I've been doing cryotherapy 2 times a week for about 18mths now. I feel so much healthier and more energetic when I go. If I have a low energy day or feel off I always feel better after a session. It is part of my health routine.

I am in the US and I say negative, unless I’m feeling lazy about it. I’ve been doing Wim Hof for several months, which includes daily cold showers. Occasionally, I take a dip in the ocean (I’m in San Diego). I find the cold exposure gives me energy and calm for half an hour. The ocean dip is very cold, but I feel absolutely amazing afterwards and that lasts all day. It’s partly the exposure to nature, which all of us should be doing more!

I am an athlete for over 23 years and has helped recovery al the time. Muscle soreness gone would recommend it highly. My son is a track and field athlete just turned 20 years. Perfect for him. He has used it for last 4 years. He is also a competitive swimmer. Helps greatly with recovery all the time

If you are on the "Stuck in Fight/Flight/Freeze Mode" side of CFS and your symptoms look like cPTSD, than Whole Body Cryotherapy is worth trying. Even more than one session a day. Cryogenics: A Biological Intervention for Treating Complex PTSD? - Both fight/flight inductions are functional then, in protecting the body, and sadly in harming it (freezing is harmful indeed to a living body, and trauma is harmful indeed to a psyche and to a brain). - It appears that there is something similar occurring in both cryogenics and PTSD. The fight/flight process is key to both. - The biological application of cryo for PTSD cases may seem odd at first, however one of the evidenced based interventions for PTSD is re-exposure therapies, where controlled exposure to trauma is key - Trauma alters the brain and the body through many intense processes that occur when life-threatening events are underway. - The hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenaline (HPA) process is one factor in what potentially injures (or alters) the brain during a traumatic event; - The impact on short-term, tertiary, and long-term memory (a potential consideration in looking at the imprinting of trauma) is altered. - the safe use of cryo, likely will remove the trauma stress hormone (ACE) effect - My suggestion is that if the biological alteration of brain occurs in trauma, then the biological alteration of brain can also occur in other induced states, like cryogenics. - If traditional PTSD treatments fail, to tell a patient that biologically they've been permanently damaged by their trauma (often after years and years of very costly multi-modal multi-paradigm variations and therapies) while NOT having a biological corrective tool in the handbag of tricks to heal - seems misguided.

I go 5 to 6 times a week. 3 minutes at -184F. I’m into my fourth month at this. The chamber is different from where you went. I enjoy it. Embrace the cold.

Canadians: minus. For extra oxygenation, I do hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Incredible for many serious health conditions with tons of research behind it. I prefer warmth - I get super sick when I’m exposed to cold or even eat cold/raw foods. Warmth is actually helping me recover lol. We’re all different! P.S. I saw it on Ellen too - I cried when the show ended!!

I use to go swimming in the ocean baths in the middle of winter just before the dawn. words can’t describe how cold it was. It felt amazing afterwards and my inflammation improved greatly, though maybe because I became a ice block!

We say minus in the UK. How often do you have ice baths? My friends go swimming in the sea in winter. Do Americans and Canadians say ’sea’ or is it always 'ocean'?

I do one ice bath per week at the moment. And I'm not sure about everyone else but this Canadian says 'ocean' :)

This could be because we are surrounded by seas in the UK. North Sea, Irish Sea. Whereas US and Canada have the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean

I’ve heard a few docs talking about just having a cold shower or finishing your shower of bath with a cold shower. I did it when I had Covid as there are studies that say it helps release your white blood cells etc. Thanks for featuring Marky Mark 😆

You look gorgeous look at your shiny hair 😮 I have a kind of fear of being healthy (I know) and you’ve helped me decide to heal. It’s hard pushing through the discomfort but I’ve been doing hot and cold showers and green juice.

I take contrast showers and that’s about all I could stand. We do have a center here that offers both cryotherapy chambers and heat therapy. They offer some other therapies as well, like BEMER pads to improve micro circulation.

Thanks for sharing this brave adventure! I did an ice-bath-never again! Question: You said that you couldn’t have anything metal on your body, how about IN your body as in a medical implant?

I would fact check me on this but my understanding was that metal inside the body was not ok either!

I take 2 ice baths from 38 to 40 degrees every day, 6minutes each. I do not know how anything could be better than that.

Hi Raelan, very informative post. I'm sure many of your countryfolk will be impressed by your delivery and professionalism. We Brits are a little more sceptical when it comes to trying things that are supposed to be beneficial to our health. We're a very unfit nation overall and Americans can teach us a lesson on personal health and dental treatments. By the way, in answer to your question regarding using the word minus or negative when talking about temperatures. Yes, it is just American people who say negative, the rest of the world say minus. Same as the fact, that you are the only country on the planet who miss the letter S from the word maths, when referring to working out an answer to a mathematical question. "You do the math", is not the correct grammar when used in that context. That aside, you have certainly convinced me that Cryotherapy is definitely worth a try. If I come out looking anywhere near as beautiful as you, then I will regard it as money well spent. Finally, I can't think of any other form of beneficial health treatment where you would be able to eat an Ice Cream at the same time. 10/10.

Thanks for the beautiful post 🤩 I’m almost 60 I do crio every single day for the last 4 years. I started 3.5 minutes daily. Now I’m doing between 7 and 15 minutes -170. After my heavy bag boxing class and before my weight training and then I do red light bed for 20 minutes. Of course I do an anti inflammatory diet. Now People say that I look like 35 years guy even though I’m my son’s older brother or my daughter’s husband. I really feel energetic and really strong. I just highly recommend this routine. I’m a bit extreme guy for everything 😅People say that I’m the only guy that finish the session smiling 😅😅😅 The secret is control of a deeper breathing

Your friend found that she slept better but you did not. You found that you recovered faster from your work out. If your friend did not work out prior to going, these differences then indicate that the benefits are individual specific and I think that is what will be discover over time. Thus, 10 people all suffering from various levels of inflammation would have different experiences. The one with the least level of inflammation would have a drastically different experience than the one with the greatest level of inflammation. This unfortunately also means that the scientific community will consider it pseudo science for a long time because they want their evidence to be exactly the same for every measurement before they consider it a legitimate practice. It's the same as when a medical doctor says of a Chiropractor that is teaching nutritional health; "He's not a doctor". What does that have to do with saying vitamin C will help you stave off colds? It's no different than claiming that 2 + 2 does not equal 4 because the person teaching it is; not a mathematician.

It would be interesting for you to make your own informal n=1 study testing your cytokine levels before the workout, after the workout, and after the cryo at varying intervals. That's a lot of blood draws but it would be really helpful to see! 😅✨👀Hey Quest, checkout this Sponsorship opportunity, lol!!! ✨
