Didn’t hear about CNN+ until it was put out that it was getting shutdown. It seems like we are doing away with cable tv and moving into an era of subscription based streaming but if they are already struggling with their cable tv programming it seems like it was deemed to fail from the beginning especially with people already paying for multiple subscriptions and just adding another doesn’t seem like it would be worth it.

It's clockwork: new technology creates a cheap alternative to an established system, it becomes profitable, the big wallets put their hands in the pot, the new system gains public favor and oversaturation, and the people who try to cash in late get bit in the ass. That's where we got oil alternatives, Bitcoin, private cable companies, electric cars, smartphones, mobile app copycats, all of kids entertainment, and everything else. And eventually some big player gets that ass bite and serves as a cautionary martyr for a scenario that's gonna replay in about 30-50 years. Edit: punctuation

The fact independent podcasts and youtube channels get more attention than "mainstream" news outlets is extremely telling as to why journalists are constantly freaking out. If they were not informational fronts for corporate and political power they would not exist.

Yeah, yeah, yeah... That old BS argument, again. Thank God for truely independent KZbinrs, who would NEVER take sponsorships or EVER lie to their audience or make a fuss about something minor to get more attention/views/money. Besides: If the news outlets went away, all news KZbinrs would go away INSTANTLY, too.

99% of journalists are lazy. They don’t know how to get out and do the real dirty work like in the old days! They get no respect for me. They get paid by Blackrock or Blackstone.. @@GPT-4_Beta He never said they were better his simply stating the absolute poor state of journalism these days. Btw i agree with you, KZbinrs are often just as moany and idiotic as journalists. Especially anti- SJW and leftist channels they are two sides of the same coin. Also most KZbin channels, Political Twitch streamers and Podcasts make a living off of reading and citing the same mainstream outlets that they like to harp on about it's honestly sad.
@volvo09
@volvo09 2 жыл бұрын
@@GPT-4_Beta of course everyone can be biased and some people are easily bribed to push narratives, but it's a lot easier in corporate news. As much as I dislike CNN, I don't even think they wanted to talk about the prior president practically non stop for 4 years straight.... That's a clear agenda pushed by management. And people tuned out, just like people would tune out from a KZbinr (some would stay because it supports their view). I view all corporate media as lobbyists. Except rather than lobbying political figures for support, they are pushing narratives out to the public to raise support or block support. Big media has always been the gatekeeper of information by spiking stories or not covering topics or people of interest... Up until the little guys got a voice, now they're trying to reign it back in by paying these social media platforms to prop up their content, use their "fact checking" companies, favorable people in high positions, and so on. Quick final thought, a few years ago you couldn't even turn on CNN or MSNBC without hearing how terrible and corrupt Ukraine was, and now look what they're saying.

I think it failed for two reasons: 1) CNN is hardly the most trusted name in news. They can't get eyeballs when it's packaged with cable channels that people do want to watch, so the idea that people would pay anything for just CNN content is misguided 2) _News_ should be a _feed_ ; _entertainment_ can be a _library_ . The purpose of a streaming service is to allow subscribers to watch on-demand, which is fine with content with a long shelf life and re-watch value. But news has a very short shelf life and almost no re-watch value, so having a catalog of it is not worth browsing for free, let alone paying for

Yes there are biased opinions on CNN, but on the other end of the spectrum Fox lies so much that in a court room their lawyers said to protect themselves that they are not news, they are entertainment and anybody that believes it as news is an idiot. That’s fox’s own words about their own viewers… who believed every word said and tried to over throw the government with a coup.

They have alot of passive viewership already(just being played in the background in places like airports) and the most dedicated cable news viewers are the elderly so eventually they are going to just die and it doesn't look like CNN or other cable news channel can bring in younger generations. Cable news channels in the US in particular are entertainment channels first and not news channel, outrage and conflict helps drive viewership good hardworking objective reporting on issues their advertisers and political guests don't like isn't something they focus on. If people want political content they can get it on youtube, spotify etc. for free with less pontificating and self-righteousness. And their most fervent and older viewers probably don't use streaming services as much.

And talked about extending vaccine mandates to kids, all while most of Europe has lifted restrictions and half the US states have zero mandates. This is , I think, the reason for the massive decline in the following of world news media ; they are no longer disseminating news ;, rather merely voicing their opinions on world events. In the old days, news media printed hard news and limited the opinions of their publication to the editorial article in the newspaper. Today, it is virtually all editorial opinion .

Sadly, when you say that "in the old days..." yeah, more objective news were pushed, but the media has always had an agenda. After printing so much money since the start of 2020 cashing inflation. Hearing a news network based on politics offering a subscription just won’t cut it. Idk which one. CNN, FOX. The only one I might consider is NBC universal because they have other shoes than just the news

What media these days isn’t partisan and biased? I’m guessing you think fox is fair and balanced?

& I bet this comment comes from a FOX News follower. I don't understand why the FCC can't do something more about that Fake ass news channel. They've spread lies, & should be on trial themselves. They were just as much to blame as Trump & his a his goons. & to mention CNN personnel personal demons, what about FOX & all of their racist bigots, & the many perverts of both races getting paid off?
