Why Denzel Washington Is Calling Out Son Malcolm as a 'MAMA'S BOY'! (Exclusive)

Denzel Washington and his co-producer Todd Black sat down with “Extra” to talk “The Piano Lesson,” which was co-written and directed by Denzel’s son Malcolm Washington and stars his other son John David Washington. In the drama, based on August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, a brewing battle over an heirloom piano threatens to tear a family apart. They spoke about the project being a true family affair, with Denzel reflecting on how prepared Malcolm was and how it just felt like “business” as they were filming. Denzel and Malcolm also spoke about the challenges of bringing a play to the screen. Plus, Denzel reacted to Malcolm dedicating the movie to his mom and Denzel’s wife Pauletta, laughing that Malcolm is a true “mama’s boy.” The Piano Lesson is in select theaters in the United States on November 8 and streaming on Netflix November 22.

She's an excellent interviewer. However, if I had to make one side note, in our community, for the most part his wife would have been addressed as Mrs. Pauletta. Nowadays I get this generation is a little different, but from my generation, it was a sign of respect to address an elder as Mr. or Mrs., but I get every one's customs are different.

@terrilam8505 She is not an American Black. We know how to address our elders because we were raised that way. She also was somewhat taken aback by the movie being dedicated to Mrs. Washington. American Blacks know there's a bond between Black American sons and their moms. Not that that bond doesn't exist between moms and daughters too, but it's a different bond and just as strong. She's not of our culture, so she didn't know.

There is a cultural disconnect (and mildly disrespect) in the way she's adressing Mr Washington and the questions she's asking that's not landing the way an ADOS interviewer would know to do and ask. The questions mostly felt like word jumbles put together to sound deep. Faux emoting isn't the same as effectiveness. This is an ADOS legacy project and their feels like a disconnect with a connection to ADOS legacies in the questions. Then she centered herself (let's talk about how I'm a unique Somali flower -rolls eyes) during this interview with this legend .She did not pick up clues one of us would. SMH.
