great vid, was waiting for you to talk about sambo, i would also add that judo, and other arts influenced by judo such as combat sambo practice break falls a lot from the get go to prevent the concusive elements as much as they can, I would also say that the largest advantage combat sambo has over other other grapling systems is that they focus a lot on ground and pound, that changes everything thanks for the vid man

You are not wrong about sport bjj mainly trains without strikes but old school gracie bjj you do learn from day one to clinch with strikes and on the floor with strikes there number one aspect of training is training with strikes its all about self defense first now sport bjj is all about sport. I train old school self defense first gracie jiu-jitsu and from day one u learn to deal with strikes holds headlock etc. You also learn basic strikes/kicks as well. There way is cover yourself clinch cover yourself from strikes take down cover yourself from strikes get to a dominant position protect yourself from strikes control then submit thst is the basics. If it doesn't work with strikes then its not to be added to traditional old school self defense grscie jiu-jitsu

Thank you for making this video!!! I take kyokushin right now and I'm a brown belt in bjj so I was curious if taking sambo was a worthwhile endeavor. It sounds like since I didn't start early I should just stick with bjj for now till I get my black belt then head for an mma gym. Thank you!

Mike A: I sense the black belt is a personal goal for you since at brown belt, you already know more than enough BJJ to fight MMA. At purple you had all the submissions you would need. No one will tell you, but fighters were no more than purple belt in their PRIME!

that was one of the things that disappointed me a lot of ONE championchip, they have done very interesting things, i love their ruleset for mma, actually a prefer it over ufc or bellator, and muay thai with mma gloves is awsone to watch, (wish they used mma gloves for kick boxing too) but my main issue with them is that they added grappling "fighters" but no ground and pound is allowed, what kind of bullshit is that??? it`s just jiujitsu in a fucking cage!! wonder who wins that crap... i would have been very interested is seeing something that removed the stand up striking, but ones one of the competitors hit the ground they could use ground and pound. that would have been very interesting. but we know most jiu jitsu competitors would no do that. shame...

They did the same passing the " BJJ hope" from Bj Penn to Nick Diaz both crushed by GSP's wrestling. Nobody really want to admit what they saw. Even when Colby Covington defeated Damian Maia.

Dear Sayf, I know you don't do the reason infusion videos anymore and communism is a buzzword on the internet right now but, I would like to know your opinion on these kinds of things considering you brought up state funded sports. I personally would've loved to have an opportunity like that when I was younger and seeing as how we (especially young black men) often try to use sports as a means of economic improvement I'd love to know your opinion on state funded sports as a function of communism? I feel professional athletes don't get a ground level of support in capitalistic systems but, if you're the best, as well as the most popular, your ceiling is for earning is much higher. On the other hand without the support system, and equality of opportunity we maybe stunting the competitive growth pool of athletes. Almost all sports with the exception of maybe MMA are in a silver when it comes to athletic performance because of the money involved. I know that you have a personal history with communism as well. I'm always wanting opinions on these types of issues from people who are older and wiser than myself with more experience. Especially because modern discourse ultimately is unintelligible ends with people arguing who is the bigger fascist. I personally don't have any investment in leaning left or right sociopolitically. I think sambo is better than Brazilian Jujitsu to but Charles looked a little bit out of it to me.I think it's because of his eye surgery maybe some sort of perception difference. because of how blind he used to be but I still think Islam will win but just a bit more competitive .I can't wait for the rematch.

Its always been this way in the US. Martial arts has always been looked down upon and has only been supported AFTER its proven its worth. Then it slowly gets watered down for the sake of money and safety. Clearly this does not foster an environment that helps martial artists. All someone would have to do is look at the origins of modern wrestling. Wrestlers were part of traveling carnivals as part of the freak show. Yes a wrestler was looked down upon so much he had to be part of carne freak shows in America. It was immoral on social and religious reasons as crazy as that sounds. This is also just after the civil war so their was a anti violence sentiment that is with us to this day. Carne wrestlers were usually people we were destitute civil war vets wrestling people to prove their "freak" strength. Truth is the knew a thing or two about wrestling art in their day and could easily bully the untrained. Its the origins of making someone say "uncle" started as they did open challenges to audiences for cash. Its also why American martial arts has so much clout chasing, hype making, sensationalism, drama and general charisma games. Martial arts were never respected on their merits alone and had to be a actor while being a fighter. its when "the work" started happening because they needed to set up the audience for the show. Trick marks into losing cash or better yet thinking they could actually beat a wrestler with no training. People think the meme of "wrestling is fake" is related to modern tv wrestling but actually its older than tv itself due to wrestlers setting up audiences at traveling carnivals and setting up fixed matches. The sad reality is the audience never respected wrestling on its own. It had to have theater mixed in. it was perfected in the wrestling territories era of US history. Most did it to survive. think of all the fixed carne game that to this day people play even though its been designed to be nearly impossible to win. Now add the mechanics of wrestling to the mentality of a desperate carne to make money to make it to the next town. They also did it to get rich quick. The name escapes me but there was an infamous carne work where a wrestler went to a gold rush and worked as a miner. Would get "drunk" after work, challenge everyone to wrestling and win. He threw a fight the moment the carne came to the mining town. Made a killing tricking all those miners out of their gold. TV just cemented the antics and blew it out of proportion. Its always been this way sadly. Imagine if America actually fostered martial arts? Who knows how our culture would have been. With modern social medias knack for hyping drama I dont think we will get out of this quagmire of micky mouse BS for at least anther generation. TLDR look up the history of US martial arts.

There's only two guys that stand out from the same camp. You are not seeing all these other sambo guys be that dominant. First it was BJJ. Because nobody knew how to defend against it. Then it was wrestling that was considered dominant. Now Sambo is all the clamor. Although Fedor trained Sambo it was his toughness and boxing that made him who he was.

Sambo is NOT the clamor since people like you are still in denial as to wrestling dominating it. As for Fedor only being tough because he boxed, it is ridiculous to say boxing made him who he was!
