Resident Evil: Code Veronica was multiplatform, but I rarely see people discussing it. It was a next gen sequel to RE 1,2, & 3, with classic tank controls, no reused assets, and real 3d backgrounds. It got completely overshadowed by RE 4.
@corey22327 ай бұрын
Don't worry, Resident Evil 0 was also overshadowed by RE4. Most people forget it exists. Also, Code Veronica was s Dreamcast exclusive when it launched, but got a PS2 port a year later (and GC port a couple years after that).
@NoiseRockGamer7 ай бұрын
Growing up, I felt RE2 and CV:X were my favorite of the series. Having replayed the original trilogy and the PS2 port of CV, I have to say that my initial impressions as a teen of CV were far too generous as I realized some things.. That game is laden with jank by way of far too many cluttered ladder and stair climbing animations, shorts you on ammo, the poisonous moths are baneful since they respawn when you leave the area by 1 screen and therefore cause a player to potentially waste the aforementioned precious ammo, the worst cheesable boss of a Tyrant no less and finally the backtracking is way more of a slog with less sense of accomplishment (hemostatic?) and to top it all off: STEVE. One of the most obnoxious side characters ever. The pacing is awful and the little romance Steve develops with Claire is so hurried, absurd and pathetic since his emotions are all over the place. They tried that with Leon and Ada and it still makes no sense but at least it was more cinematic and less middle school. I mean, he acts immature in every scene and it is painful with every interaction. I could go on but I digress.
@MacUser2-il2cx7 ай бұрын
It got it's time to shine on the Dreamcast first. Heck there's even a dedicated Dreamcast model for Code Veronica!
@mRibbons7 ай бұрын
@@NoiseRockGamer I'm not saying the game is S tier or even A tier. I only brought it up in context of the video. Being on Dreamcast, a lot of people missed it by default. Years later, its PS2 release saw around 1.2 million global sales, whereas RE1 GameCube remake and RE Zero both quadrupled those numbers. God knows how much RE4 sold. Moreover, CV came out during Dreamcast's freshman lull, when developers hadn't figured it out and a lot of crappy games were being published. It got mixed reviews. My point is, CV got sandwiched between the iconic PS1 RE OT and the venerable GC RE trilogy and it's easily overlooked and forgotten. It's no my favorite by a long shot, but I think it's worth checking out for RE fans. Lololol Steve tho. He's the worst! Used to hate him, but now I think he's hilariously awful.
@NoiseRockGamer7 ай бұрын
@@mRibbons @mRibbons Fair point, but in the RE circles, I hear about CV plenty these days. I would agree that it is at least worth checking out but I would have suggested RE Gaiden for GBC. RE established a console presence but at that time during the transition into next gen handhelds (specifically GBA, DS, DSi) for Nintendo, I would say the GBA itself overshadowed RE Gaiden and no shch title would exist until the DS/DSi with the RE port Deadly Silence. Gaiden came out around the same time as the PS2 port of CV and I would say CV itself wasn't really overshadowed by the GC remake of RE since it was a full 2 years after CV released. However, if anything was overshadowed, I would say Gaiden could have been overshadowed by the CV PS2 port having released a year before AND the GBA coming in hot to replace the GBC.

For fans of the Metal Gear franchise, I would recommend Metal Gear Acid on the PSP. It's a tactics based entry that plays more like a tactical RPG game, but it is a great entry in the franchise that often gets overlooked and is largely forgotten due to being a PSP exclusive with no remasters or ports onto any other console. But if you have a PSP and like Metal Gear. I suggest giving it a try :)

One that does come to mind is Advance Wars. People love the GBA games, but you don't hear people talking about Dual Strike on the DS that often, which sucks because its good! Good choices, but I would replace the Mega Man 8 choice with Rockman and Forte (or MM and Base) for a few reasons. 1. In spite of its flaws and glitches, it is a super fun game with great graphics, music, and replayability (collecting all 100 boss CDs). 2. It has no annoying jump-jump, slide-slide levels or campy voice acting. 3. We’re talking retro hardware here, and Rockman and Forte was a late release for the Super Famicom. I was super happy when I discovered it back in the early 2000s through emulation, and later bought the Super Fam version from Japan to play on my SNES. It’s a great game, and one that is more overlooked than MM8 because it’s not included in any modern compilations. Anyway, great vid!

It allows you to play as the antagonist of the Mega Man Legends, Tron and command her army of Servbots to score as much money as possible to save her family! There are many different types missions and you can upgrade your robots along the way! It is pretty short and sweet, but I found it to be a lot of fun!

Still got my original PS1 copy of MegaMan 8, my aunt bought it for me for my birthday. Also stumbled on a garage sale copy of the Saturn version, along with X4, years ago. Thought I had Typing of the Dead, but its apparently House of the Dead 2. I do have the keyboard though, big PSO player here. Also have that fishing rod & that model of light gun. Can't calibrate the guns to work with HotD2 unfortunately, they work perfectly fine on Virtual Cop on the Smash Pack though. For the Castlevania entry, how about I nominate Lament of Innocence. That was actually a really solid game, not groundbreaking or anything, but not a piece of garbage either. I'd say it was a solid 7.5 out of 10 game, and I know for a fact a lot of people have never played it.

I never did explore the PSP library that much...although I used to have Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X, and I wanted Mega Man: Powered Up. As for some overlooked titles, I'm definitely giving that to Contra: Shattered Soldier for the PS2. I was massively addicted to that game when it came out, and anyone who knew me at the time would see me playing it at least once. It's an awesome run and gun shooter done in the classic style but with at-the-time modern graphics, and it has an amazing soundtrack. I think it's the best of the 3D Castlevania games, because it's non-linear like Symphony Of The Night, but it really nails the 3D environments and play of later installments. I personally like the grinding, and challenge of the quest style Metroidvanias, and Curse Of Darkness that in spades, and with unlockable characters has a ton of replayability.

Final Fantasy V is a big one for me. The game was originally released for the Super Famicom in 1992, but it was never released outside of Japan until the Playstation port in 1999, and from what I've heard, it was a pretty poor localization and the constant loading screens made it a pretty bad port overall. We finally got a good release of the game for the Gameboy Advance in 2006, although by that time the DS was already out, so I doubt many people cared. Ultimately, I feel this game has really flown under the radar, which is a shame because it's great! It's my second favourite in the series (behind X)

The Japanese or MSX2 versions of Metal Gear 1 & 2 are awesome. Unmistakably Hideo Kojima and Metal Gear plot lines but told through a system with some serious constraints. Must play games for any fans of the Metal Gear and MGS, and my personal favorite over head adventure games of the era.

I’ve been going down a final fantasy hole recently the only game I’ve been playing for years is VIII but I just finished 6 and X and I’m playing through IX for the first time and I just got VII on sale (I know the highlights of 7 but never actually completed it)

I think the SEGA Genesis Mega Man Dr. Wily game was a pretty great find for me lately. It's the first 3 Mega Man games, with 3 save files in the game. Exactly what these early Mega Man games needed, right? A save file.

All these games you showed, I never heard of them or played them.
