Love that Cody hated Order 66, not because it involved betraying the generals he loyally served for years, but simply because having received it 10 seconds earlier would have made it easier for carry out. 😂

Depends on the version In legends? They 100% knew and clones themselves without being led by the hand like toddlers by Jedi were absolute psychopaths. In the current canon? It's the chips but most of the clones still wouldn't have cared only the ones that were true mavericks would actually fight against the programming most of which were either younger newer model clones or where members of the 501st legion which specialized in being extremely "free willed" Codys one of the few clones who's both in legends and in the new canon...pretty sure this tidbit is from legends where he is an extremely minor character and is only in novels and extended universe material In the current canon we do get to see how Cody reacts and it's as you expect from a loyal soldier and leader He couldn't resist it so he's completely heartbroken but he understands he's a soldier and "good soldier follow orders" so he throws himself into his work to try and get over it....hes among the first clones "retired" Don't quite me I am not a reliable source I could be wrong about a lot of this If you wanna see more of the absolutely monstrous clones both the original clone wars series shows how deadly efficient they are and starwars battlefront IIs (2005) campaign shows alot of the mindset with you playing as unnamed soldiers from the 501st

@@mrzirak792 so is that why sidious and dooku freaked out when the chips were almost discovered? Why care if the clones woul kill the jedi without them? The clones value loyalty the most so they know loyalty when they see it, the jedi unlike the other generals were always down at the battlefield risking their lives alongside the clones, with sheer willpower rex resisted shooting ashoka because he wasn't the one that wanted to kill her, if loyalty to the Chancellor came first then ashoka would've been dead. It was the chip that wanted to kill her.

Pretty sure this is old canon, before the idea of inhibitor chips were even conceived. In the old canon before The Clone Wars show, all of the clones in the Grand Army of The Republic, at least the higher up clones, already knew they were going to kill the Jedi at some point. They just didn't know when the order would be given. Some of them were starting to have issues with the thought of stabbing the Jedi in the back considering they were beginning to get close with their Jedi generals, but inevitably they obeyed the call when Chancellor Palpatine gave the go-ahead.

It still holds up. He knows he has to follow orders (probably cant resist it for long anyway, and that's just HIM), and he can still have the hatred for the timing. I mean, he had NO problem with it, OTHER than if it came sooner, it would have been easier with an unarmed target.

I like the inhibitor arc, it made it a lot easier to swallow why the clones would betray their Jedi, especially when with killing padawans. I mean most Jedi treated the clones fairly well, and several including Yoda and Anakin showed how valuable their lives were. I mean Anakin was with Rex trying to help Fives, before he was killed, and Yoda straight up told the clones how valuable their lives were when they offered to buy him time to escape, another Jedi even gave his life fighting a bunch of drones to allow people, including the clones to get to safety.

@@Shadowgod1000 the Jedi and clones weren't as close in Legends as they are in Canon. I love the Legends version more, but I also understand why the Canon version is the way it is. Both versions are tragic in their own ways. The clones in both Canon and Legends are slaves to Palpatine, just in different ways. Both versions of them were forced into a galactic war they were never asked for. Clones from Canon are victims to the inhibitor-chips while clones from Legends are slaves to their indoctrination and genetic modification. So in general: In Canon, the inhibitor-chips exist as a failsafe to make sure every clone carries out Order 66 while in Legends they don't exist at all since they are not necessary. Canon Clones and Legends Clones have different paths in their lives: In both continuities, the Jedi Order starts out feeling uncomfortable with the blind obedience in the clones. The thing is, they take different approaches to this issue. In Legends, most Jedi keep a professional relationship with the clones, which does nothing to counter the dislike the clones have to the Jedi for being too peaceful. In this case, it makes sense for the clones to unhesitatingly follow Order 66 because in a way there is no choice other than the state. They are conscious of what they're doing, but with the exception of Arc-troopers and Clone Commandos, what reason do Legends Clones have to betray the state they swore loyalty to for leaders they don't like? That's why most Jedi and Clones struggled to bond with each other during the Clone Wars. In Canon, the Jedi instead try to influence the clones. They teach them to be more human and more independent thinkers. They have close friendships with them. The Jedi and Clones become comrades. Now, would some Canon Clones still carry out Order 66 by their free will? Yes. Just look at Dogma and Crosshair before they realize their mistakes. However, wouldn't most Canon Clones hesitate to kill their Jedi leaders before following orders, thus alerting the Jedi? I mean, the clones were even reluctant to execute Pong Krell, an actual traitor who hated clones. Dogma had to do it and felt like he needed to justify himself right afterwards. Canon and Legends are just too different despite their similarities. The clones from both continuities started out the same, but turn out to be different in the end. They only become more humanized in Canon while in Legends they (naturally) remain much more droid like and much more unquestionably receptive to Palpatine's orders.

According to the old lore, before the invention of the chips, none of the Clones hesitated. But just like the lore changed, and now Captain Rex and Ahsoka exists as characters, so too are the depictions of the Clones seen the films up to question. As many clones now hesitated for a second or grabbed their helmets for a second as their chips activated and took over. And seeing how close Cody was to OB1, I wouldn't be surprised if they released a comic or an animated version where Cody resisted for longer before executing the order. Hopefully, we get to see a flash back or it's elaborated on in the BB show.

It would b like giving a predator his plasma cannon right before the last alien is killed and you're still begrudgingly working together. Then as soon as the aliens are gone u become his new target since you survived against them, which would make you the next worthy target the predator would want to hunt.

Cody’s lack of hesitation is why Rex is better. Being serious though, when ROTS was made, I don’t think they gave too much thought into the Clones resisting the order at all, and I don’t know if they had planned for the many of the Clones to have developed as strong a fellowship with their generals. The Clone Wars TV show may also have sorta affected how strong the order actually was for the Clones, I can’t really say with my own knowledge. My head canon for the strong switch of loyalty (pre-Season 7 of CW) was that all of their memories were jumbled up and all of their positive experiences with the Jedi were altered to seem like negative, potentially scary ones. Not sure if that has much basis in actual canon however.

Honestly I Never liked the idea that the clone were forced to kill the jedi. I always prefer the legend version where… they are just soldier from birth, they only lived to serve and die for the republic, they were Never taught by the kaminoan to just « be human », only a body and a gun. and in the end, their loyalty was stronger than their respect for the jedis. For me it’ s far more tragic than « somehow they have a chip »

Yeah. I absolutely agree with you. The Jedi use a slave army of genetically identical men with only limited independence, but being extremely good in their roles as soldiers, to fight the separatists during the Clone Wars and relied on them over time. They feel uncomfortable with the blind obedience in the clones but become dependent on them since the Jedi cannot fight the separatist droid armies and militias alone. I think in the EU, clones did not form bonds with the Jedi so easily, the majority at least. So most Jedi and their clone legions only keep a professional relationship during the course of the Clone Wars, which does nothing to counter the dislike the clones have to the Jedi and that's why they unhesitatingly follow Order 66 because there is no other choice for them than the state. I mean the clones don't betray the Republic they swore loyalty to for leaders they do not like that much. Only few clones and Jedi were really close to each other, such as Aayla Secura and Commander Bly, so in this case, Bly and his men from the 327th Star Corps killed her as quickly and painlessly as possible as they didn't want her to suffer. The clones were basically sleeper agents for the Sith. They showed up extremely conveniently at the beginning of a galactic wide war without any knowledge of the Jedi Order beforehand and the Jedi were tricked into leading them into battle, thinking the separatists and their droid army were the Sith-cause and due to their arrogance and blindless not realizing that the Sith (Chancellor Palpatine) in actuality were leading both sides the whole time. The reason Count Dooku publicly revealed/showed himself as a Sith is to misdirect the Jedi. Even if the clones were more like organic droids and more receptive to orders, some of them still expressed some sort of individuality as exemplified by their penchant for using nicknames among their brothers instead of their standard alpha numeric designations as well as later in the Clone Wars sporting different hairstyles and even tattoos. These type of clones were often viewed as oddities. The clone army fought alongside the Jedi for 3 years but in reality served Chancellor Palpatine. By orchestrating the Clone Wars and making public think the Jedi were the true villains of the Clone Wars who brought chaos to the galaxy, trying to overthrow the government and having just survived a Jedi ambush in his office against 4 Jedi masters, he tricked everyone, especially the Clone army into thinking the Jedi really betrayed them and that's what makes him so much smarter in Legends than relying on some brain-chips like in TCW. He manipulated both parties, the Jedi and the clone army and when Order 66 was issued, both the clones and the surviving Jedi each felt betrayed by each other and none of them (really) realized that they were actually manipulated by the same guy. And because of the kind of relationship the Jedi and their clones had, the clones don't become as much humanized as in TCW and (naturally) remain much more droid like and unquestionably receptive to Palpatine's orders. In the EU, the clones had free will, because they weren't brainwashed and mind-controlled but indoctrinated (take the people of North Korea as a real life example, they have free will seeing they aren't mind controlled but they are thought to obey and don't know how not to). They were also genetically modified to be more obedient and less independent than Jango Fett (as mentioned in AOTC). So it's in their genes to obey the chain in command above everything else, which is of course Chancellor Palpatine. From birth, the clones were trained to be one cohesive unit and fully dependent on a command structure. So if a higher ranking officer gave them an order, they followed it. But they were able to think negatively of the order but they were so indoctrinated that they just followed orders due to them not realizing they had the choice to disobey. This is why Palpatine actually made the Jedi generals during the Clone Wars, because simply said the Jedi were arrogant and were terrible at leading armies. The bad choices of many Jedi led to a large number of pointless casualties. And mistakes aside the Jedi were more then willing to sacrifice clone lives seeing they were considered less seeing they were not part of the natural order of the force. Because of these character flaws and lack of military experience the clones started to resent them and were more eager to execute their orders (and the jedi). They were pushed their whole life to memorize the 150 contingency orders they were taught during their training on Kamino, including Order 66, besides their training to prepare for the battlefield and in combat. When Palpatine issues Order 66, he doesn't explain the details of the order. He gives it and expects every clone commander to know about it. in "Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader - Part II: The Emperor's Emissary" Vader is even tasked to hunt down Clones that disobeyed. In it Palpatine says: "Contagion brought about by fighting alongside the Jedi for so many years. Clone or otherwise, there is only so much a being can be programmed to do. Sooner or later even a lowly trooper will become the sum of his experiences". This was especially true amongst the Arc-Troopers and Clone commandos, who were less heavily indoctrinated so they can function more independently than regular clone troopers when cut off from the command structure. They were also bred with more independent genes and had a more intensive training for their roles during the Clone Wars, which allowed them to act more as individuals. ARC-troopers were designed to be the closest copies of Jango Fett himself. They inherited his skills, combat prowess, and even his independent thinking to a certain extent. Back to the regular clones: An inhibitor-chip from TCW can be removed from a clone's brain and he will suddenly disobey Order 66 but in the EU, indoctrination (and also genetic modification) since birth is very difficult/challenging to overcome. The key point is that the clones in reality were never on the Jedi's side. They were, like I mentioned, sleeper agents for the Sith. Hardly any of them were independent. The clones in the old Canon were still slaves, just not in the way TCW and the new Canon presented it with the inhibitor-chips. The standard clones were still human beings with pain and thoughts. Some of them even regretted executing their Jedi generals. But due to their strict conditioning during their time on Kamino, they are mentally unable to escape the chain in command and can't think of a life outside of the army and their orders. The Republic is everything they live and fight for and when Order 66 was issued, the Jedi in their eyes betrayed it and they thought eliminating the Jedi was the only way to save it.

Really I don’t think it would have made a difference since Obi wan was shot by a tank and didn’t need his saber until he returned to the temple and even then he would’ve just gotten another light saber from a fallen Jedi.

Not true kenobi, and the 212st(cody) had a special bond of friendship similar to Rex and Anakin. Some people say that the walker missed on purpose to give kenobi a chance to escape. it is similar to Rex and ashoka on the venator. Don't believe everything until there is complete goes for this as well.

Well. That story with Cody receiving Order 66 a bit too late is from the Revenge of the Sith novelization, which is part of the old Canon/Legends. And since the inhibitor-chips didn't exist back than, the whole Grand Army of the Republic and Cody as well were genetically modified and heavily indoctrinated to be only loyal to the Republic and the Supreme Chancellor, not the Jedi.

Cody: oh BTW I think you'll be needing this sir (hands obiwan his saber) Obiwan: Thank you, Cody now we got a battle to win here. Cody: yes sir (receives transmission) Palptine: commander Cody. The time has come. Execute order 66 Cody: Yes, sir. (Begins thinking to self) MF, seriously!? I could've kept that saber for myself.
