very difficult for any deck to handle a double elixir goblin giant mini pekka musketeer spell supported push with a mortar fishing for a tower lock the entire time.

electro spirit is very important in this deck because when you combine it with zap, you can fully take out minions, princesses, goblins, and most importantly, goblin barrels planted directly on your tower. zap is better for offense with the goblin giant, so you dont want the log in this deck, meaning youre weak to swarms, which electro spirit does well against. the fact that you play two cards to counter goblin barrel actually helps you, because you move through your cycle faster. zap could be replaced by snowball or the rage spell now that it does damage, but i prefer zap for inferno tower and sparky.

10:52, I played cr barely back in 2017, a decent amount in 2021, and on a new account about 9 months ago, I instantly started using mortar after I got out of my mid ladder beat down phase and ever since July I my main was my own who mortar deck, then a few months later, I came across Aaron cr, I now use 2.9 mortar rocket cycle but with nado over arrows and I got my mortar mastery maxed out a month ago with it only taking me less than 6 months
