16th century scientists had many problems accepting the Copernican theory that the Earth orbits the Sun. These problems would puzzle scientists for centuries. For more information, I highly recommend:

This is really one of the great videos I have come across. I have a question, we can see the size of moon changing at various times ( due to elliptic motion) , how did then astronomers explain this phenomena? Thanks again for the wonderful video.
@ItsJustAstronomical
@ItsJustAstronomical 2 жыл бұрын
Ancient astronomers certainly knew about the changes in the size of the moon and used this knowledge to predict eclipses. I think they would try to explain this using epicycles. You have to have very precise measurements to be able to distinguish between an elliptic motion and epicycles and I don't know that anyone really considered ellipses before Kepler.

I explained someone the way we came up with the data, spending generations to define patterns of behavior. They laughed at me, told me it didn't make sense. How else could we possibly gather real world data if not by spending generations of humans collecting the data? Go ahead now and tell me astrology isn't real; the interpretations might not be accurate because they depend on the subjective perception of the interpreter, but the fact that humans exist within a pattern is as real as the patterns every other entity follows. It's not that a planet defines you, but that generations of humans collected data about humans born under planets' consistent patterns, and in turn we can define human patterns in correlation to planetary patterns; not only behavioral but biological, physiological and psychological.
@ItsJustAstronomical
@ItsJustAstronomical Жыл бұрын
The data for astrology wasn't collected in a scientifically rigorous way. If the data is useful, it should be possible to use them to make testable predictions. Controlled experiments have not backed up the predictions of astrology. Furthermore, it's very difficult to see how the positions of planets millions of miles away would affect the lives of people on earth.

At around 4:56 you basically say that Mars returns to the same location every 687 days. That is simply not the case. In reality, Mars is observed to return to the same location on seven successive periods of around 707 days - and the eighth time in only 546 days. That's right, Mars actually has TWO vastly different sidereal periods, and they unfold like this: 707-707-707-707-707-707-707-546. Kepler (whose fraudulent maths & figures were exposed in 1988 by the translator of his "Astronomia Nova") simply averaged these 8 values to obtain his 'convenient' 687-day value. Now, the so-called 'short ESI' (Empiric Sidereal interval) of 546 days is the nail in the coffin of the Copernican model - since its geometric configuration has no rational explanation for its occurrence. All of this is thoroughly demonstrated in my 32-chapter book which is freely available at my website (which I cannot mention here since KZbin will immediately delete any comment containing its name / or URL).
