Dan I have a question for you, do you believe that people should simply not go to college and learn what you need independently, or do you believe that people should evaluate college as an investment; time and money to develop a skillset that you need or at least believe you need to be successful in whatever field you choose? For example I believe business degrees to be crap, I say that because I feel like learning 'business' in an academic setting is like trying to learn how to play a sport in a lecture hall, it doesn't work, but what about something like Engineering or Science? Assuming that this is what you want to do, is it not preferable that a person should then go to college with the mindset that you are going there to develop a skillset in order to create superior value than can be done without that skillset? For example the hedge fund manager Jim Simons, he's an extremely accomplished mathematician who ended up using that skillset to develop his investment business and build a net worth >$20 Billion.

Dan Lok is awesome! "Massive Bank Account" is one of the best lines I've ever heard. As an entrepreneur, I enjoy what I do and have always had a few irons in the fire. I will say this about education: If you don't pick up skills in college that serve you for the rest of your life, it is THEN that you wasted your $. Part of the pursuit of higher education is to foster a mindset that transforms you; it's also to expose you to the finer points of disciplines that are of interest to you, develop spheres of influence among peers and share ideas. The real issue with college for the past couple of decades is that far too many "students" aren't there to learn anything. They're only there for the paper, so they game the system, cut corners, graduate and become useful idiots who eventually fall victim to the Peter Principle in whatever profession they fall into. Laziness has created a false standard. Granted, the K-12 education system as a whole is basically crap in the U.S It is set up to indoctrinate - teaching "what" to think as opposed to "how." True, if educators wanted to turn out masses of thinking individuals they would start by teaching logic in grade school.

Dan I absolutely love how you have the balls to swear in your videos, barely no one else does that anymore on youtube bc. of demonetization. it helps getting your point across very much, not kidding. please dont stop doing that.
@docpringle57416 жыл бұрын
When I was younger, I never dared to use any swearing word, in any context. I was just too polite, too educated into fitting in the system, and you know, good people don't swear. It's only in my graduate studies (I know right - thankfully it wasn't too expensive in my country) that I came to acknowledge that, whether people swear or not it just does not matter. Actually, I see it now, so many things in society's ideals on what you should do not only don't matter, but lead to a poor life someone else wants for you. Only personal fulfillment, and actions leading to results do. So I interpret that as just fucking liberating. Fun thing, assuming about $1 missed monetization per 1000 views (best grosstimation I could find so far), with around 37M total views on Dan's channel, that's about 37k$. After 4 YEARS of work growing this channel. For high quality videos. (heck, what an incredible density of actual valuable, *concrete* knowledge in these!) No wonder he swears lol! Which makes me think Dan is really generous making this gold mine free for all to pick into. Or maybe it's part of that "PMP" concept I've heard in another video (still new to this channel). Or perhaps both :)

There is only one reason why someone might ask if you have any credentials: They don't TRUST you enough yet, and they are looking to mentally "decrease their risk" of working with you. I have "ChFC" after my name because I was in a banking environment and wanted to advance my career in financial advising. (It stands for "Constantly Having to Find Commissions".) It's the only credential I have (and I'm glad I have it). But no one calls me because of "ChFC". I may get another one or two credentials... but not because "I need it", but purely if I want them.

For the most part, you are right, I have many acquaintances/colleges that went to a useless college, especially in these management fields where a degree helps you with ... nothing. What I find horrible is that in many "1st world" countries you also have to pay a lot of money for college, which throws so many people in debt as a result. At the very least in Romania it's free for the most part, and chances are, that in medicine or even in computer science, a degree helps you big time in landing a better job, from which you can gain valuable experience before building your business with what you are supposed to learn while developing yourself on this 9 to 5 period. In fact, if you love what you do, you may even get some money for your good results. I personally won about 4000$ at my college and a job at a corporation which is not so bad as a start. If you never plan to become a 9-to-5'er, however, there is obviously no point in getting a degree, no matter the subject that you study. Considering how many resources you can find online/on books/from people nowadays, a college can never outpace a well structured learning discipline no matter what and that's a fact, only when you realise that this "one fit for all" system can not end up with greatness on the students side.

As a person ventures from a five figure salary to six figures and changes tax brackets how does one find out tax breaks to avoid giving all your money to the IRS. A single man without kids in Florida gets taxed 18% or more! I have not made my first Six Figure year YET. But you teach "the rich think about the future while the poor think about Saturday." This is great information as always, thanks Sifu! On the flipside, if you think that college is the next step in your career and you want to do it, then go ahead. Just don't assume that once you have a college degree, the world will bow to your will. There are many paths to entrepreneurship, just avoid accumulating debt and keep learning every day especially after getting your degree. A smart person getting a degree will remain smart, an idiot going to college remains an idiot. I highly recommend that you check out other successful people's opinions on college besides Dan. Mark Cuban the billionaire would be a good example. We are fortunate to have access to lectures and advice from successful people on KZbin for free. I got a degree in biology. Learned in 4 years that I was good at talking about science but not actually doing it. Learned from college I was great at drawing a crowd and speaking and have others follow. Now I work at geico selling homeowners insurance and do real estate photography on the side. I’m a top seller but I just started. The money is great but more will come and learning everyday. My question is this: I know my high income skill is my ability to talk and sell and show value in anything, but I’m a bit lost on how to provide this in the marketplace.
