That is a beautiful interpretation of this song. For me personally, I kind of took it as similar to “higher” on The stage. Escaping this dark meaningless life, shadows and darkness and sadness and anger just shedding away from me and just being free traveling and exploring and flying through the beauty of space and time and being free and full of Joy and full of life and love and happiness and seeing the beauty of life and nature and space. Just free. Free of all pain. Sadness. Anger. Hopelessness. The first 2 thirds of the song I feel are the trying to find an escape and “building the rocket ship” to escape it all. “Rocket ship” being metaphorical since the song is cosmic and feels spacey and all of that. But the rocket could be anything from a literal rocket, to putting on headphones, to purchasing a ticket to go on a boat adventure, to driving to a mountain to climb it. Then When it gets to the beginning of the piano part, I feel like I am leaving. Not quite “free” yet, but hopeful, everything is ready. I’m taking off. Leaving atmosphere. Then when it gets to the really quiet part that sounds like spacey electronics, I feel I have broken out of this atmosphere. The things I’m escaping are shed from me and life is before me ready to be grasped, explored, seen, lived and loved. Then it explodes as I travel through space and time completely free and happy. Then the last few seconds are me returning back home to my life. Sitting down in my chair. Just smiling. Refreshed. A new perspective. A new fresh joy. A new fresh hope in the world. A new happiness. Filled with love from the journey I’m home from.

people be complaining about the vocoder section when it really adds so much to the aesthetic and overall narrative of the song. imo it potrays the protagonist becoming energy once again, transcending his physical form (after death), so having the vocals sound in an ethereal manner is more than fit for it likely the best, or at least most heartfelt, rock ballad a7x has ever done. and easily one of the best ones in modern rock. even better than Roman Sky imo (which this kinda feels like its sucessor, so to say)

I LOVE THIS ALBUM. A lot of people may think otherwise, but I guarantee, if you love music, if you have a creative side, you will vibe to this like no other album. These guys are smart, these guys know what they are doing. They could honestly care less about if people hate them or love them. They want to express their love for the music. When I first heard Waking the Fallen, I 100% knew that they were eventually going to grow out of metal and into their own genre. You already could hear melodies, piano, classical guitar, just art in that album. This album really showed their growth and maturity and showed a big F U to labels and genres. Their genre is Avenged Sevenfold.

I recently went through a drawn out, intense breakup with a romantic partner of 3 years. We both pulled away from each-other slowly as things got worse financially, mentally, etc. - When I heard Cosmic the first time, it was in the midst of that. I felt myself holding back tears & then started uncontrollably sobbing. At that moment I felt I could understand that we were both on the same universe, understand each others desires, have passionate love, but in a completely different realm. The ‘acceptance’ stage began and l started mentally unpacking. In an interview from a couple months ago, Matt explains how a-lot of the lyrics were inspired by a trip and a conversation with his longtime partner. Hard to put into an exact perspective; but the meaning narrows down to loving somebody so much, unconditionally, and having a deep understanding within the universe (and that person) that no matter what could have went differently in your lives, what places you were in, what jobs you worked at, or even where you lived; that the world would somehow always find a way to bring your energies together again - Because it’s meant to be, and I believe Matt is tapped into that frequency as a songwriter. Hence (“We loved so many times, and in so many lives, sometimes we got it right”) The energy in this is beyond words. The song is about love. Infinite love that repeats until the end of time. “Before the dawn of man, castles made of sand” - There you’ll find ME. This can also be applied for self love as well. We all could use more of that. Thanks for the video and amazing perspective. It’s people like you that push me to continue musically.

I LOVE the final lines of the song. It ends abruptly with the "Into that good..." lyric. The song that plays after this is "Beautiful Morning", so perhaps the song names finish that lyric? "I'm gone, into that good, beautiful morning."

That's an awesome interpretation. I personally thought the lyric cut off to symbolize death, as earlier in the song, the lyrics "into that good night" also were meant to symbolize death.

Avenged sevenfold is my absolute favorite band and when this album came out I was ecstatic. My interpretation of this song has been all over the place, from M. Shadows trying to display the Egg theory and the unity of humanity as one, to someone on a trip. But I think I finally figured out what I WANT this song to mean In section one, the protagonist is going through an existential crisis. He is battling the fact that he will perish to fate and leave whoever he is talking to in the beginning, but promises he will “follow” them “beyond forever” this is when the solo kicks up, and this marks beginning of this intense spiritual journey for this character After the solo, the protagonist comes to terms with reality, and almost unites with it, promising this person that he will always be there whenever wherever. Citing different unrelated things like “roses”, “castles made of sand” “Pharos clothes” to emphasize that he is there through it all, almost being one with space and time. When the music cuts out, the electro/synth we hear building up to that last drop is the heartmontior in the hospital for this individual, as he ascends to the afterlife in his final moments, becoming one with the universe, keeping his promise to always be anywhere and everywhere following. The “I’m gone” are his final words to this person as he passes away, and when the vocals cut out, he has taken his last breath, forever floating in the cosmos as a cosmic entity

I love about the interpretation of lyrics, as physicist graduate I cry a lot because is exactly what I think about and it's beautiful, knowing M shadows I know that he want to bring exactly this meaning, sorry for my bad English I'm Brazilian, but yeah, that is

This song, so many feelings in one. Easily one top 3 in their career in my mind. Nods to so much of their old stuff and all the spacy vibes. 10/10 song

Don... you hit it on the head with this review quite honestly.... I appreciated you explaining your interpretation of existentialism it really helped me understanding and connecting with the song. Before seeing your review here I'd listened to Cosmic more than 10 times and it made me feel things, things I didn't understand, like I felt sadness but I don't know why and the sadder I felt the more I wanted to listen. Also the second part of the song here reminds me of M83 - Outro performed live with those drums and effects etc... I love the new album, glad to have found you on here and will certainly be checking out your other videos... thank you and love from the UK

Hey thanks for stopping by! I’m glad this interpretation could give you some sense of “why” haha. And good call on M83! Didn’t even cross my mind but I totally see it now. That’s a fantastic album too!

This song is the essence of audible beauty. Beyond being pure sound euphoria the lyrics bring you through all those emotions like a guide. I don't think a song has ever made me feel as emotional as this. In my opinion this will go down as top 3 avenged songs of all time. I want this played at my funeral

I've listened to this song at least 100 times now and it still gets me.. Masterpiece isn't enough to describe. It's on its own level.

This is something absolutely special. Either it or Ordinary are my favorites from this album, not fully decided... gives me similar vibes to Higher, though even this doesn't top how that song makes me feel when I'm brave enough to listen to it. Was expecting it more toward the end of the album, feels like it could have switched places with Beautiful Morning at least but it works. I'll bite my tongue on going deeper otherwise; Most are here to listen to good music which is great... few realize what it's truly like to hear something like this lyrics included, when you have an awareness or "memories" you're probably not supposed to. Thank you Avenged Sevenfold for existing and sharing your creations during my stay on this Earth.

Such an incredible incredible song. A7X has always showcased some amazing musicianship through their catalog but nothing has hit quite this hard before. The beautifully simple vocal melodies on top of the controlled chaos of the instrumentals take you on a musical journey all by themselves then add the lyrics and you have one absolute masterpiece of an emotional ride. Well done A7X!

This song is a masterpiece. That solo brought me to tears

This song hit me hard. It's somber but very comforting. I interpret the song as a journey through time thinking about humanity up to death. I felt exactly the same way about the end, it was a summary of everything experienced and desired to experience. The story continues, and hopefully it gets better for everyone else. There's nothing we can do about our place in time, we just gotta try our best. But we are all one in all times, and that's really cool. This album is a masterpiece, but Cosmic is an emotional adventure and reassuring example that my beliefs in time and space are shared by others.

YES. I heard a few tracks and thought - "They've either completely lost it or have achieved true musical ascension" I listened to it a few more times though, and came to the conclusion that this is a masterpiece. It WILL go down in history.

The transition after the solo is arguably the best transition I've ever heard in a song of theirs, maybe of any band lol.

I'm so glad i found someone that sees this album as an experience from start to finish not something full of "hits" i understand not everyone like it but some people are unnecessarily angry at it.
@iamdondawson Жыл бұрын
It really blows my mind how many people don’t understand that a lot of music IS meant to be listened to as an album! And it’s no fault of their own, the artists and promoters don’t do a good enough job informing people about this. And the worst part is it’s starting to look like albums as we know it might cease to exist not too long from now.
@Justzack323 Жыл бұрын
@@iamdondawson Yeah unfortunately it seems to be the era of "hits only" I'm glad to see A7X putting something like this out now though, it's refreshing.

Thank you for your video sir. I’m so glad that I finally found someone have a very similar interpretation as mine about this song. I don’t understand why people bitching about this album is different. But this will be my best album of all time. “They say that all beauty must die, I say it just moves on.”

YES! I’m so pissed that I didn’t bring up that lyric! I need to start scripting my videos so I don’t forget things like that because that’s such good evidence to back up this interpretation. Thanks for bringing that up!

It's just so awesome that this video just showed up to me today, and I felt so represented by your reaction because it was really similar to how I reacted and felt back then. But even more amazing is the fact that I still feel this song deep and it gives me more meaning(s) each time I listen to it. The details... It's art I think the AI theme is also pretty relevant, specially if we consider what has been in discussion since the stage album. Makes us really think deep about everything that's going on

Cosmic had me in tears too. Like "boohoo" actual tears. The album as a whole is just a hell of a journey. I love the different genres. The musicality from all of them is god tier. Absolutely love it.

This was the best explanation of this album and understanding of the concept of it I've seem. Well done video man. I like that you had an initial reaction and then after 2 days of listening really gave your thoughts, it's so true, I've never had an album or songs grow on me to the extent this album did.
