I heard that puberty ends when we reach 25 years old. After that, most of our ideas and mindset will remain the same for the rest of our lives. If we hate certain groups of people, we will most likely remain that way. If we follow a certain belief, religion or philosophy, it is most likely that it will not change much over the decades.

I blame McCarthyism. Ideas that would hold CEOs and corporate director's boards accountable, being equivocated to the machinations of cruel nationalist dictatorships has (I think) been the strongest key to keeping cruel _corporate_ dictatorships so firmly in power over the last several decades. Thankfully with the death of that "movement" more people have been raised in an environment where you can question and suggest changes to corporate power structures without potentially liferuining repercussions.

It's not a "human nature" problem, it's a control problem, a history of the vast majority of humanity being enslaved by the same abstractions we create that justify a few people controlling everything, the result is resentment and hatred with explosive results, unless we capture those moments when things became a little different (think the original christian communes) and revive them in the present

@@rumplstiltztinkerstein That's an incredibly stupid urban legend. Many people change radically throughout their lives. People who were atheist their whole lives embracing God when they are 80. Evangelical pastors who preached against homosexuality and degeneracy who abandon the faith and become LGBTQ advocates in their 60s. Staunch scientists who fall into nonsensical conspiracies during their midlife crisis. Criminals with a law of the fittest attitude who become compasionate community leaders. The only certainty we have is that everything changes. The concept of people never changing or staying stuck in a mindset their whole lives (and that this process is desireable) is completely absurd and counter-nature. It is one of the reasons why conservatism is inherently self-defeating and self-destructive. I'm sure this impression comes from a bunch of morons adhering to the social concept of "integrity" and "being true to yourself" as being something rigid, that if you change your mind, it means you are weak willed and corruptible. But most healthy people are not so intransigent. After, the man who stands still as the tide rises, is doomed to drown. Edit: My emphasis here is on the radical change, the 180s of perception. Your focus was on "not much" to "not at all", which is what I disagree with. The only people unable to do 180s are those who fear change, or refuse it. But I wouldn't say they are the majority of people.

@@yuin3320McCarthyism is just a very small piece of a much larger and much older movement that is really rooted in corporate think tanks like the RAND cooperation and the Heritage Foundation, the Clarimount institute and the atlas cooperation (among 100's others) , that use Astroturfing to influence society. most of them formed all the way back in the Jim Crow era when extremely wealthy Northerns and the the massively wealthy evangelical churches in the South formed them to oppose what was considered an extremely progressive federal government from their point of that was completely dominated by money and influence of the North only at the time. McCarthy is just a single small example of astroturfing. giving him actual credit is still falling for the astroturfing, condemning or not James McGill Buchanan was really the man who brought the think tanks into the modern ideological era by studying the Soviet Union's misinformation tactics in the 1950's and invented the ideological concept of framing a cooperate Agenda as a Freedumb agenda, but he is still meaningless in the grande scheme of things if you consider that the think tanks that he helped build would have still recieved 100's of billions and blue even Trillions in some cases in funding over time with or without him. I highly recommend the book Democracy in Chains to get you started on a more full understanding of this, and why you are very wrong. i

I keep seeing people say “I give up on humanity” or something along the lines of humanity is doomed. Devilman is pretty up there in the pieces of media I would recommend, sadly people go by looks and turn away from violence and miss out on the development of the characters and the insanity that envelopes the world. It's definitely easy to lose one's faith in humanity. I've lost mine several times. My friends always remind me that it isn't all humans, though. And despite everything, I really do think most humans default naturally to empathy for others--something that research has found in the youngest of children who haven't had a chance to learn anything yet. And it makes sense, because working together is how we've survived for so long as a species. A lot of people have just been conditioned away from this by people who crave power--people who, a couple of hundred thousand years ago, would have been kept in check by the group not putting up with their selfishness. Somewhere along the line it was decided that some people were better than others and thus deserved more, and things won't get better until we realize what a load of BS that is.

Sadly this is something we will never get away from. Once Needs are met, next comes Wants, from the Desire, and lastly Greed. These are all just part of being Human. While most can control these Urges, there will always be those who chose not to. All it takes is one Evil Person who takes Control to throw everything into Chaos. WW2 is a perfect example of how this can even lead to one of the Greatest Tragedies in Human History. The only way to ever "fix" this would be to remove Human Emotion, and if we did that would we even be Human anymore.

The demonization of those who are different from you will always make you the bad guy no matter what side you stand on. I've been all about Devilman lately since I finally watched Crybaby a couple months ago, and this video absolutely captures the most important parts of Devilman and Nagai's ideas, especially about media manipulation and our modern crises. However, what hit me the most was the moment where the kids run to Akira and he forgives the mob one by one. It feels good to be reminded that we can still choose to be good to each other. Even though humanity is all gone at the end of this story, humanity prevails in Akira and Ryo when Ryo finally experiences empathy. Fantastic video, as usual.

You left out that while Akira was busy forgiving the mob that was stoning innocent people, another mob was hunting down his only remaining friends and family. I'm so glad Masaaki Yuasa exists. Not many directors out there can pull off a metaphor this on the nose while maintaining artistic integrity. I think this is why the show actually got some crossover at a time when anime was still relegated to it's own communities. It's thematic content was obvious, but despite this and the fact that it's a "cartoon", people still resonated with its message. I think that's because of Yuasa's ability to tell a story beautifully.

In your analysis, a common error arises: the belief that the present predicament is uniquely troublesome and that the past held better times. This notion is far from reality. One can delve into literature dating back thousands of years, such as Apuleius' works, and find commentary on issues haunting contemporary society. This fallacy stems from viewing time as a linear progression, disregarding the cyclical nature evidenced by the recurring phases of nature-spring, summer, autumn, and winter.

@@majestyzx9081 It was always Devilman, but I'll admit the fanpoodling over if Shin Violence Jack featured Amon as "new Jack" or it was just the second interlude between Lady and Saga before Akira gets reborn as Yuuki was amusing. It's more interesting when you consider the first part as being Akira diving into Satan's psyche to change him (allowing enough good to exist in Satan to split into Jun and Lan), and then Shin as Satan returning the favor and getting Akira ready to become the demon armor's Amon persona and Yuuki persona for Saga. Violence Jack's world is essentially a way to bypass the fate that God wrote.

@@neoqwerty Devilman Saga is the most interesting Devilman has been since the original series. I love Saga as a continuation, end, and perpetual continuation of the franchise with its, fairly positive for Devilman, ending. I wish it was talked about more among the Devilman community. I don't think it will ever get the animated series it deserves, but Demon Lord Dante eventually got an okay adaptation so there's hope. My problem with Devilman similar to things like The boyz or Watchmen is it assumes that humans will automatically lose and give into their darker tendencies. While some manga, anime or shows might only show the good guys winnning the boring 'Superman' that everyone loves to just 'follow' Life is amix of grey. Devilman just assumes the bad in humanity cause they see negative things happening now and today, but it's more than that, even if Putin launched all the nukes Russia had and ahnihilated the human race--- does that suddenly mean a compassionate nun that orphaned thousands of children selflessly didn't exist? Shows like this that can ONLY focus on the negative of humanity with little to no positives are no better than the ironic fear-mongering icons this channel references. They have the same problem that Devilman does except on a different level of seeing only the problem of one group---whether out of fear, ignorance, hate, malice, greed etc. Devilman becomes what it fears and ironically that happens to it's message and why most people kind've put it down. There are definitely alot better anime that either directly or indirectly tackle the complexities of humanity, right and wrong, Angels and Devils alot better than Devilman does. I mean it almost reminds me of a reflection of a Shin megami Tensei. Even so, great video and analysis gunna sub and check out what more content you guys have.

@neoqwerty

No, it really is deeper than that. The point is that Ryo is MASTERFUL at stoking the witch hunts-- and that he literally has demon accomplices in every human government. The hierarchy is infected, perverted, and controlled not by humans, but by the demons. If you freezeframe through the scene in Crybaby where Miki makes her appeal to love one another, there's a LOT of hate and backlash at first, THEN there's people who send supportive messages and push back. In the chaos, there's people who use the excuse to be the worst they can be, who decide to get theirs and make people they just didn't like suffer. There's people who trusted Ryo Asuka since he was already a science influencer doing daily podcasts and important enough to be an expert on TV interviews. Then there's people who never bought into it and just stay home with their heads down or prepare-- There's a literal refugee camp set up to help the people who get affected by the rioting and the vigilante justice and the paranoia. Simplifying Devilman into "this is only the negatives" is honestly missing the biggest point that the show pushes: it's only when you forget how to love that you're a monster-- and it's when you love, even if it's too late, even if it's after you lost it all, that you can find hope. Devilman doesn't end in the apocalypse: it begins again. Over and over. Until finally Devilman Saga happens: An ending where they stop the war before it wipes out humanity. An ending where once-bitter enemies recognize that they ALL deserve to live, and that they HAVE to coexist. An ending where they join forces and go kill the architect of their misery and the one who gave them their miserable fates to begin with.

It's fucked up that the global warming plot point got dropped from Devilman Crybaby. It's more relevant than ever. It's also fucked up that Devilman called the Satanic Panic in the '70s. "Maybe humans aren't an inherently ethical species" I think a big part of the fear of Devilman isn't just that it's humans, it's that it's the majority powers, the people who run society maybe don't have anyone's best interests at heart, maybe even their own. Global warming ruining the world is just a more realistic reflection of demons ruining the world (and, as you note in the video, Go Nagai called that shit in the 1970s!) It's not just that humans are evil, it's that antisemitism is evil. It's that bigotry in general is evil. Homophobia is evil. Fascism is evil. That message, by itself, isn't very controversial so why is Devilman so hated when it's basically the same kind of lesson you could get in a cartoon for all ages? Because Devilman shows, exactly, in detail, how the people running society benefit from that stuff, how they don't and won't fight against it, and how they will eventually (in the long term, if the rest of us don't do anything about it) kill us all. And that's gonna make people not want Devilman's message to spread. In that sense, i guess i'm not surprised they ended up taking the global warming plot point out of Crybaby.

I will agree with the idea that humanity is not nearly as moral and righteous as we like to think of ourselves - "... all have sinned, and fallen short of the glory of God." Understanding this should not fill us with a feeling of self-righteous superiority, but rather a deep humility and pity for our fellow human beings. We're all evil, and we're all dealing with the effects of evil, both our own and everyone else's. While we may want to fight the evil we see in the world, in order to do so effectively, we must first wrangle the evil within ourselves - and that's the real challenge, now isn't it? It's been said that a man who cannot rightly govern himself is unfit to govern anyone or anything else. But who CAN rightly govern himself? You? Me? Anyone!? The rules have to exist, but they have to exist apart from us, because otherwise, we corrupt those same rules in our attempts to enforce them, twisting them into just another tool for evil.

I care allot about people on either side and have come understand their core values. Sometimes they wont understand the other side, sometimes they give themselves moral superiority over the other and just spread lies. It sucks. There are truths on both sides that need to be respected and instead they just scream about what they are afraid of loosing to the other instead of finding middle ground. At least we can inform those who respect us of what we can and guide our children in our own best direction if we have them. Thought provoking video as always. Thanks for the content!

Could we just stop with using "has never even met a woman" as a dig/insult against people? It's trite, it's tired, and it does nothing but hurt innocent bystanders. Kind of like insulting physical attributes of people. It almost never is going to affect anyone you would want it to, but is going to hurt others who happen to share the same kind of physical attribute and not the actual attitudes/ideas/harmful ideologies. Also, it kind of puts an odd sort-of pressure on women to go out and do the work of connecting to people in order to change their minds. This can be helpful for some people, but on the other hand it's not entirely fair to the women who are expected to do this potentially dangerous labor on behalf of others. And yes, I know that the world isn't fair and there's lots of work to be done to try to make it better, but still, it just feels a bit like giving an already-underserved group more work. I dunno. I just hear a lot in media made by men (or at least people presenting as masculine) "jokes" made at other people's expense (or sometimes their own) using women as... kind of an object, really, that has value for being Women and not for anything else. I'm not a woman, but I am mainly perceived as one and have lived as one for many years, and personally I'm fucking sick of that kind of joke.

They already knew about the effects of CO2 on the world in the early 1900s, and people talked about it extensively in the 70's. Just it was still a bit "out there" , so the fossil fuel industry was able to successfully hide it again from public knowledge it's just aggravating! The bible banning in Utah was a great self own XD .

We'll all go the way of the Devilman's plot, and in the aftermath, Violence Jack will arise. By that point we'll all be living in a Fist of the North Star type of world.

Holy crank, Fujita Funk 🦒 So *we'll all be livin' in a "Fist of the North Star 👊⭐️" or "Mad Max" type of post-apocalyptic world* right then...🤔?

I like how you use a photo of someone against drag shows for children as an example of someone who is bad lmao.

This Theme goes back to the Ancient Egyptian concept of Mayat ie Balance. Heru Good and Seth Evil fight for the Throne. Heru wins but he cannot defeat Ultimate Evil. Ultimate Evil-Apophis can only be defeated by Seth-Evil. We also see this Theme in Mishima Kazuya’s Devil Gene in Tekken 8 and also in Hanma Baki where the Demon of the Hanma Bloodline is a Protector of People who are oppressed and disenfranched by other People.
