Agree, they didn't even mention in the video that he tore down a beautiful Lautner home to build his club. Albeit with Lautner's blessing, but it was under the condition that Lautner would design the club and then John dies. So Goldstein builds a tribute to a Lautner design.

Interesting documentary. A charitable organization to which I donate is holding an event at his residence. Other than his real estate investments they don't really mention how he became so wealthy. The house, grounds, and club almost feels like what people dream they'd do with their wealth if they won the lottery. Not saying they'd have the same dream or vision for how they spent their money, just that the whole concept, design, personal expression and vision he had has that same dream like feel to it. Fortunately for him he's had the money to live out his dreams where as the majority of the population can only dream of acquiring the funds it would take to actualize them. I know nothing about the man but it seems he's lived a fairly self indulgent lifestyle so learning he'd donated the property along with the funds to maintain it was a bit surprising. I suppose it could be an endeavor to ensure his lasting legacy rather than acting out of a sense of philanthropy. I'd like to think that if more people were able to fund their dreams that a good portion of those dreams would involve actions or businesses beneficial to people, animals, or the planet rather than merely revelling in wretched excesses.
