I think it really depends what you want to do. If you want to be a web dev, app dev you don’t really need to go to college. If you want something more advance like machine learning, data science, anything with advancing computing and mathematics involve CS degree would definitely help. You can can be a Quant developer that requires to have to math background and some coding skills

You've been such an inspiration for me Chris Sean, I'm the black sheep of my family. I'm the one that's supposed to fail, but I'm working my ass off every day learning to code. I got so much shit my entire life for not going to college, and once I get my first developer job I'm wearing the college dropout shirt with Bill Gates on it everywhere I fucking go. Your videos really help me out, and I probably wouldn't have tried if it wasn't for you. "You must understand that there is more than one path to the top of the mountain” -Miyamoto Musashi

Shit. 45K a year? That’s more than what I am getting paid here in Retina company that makes millions. I am in admin, no college degree, but moved up quickly and still under pay. Hearing the fact that you were starting off around that range is more than enough for me to prosper in my personal life. Coding is something I have been eye balling for quite sometime, perhaps all of this year.

I like how you brought up how people often think college is the only path you can take to become successful. What's sad is oftentimes people will be measuring your intelligence, or how good you can be at something only by your education level, which imo is ridiculous.
@lepidoptera9337 Жыл бұрын
I have never seen anybody above the worker level without college and university education in companies that I worked for. PhD counts for five years of industry experience, for instance. Masters counts for zero. HR isn't measuring your intelligence at all. They leave that to your college and university professors. Oh, wait... you didn't have any? Too bad, because now HR would have to make a risky bet on you that will backfire if you turn out to be a lemon. Guess what? They don't give a frell about making that mistake just because you have those beautiful non-college educated blue eyes. If, however, you have a PhD from Harvard and you turn out to be a turd, everybody will just shrug and say... "But he had a PhD from Harvard! We could not possibly know that he would turn out to be useless!" and then they will move on without any consequences to their own careers. Now, that you don't know that tells us all we need to know about both your IQ and EQ. You can't even tell why people are doing the things the way they are doing them. Grow up, kid. ;-)

I graduated with a CS degree and really question if college was really for me, it was something I really pushed myself for. I feel stuck in ML because my year of experience in it is all I have, but those jobs often want an MS or PhD. I don't see my grades good enough to get into a grad program, so I kind of question if tech was really the move considering the only jobs are asking for 3+ years of experience.

if you see jobs asking around 3 years experience i would still apply for those jobs as a lot of times those are just the perfect person they are looking for. if you meet about 60% of what they are looking for apply for the job.

@@chrisseantalks Haha ikr. It's hard to explain. I have done full stack applications with php mysql a lil less than a decade ago. Then I got into making mincraft servers/communities for about 3 years.. Just jumped into react and everything connects but I can't exactly explain how. I also can't do a whole lot without Google. I can build anything confidently. But I am learning to build from scratch. That's the word for it. Coding from scratch. The ability to make a calculator for ex without needing Google. Those types of things I am trying to develop.

I'm a multiple time college dropout too, now an experienced backend developer. I also hated school, the late-diagnosed ADHD didn't help. Now with treatment and support, I'm completing my comp sci degree part-time at a self-paced, accredited online school, since it eliminates most of the things I didn't like about brick and mortar school (the inflexibility). At this point, I'm only getting it to have the option to live and work outside of the US if I want to. And no student loans this time, it's out-of-pocket between me and my employer 🙌🏾 School still sucks though and I can't wait until I'm done lol

I love your content. But I feel like the message about your friend in school was alittle misworded. You said while you was making money she was in school learning. But how was you making money when you didn't know how to code?
