I knew the Konami Code before I played the game! We had like 6 friends playing two player & it was amazing how none of us felt left out. Passing those 2 controllers around was half the fun! In the 90s though we moved onto Contra Hard Corp on the Sega Genesis! That might be my favorite Contra game ever! Just got the Contra Collection for the Switch & it has all my favorite Contra games on it!! Didn't try the code for Gradius I'll have to look into that! Thanks for the Bird Seeds to fun!

Why so few views on this one? Don't people love Contra? I love Contra! I see that dead pixel on your TV has been there forever! Here's a little known Contra fact that I've tested out myself: on the base levels, level 2 and 4, if you are playing a one player game with 2 controllers plugged in they are both active in control of the game. On the base levels this allows you to press up and down at the same time (on 2 separate controllers) which allows you to duck and shoot in the middle of the wall simultaneously! Pretty cool right? I generally don't use the Konami code unless I play 2 player to allow my friend to keep up with me. Last time I played I beat the game 2.5 times on the alloted continues, no code, and the second playthrough was deathless until the Energy Zone! Damn that level 6! Pretty much the only thing preventing me from completing the game on one life! The Arcade version is interesting, too, as the last four levels, from Snow Field on, are all one continuous level. One time I was able to beat the arcade version, but it ain't no walk in the park and my game usually ends in the Snow Field there.

It's probably because this is such an old video. My older videos tend to have less views.

I didn’t own this as a kid, and I’m pretty sure my best friend didn’t either. However, one of my brothers friends brought his Nintendo tapes over and this was one of the games. I played it, loved it… but didn’t get very far. Later, I visited my cousins house and one of his friends had a Nintendo and not only had this, but he knew about the Konami code. We beat the game Co-op the first time and it blew my mind. After we beat it, to show off, he showed us he could beat it without the code and we were all really impressed. I did have Life Force which had the Konami code, and I played the heck out of that game. I did get to a point where I could beat that without the code.

The Japanese version (aka. Gryzor) is even better. It included Konami's custom VRC2 chip which essentially increased the system RAM and allowed for extra content like cut scenes and animated backgrounds. Because of hardware differences this chip would not work with the NES architecture and was omitted from releases outside Japan.

Contra was the first game I bought with my own money. I owned it for 4 months before I found out about the code.

A few years ago I went with a friend and he picked up an NES, first game he got for it was Contra and we played it for awhile. I love quite a few NES games but I don't have one, just emulation I guess.

Luckily, it's a pretty easy console to emulate.

3:58 Golgo 13 Top Secret Episode is another example. I mean I honestly like the 360 view snippets of the game even if the layout of the city only works in an alternate dimension but it is a bit overused.

Classicvania all the way. I like the fantasy vibe they give off far more than the generic anime look/feel/ vibe of symphony onward.

I will be 48 years old real soon. Yep. I have used the Konami code. Also, rest in peace Joe Hicks... My best friend growing up, we played the SHIT out of this game! I miss you man, I will see you soon.

I have the Code as a tattoo in part of the sleeve on my right arm lol. That way I know I’ve got 30x lives so I’m good to make all my poor decisions!

contra is great no doubt. Don’t need the Konami code because I played the heck out of it as a kid. What do you think of Super C?
@RetroBirdGaming
@RetroBirdGaming 5 жыл бұрын
I like that game a lot too. I haven't played it as much and I think a part of me needs to beat Contra without the code before I get really invested in that one. I've beaten Contra III, and I even enjoy the overhead stages in that one.

Makes me sad because I grew up with a SNES at others homes and a n64 at mine. Nothing wrong with that as the n64 is my favorite console but I just have such little experience with the NES. I love it but I still haven't got my hands on one and I can't wait until I do so I can play all these amazing games it has. I can just play them on NSO I'm sure but I don't like not having original hardware If I did play though I would have to beat it without the Konami code

Pretty fun, but I have no nostalgia for it. I didn't play it as a kid at all. Hardly anyone I knew had a NES, and the people who did, didn't have Contra. We mostly played the Commodore 64 and Master System. I don't use codes.
