Genius! I've been in business for many years and thought being the best was the way to success as word would spread. When the fact is spending a little less time perfecting and more time spreading the word would be way more valuable.

i think it requires a mix of both, being the book when you actually deliver it (moment of truth) and offcourse marketing it really well so you are percieved as great

3:45-3:55 Man.....that hits home. I always focused on BEING the best. This clip explains the importance of perception of being the best and how and why I need to consider that more than I have in the past. I tended to think like it wasn't being genuine if I worried about perception, like it was an unscheduled annoyance taking me away from skills development and somehow lying if I was perceived as the best without being the best. Video is good food for thought.

Dan you are absolutely right. Its the perception that people have in you that is key in being successful. It reminds me of when Bill Gates was a student at Harvard and how he and Paul Allen saw an opportunity in the Altair 8800 machine after reading about it in the January 1975 issue of Popular Electronics. They believed that the price of computers would soon drop to the point that selling software for them would be a profitable business. So they contacted the founder of the company that made the Altair (Ed Roberts) and told him they were developing an interpreter and asked if he would like to see it. Now mind you they had no idea if it would work like they thought and they never even saw or used the machine physically but they still used what they had to develop it and give the sales pitch. The amazing thing was when this conversation happened they didn't even have anything just an idea. But they had a strong believe in making it and getting it to work. They ended up using Harvards PDP-10 computer to create it and mind you Harvard wasn't to happy about it. But they didn't have any policy about this so they used what they had where they were at. Then they used some timesharing service in Boston to complete the BASIC programming debugging and hires another Harvard student to write some other features that weren't offered by anyone else to help seal the deal.Paul Allen was sent because he was older. Bill thought they would take them more serious if they saw him then just some kid. But their belief and hard work paid off which help them to start Micro-Soft (Microsoft today). Plus they even got a free unit to do their work on after they presented it. They did exactly what you mentioned. They gave a perceived appearance of being the best because no one else had anything and ran with it and crushed it. Its amazing to see how successful even a kid could be with a dream and a desire to be successful in life. Plus, so many other company's started in peoples homes and garages grew to huge size and finance on the belief in themselves and the belief others had in their dreams and desires. Another awesome lecture on helping people be more successful in their life and cut the limitation factors many of us deal with that hold us back. Top Shelf video.

Damn. Not only the concepts and ideas you teach are just amazing (next level) but the way and with the belief you say is just convincing and life-changing. And totally true - people CAN NOT see your service, so they judge you by what they CAN see. PERCEPTION of showing that you are the best sells more than actually being the best. We can see the truth in the world when companies have shity products and shity service but make way more money because have better marketing than those who have a really good product and services. My mind is blown. Thanks, Dan.
@XzibitCA6 жыл бұрын
People cannot judge your service so they judge you from what they can see. Perception is such an interesting thing in this world we live in. Even our perception of things or ourselves can be changed on demand due to the mental matrix we’ve all got access to that intertwines with the material world

In one of your videos, you shared with us your high school experiences, of starting out by mowing lawns for people, and how that was your first business, which taught you to add value to people's lives. You also mentioned how you failed 13 businesses, before you found success. I would like to ask you, Dan Lok, on what your first passive income business was. Why did you fail 13 times before succeeding, and how did you find the drive and funding to restart all over each time you did? Your feelings, your emotions, your mindset, and the opportunities that were present at the time, is something I want to know and learn from. Thank you for your time, and keep making videos!

I have a question. I want to start a Car Audio Business but everyone around me says I would fail because it’s a dying industry. I do car audio installations as a side hustle after work and then buy salvage vehicles, fix and flip them. I’m a department manager at a grocery store and feel confident that I can run my own business. I guess I want you opinion on what you would do? How or what kind of business would you start? Maybe auto body shop and then integrate the car audio section? I know I can even be a business consultant to help turn around their business as I have turned around 3 departments in 3 different stores. Thank you in advance Boss in the Bentley!

My biggest takeaway from this video is the goal to build a great reputation with the market because people "brag" about their relationship (whether it's attending an event or buying and using a product), which passes your name around to others you may never have reached to before and a positive reputation can be a strong player in attracting more sales or leads, and ultimately could land you or your business with opportunities above competitors.

Thank you very much for this video Dan. Reputation is a big thing. My big question is, how do you build a reputation where it’s been tarnished? As a musician, I saw big names like J.Cole and Drake leave their hometown, get recognized in another city (or country) and now their cities pretty much immortalize them. Is it like that or something deeper?

So many companies that are being perceived as the best but are not. They have less quality in them compared with the true best that have higher quality but do not sell as much. We can see that in so many different companies (watches, clothing, cars, etc). There isnt a need to be the best but indeed be perceived as it. Although working theire way to achieve the true best as they are earning enought to let them upgrade can be the best way for a long living company. Start as being preceived as the best and during the process become best in order to never fall against the bests that can one day be perceived as so.

Arrogant is more akin to an undeserved sense of superiority. I know Mr. Lok talked in a previous video that your confidence will advertise you better than anything else. You want to be sure of yourself. If you aren't sure of yourself, how can I have confidence in you as a customer? As Dan said in a previous video: you don't have to be a master of your skill, you just need to be more experienced than me, the customer, who has no experience. You just need to be competent in your field. My best selling line was "It costs a pretty penny to hire a professional, but it costs you dearly to hire an ameture" when I was working as a logo and business identity consultant and designer. I would pick the brain of my client to see their dream, and with that information I would use my knowledge to help them craft a look for their company in order to attract their desired demographic. I would look for a business that displayed their name in black text on a white background, I would ask if they had business cards, and after seeing that they only communicate with text and not visual appeal I would tell them that I could set them above their competition and bring in many, many more new customers by giving them the image of a 5 star franchise through a revamp of their logo, business cards, menus, and so forth. They are apprehensive at first, but I would talk with them and give them the assurance that their resulting profits would overshadow any price I could charge, and I was never wrong.
