Why countries move their capital cities | Did You Know?

Overpopulation, political and ethnic tensions and security are some of the reasons countries have needed to shift capitals. Another reason would be if your city is sinking, like Jakarta is.
On top of pollution and overcrowding, land subsidence is a major issue for Indonesia’s capital city. Because there isn’t enough piped water to provide for the population, a lot of people resort to pumping up groundwater - legally and illegally. Overpumping is causing the land to sink because the groundwater aquifers aren’t being given a chance to recharge. Nearly half the city lies below sea level, so flooding is also getting worse.

I'm impressed on how this Australian reporter knows the history of the Portuguese empire moving to Rio de Janeiro to escape Napoleon in 1808. Many Brazilians don't know Brazilian history enough.

This was most interesting, but these changes have taken place in much earlier times. I am English, but with strong Danish ties. Way back in the early Middle Ages, the Capitol of Denmark was Arhus, in the far north, largely because their political, military and trade interests lay in the Baltic Sea. Later, the Capitol was transferred to Copenhagen, because Denmark's interests now lay in the west and south-west. So, for the three reasons mentioned above, it made sense to create a new Capitol (with a natural harbour), which faced west. I hope this may be of some interest.

I love and hate at the same time when a Foreign media speaks about Jakarta problem. - First the extreme poverty and dirtiness of the city is quiet high, I mean we have a good thing about Jakarta, Indonesia beside Overpopulation, Polution or How dirtiest the city is. I mean jakarta is not even that dirty, what you saw there is 'mostly' North jakarta region, North jakarta is by far the dirtiest side on jakarta. How ? its because Indonesia is like a premature born baby, We have bad garbage disposal system that encourage people to throw their garbage at river, They are like "ah just throw to river anyway, Its ain't gonna my problem anymore" and just keep over and over againt then the river just got highly poluted - Second We don't have a great water pipe system thingi, That why we're still suck up lot of water from underground because that way its become more practice. I believe we can stop this by 'reducing water sucking thing' from the underground by making a 'water recycling system' that way we can greatly stop jakarta from flooding - Third, 2:04 our countries isn't that under developed we're mostly don't used that thing to restock our water storage thing, Folks our country is not Africa tho. Finally, my vision is unfolding. I saw a vision in a dream 3 years ago, I saw the hand of the Lord moving the land of Indonesia away from the Island of New Guinea. The way he moves it was with anger, and with great power. I saw his power and the way he moves Indonesia and was afraid. As I watched, a great body of sea water came in from the ocean and quickly filled and mixed up with the body of sea water there which creates the deepest dark blue ocean which no one can survive in it. There are no signs of land or people on the that vast body of the open deep and dark-navy blue color ocean. When I awoke, the understanding of the vision came to me, which is; The Lord is separating Indonesia from the island of New Guinea. Anyone who crosses across that vast ocean will not survive but will meet God's wrath. It is happening just as I have seen it! In the near future, the island where Jakarta city is now including other small islands around it will be submerge by the deep ocean.
