I once had an anxiety attack early in the morning. It was a very unpleasant feeling. You wake up to a rapidly beating heart and your mind is just full of anxiety and fear and dread. It felt like my mind was trying to split apart. I got up ran to the shower and hit the cold water... instantly helped. This stuff really does help. Keep on rockin everyone.

@@johan9388 Music helped my Motivation a lot 😄 In the beginning I started with warm water for the first minute and then changed it to cold water (At the first drop of the song actually). I focussed on the music and powerful, controlled breathing for the rest of the Song (Btw i Used Billy Talent - White Sparrows; but most songs work like that 😁) Sometimes i still need to hype myself up with music first (mondays and hungover days for example 😂), but most days i just Place myself Directly under the shower and turn to max cold, just focussing on slow, controlled breathing. I actually learned to love that refreshing kind of pain 😀 I should add that this might be dangerous if your body isnt used to the cold or your struggling with heart disease tho.

@@Cobaltfire360 broo I love Billy Talent! I re discovered them like a month ago when remembering one of their songs. I listened to them alot when I was like 12 - 14. 26 now. The cold showers are going decent. I just take my warm shower and wash myself. Then set a timer for 3 minutes in which I gradually go colder. And then when the timer hits 0 I go all the way cold and time it. Started the first 2 or 3 days with 15 seconds. And today was 30. Liking it alot! Gets easier already. Today the last part of graduallly lowering temperature was kind of more annoying than all the way cold.

@@Cobaltfire360 I have to add I have heart arrhythmias since like a year. Its not that bad. It was acting up the last few weeks but somehow seemed to get less these past 5 days that I have been taking the cold showers. Could be a coincidence tho since they come and go. Before half way January they where almost gone for like a month at least aswell. But as I said I build up quite easily, so I'll be good :)

I started taking cold showers in early January 2022 and that turned into taking them at night before bed paired with 4 rounds of the breathwork and I've gotta say, works like a charm. I used to have to fall asleep listening to something on the computer, now I can jump in the shower and go through my routine spending about 2-3 minutes in the cold which quickly starts to feel euphoric, and since its Summer where I am I end it on cold, then I'll play the guided breathing on the computer, once that's done turn everything off and I'm asleep in about 5-10 minutes. Cheers

A cold shower raises adrenaline yet lowers cortisol? Cortisol is only released in direct response to elevated adrenaline (epinephrine and norepinephrine). Mechanistically, a cold shower (or cold plunge) in the morning makes most sense because that is when adrenaline and cortisol levels normally peak in a healthy circadian pattern. Adrenaline and cortisol should be at their lowest levels at night for proper sleep.

I am still smiling about it 😂 to anyone struggling to get off the fence, about 40s in your body adjusts. Then I found myself trying to sink into the water as much as possible because it was my exposed skin that felt more cold than the rest of my body. Can I take cold shower or ice bath during prolong fasting (for example: 3 days water fasting)? 3. What will happen if I expose my body to cold temperature for the rest of the day, like wearing short in cold weather, even if I take cold shower everyday? Will body need more energy to maintain the temperature, will I need to eat more to have the energy? Because I get hungry more than before after I expose my body to cold?

Do you recommend that everyone should put the cold on the head first? I was studying Ayurvedic medicine while living in India and the thinking is that if you immerse the body in frigid water the body heat will go to the brain and that is detrimental to health. I hope you see this I would love to know your thinking on this. Thank you Wim, you are a true inspiration ❤️

Cold showers are also healthy because you're grounding/earthing. The pipes are connected to the earth and so is the water. Using earthing mats or walking bare feet on the earth helps a lot too.

What works works. Much wisdom in listening to your inner voice and feeling, and the pragmatic power of practice / adaptation (hormesis). I crawled over the icy terrace just before dawn last morning. Wonderful sensation and clarity of perception.

Thanks for another great lesson Wim! The initial effect of cold water is to cause blood vessels to constrict, resulting in a slow-down of blood-flow, thus, a depression of the vital processes. However, soon after the application of cold, the body reacts by strongly dilating the blood vessels, which powerfully increases blood-flow to, and stimulation of, bodily tissues.

Hello Wim Hof, my name is Reda, your follower from Morocco 🇲🇦. I've been watching you since 2023, but before I watched you about taking cold showers. I was about 14 or 15 years old when I started showering with cold water, but not with ice because it is difficult. But when I started showering, I did not shower in all seasons, but only at the beginning of the summer, when I started watching your videos and following your instructions, I decided to shower with cold water in all seasons, and now I am currently 18 years old in 2024, but Allah willing, I will continue until I shower with water. Cold with snow, I forgot to mention that in Islam.

Took my first cold shower today. It was weird… let me give a little context: Earlier I saw a few videos on how not be an NPC. And they all roughly said the same thing, “be in control of yourself.” And the major way I saw them explain how to break out of being an NPC, is to start talking to yourself in your head. So one thing led to another and I came across this man’s breathing technique and ice plunges. Then I came across cold showers. Anyways, back to my experience. It took me a couple of minutes to break the first wall of actually getting in the tub because I was getting splashed on with cold water. But, after a couple of minutes, I started talking smack to myself. Things like “come on bro.. you’re not gunna die.. stop being a wuss..” Then I just walked in. I started to feel my body and jaw start to tense up. I tried the breathing, but it seemed to make it worse. So started talking to myself in my head again.. “you’re being a baby.. you got a lot to prove to yourself…” Then, I literally felt my body ignore the cold and start to warm up. Almost like my skin went numb. I felt the water, but I couldn’t feel the cold. It was from one second to another. I could’ve stayed in the shower forever. But I stopped at 4 minutes. Anyways, I’ll continue to do these showers everyday. 👍🏾
