Why Did David Beckham Stop Wearing Leather Predators?

David Beckham is one of the most iconic football players ever to play the beautiful game and his boot history is unquestionably linked to the adidas predator, the boot has been associated with him almost since the very first ball he struck breaking into the Manchester United team as part of the class of 92'.
However even though his history is linked to the Predator, do many people know, or at least know why Beckham switched to synthetic boots. From the Predator absolute onwards Beckham could be seen in signature colourways made especially for him, each one of these special Beckham predators was made from a synthetic material as Beckham stopped wearing leather predators. Why, is the question that we are going to answer today, why did Mr. predator himself, why did the biggest name in adidas' football stable, why did David Beckham stop wearing leather predators?
The Predator X of course being a notable example as the Beckham model featured a Taurus leather upper, why, I have no idea!

I had suspected he went synthetic for humanitarian reason, but didn’t want to assume, and didn’t want get my hopes up. But hearing that was part of his reasoning, that gives him much more respect and class as a player and person. Wow, glad we saw him in our lifetime.

Great video! Man U fan as well and Becks has been my fave for ages but hadn't known this was the reason for the switch. Personally I prefer leather boots but much respect for anyone making the choice not to buy/wear them. His return to leather (not counting the X) would have been with the Champagne Mania remake in 17 (not Kangaroo) then his limited collection hybrid Accelerators(Kangaroo leather) celebrating his different career teams via color/number. The white Precisions are one of the most beautiful boots of all time IMO and the first boot I think of when I think of Becks. How about a complete Becks boot history video?

Hey thanks for checking out the video. The 2017 mania isn't actually genuine leather of any kind. It's fully synthetic. The DB accelerator pack were leather though as you correctly said. I considered a full Becks career tier ranking video, but then I realised it would be very very similar to my predator tier ranking video so in the end I didn't make it. You should also consider the Accelerator DB where supposdely he took a big part in the design of the boot and those are a mix of kangaroo and knit. I have always thougth Beckham cared more about looks and being at the leading end of fashion than feel on the ball. The syntethic on the Absolutes is not nearly as soft or nice as the leather version but looks ultra cool. The syntethic predators look more unique and shiny and I think that was what David wanted. He knew he good be a baller no matter what he had on feet. But the California law argunment sounds much more solid.

Yep the accelerator he supposedly had a hand in as you correctly say and he went leather there which only muddies the waters further. As much as the synthetic looks cool like you say, I don't think that the looks were part of the decision I think that came later.

I had the white and gold Beckham PowerSwerve which were synthetic too - absolutely lovely boots. Still prefer the manias and that giant red tongue!

Yeah basically, I don't buy/eat/use anything from animals. So that includes leather boots for myself.

You need his 2018 White Predator Accelerator LE, sweet boot. Just too pretty to play in the mud. I also have the Black Accelerator LE Boost sneaker Triple Black. Just missing the Red TF :(

They are sweet you're right, however like Beckham in LA I don't actually buy leather boots myself. So even though they're awesome they're not an option for me personally. They look great though.

Essentially you're not allowed to import kangaroo leather into California and you can't sell it. So all kangaroo leather boots are basically illegal in California

That also what I think. He also drinks milk and eat meat. That is why I think he chooses syntethic for the unique look.

@@AleABest may be he started to avoid only k leather because of the manufacturing process and then he got used to synthetic boots, and he continue to avoid leather preds although they were made of cow leather

I would say that he chose to avoid kangaroo leather due to the reasons I mentioned before. I would say he exclusively avoided Kangaroo leather and therefore leather jackets which are almost always cow/goat leather along with dairy and meat from animals were not issues that concerned him in the same way.

I think the GR colorways of the pred x were leather. From what I’ve seen, his match boots were synthetic.

I'm not 100% to be honest on Beckham's personal Xs I've only ever seen one pair of the red X that he supposedly wore and they were leather. However, as you say it is possible he had synthetic personally I just haven't seen any concrete evidence that was the case.

If I remember correctly Kangaroo Leather is illegal in California, which is where Beckham lived and played when he started wearing synthetic or taurus leather.

I cover all of this in the video, you are correct that kangraoo leather is illegal in California but as I say in the video Beckham was wearing synthetic boots before he moved to LA.
