Cell wasn't the first opponent who made Goku give up. Jackie Chun/Roshi was. When he used the Thunder Shock Surprise on him Goku said he's giving up but before finishing the word he was distracted by the moon.

Goku simply didn’t stand a chance against cell & Goku pretty much let’s this be known multiple times before the Cell games even started (Korin tower, talking to piccolo). And then it’s even further proven during the fight with cell & afterwards when cell powered up AGAIN. Idk why it’s so much confusion among the fandom. Great video!

I don't think it really matters, Goku caused perfect cell to be created, through his actions and inactions of the arc, so what does Goku do does he fix his mistakes on his own, no he throws all of the responsibilities to his son. From the very start of this saga,Goku had wanted to pass on the mantle to Gohan. He prioritizes Gohan's growth over his own inside the time chamber. After "one day" he sees Cell & knows he can't beat him,Korin confirms this but Goku still doesn't train. Then the fight proves Goku can't beat Cell. Goku knew he'll lose but his whole idea was to show Gohan,the inexperienced fighter how Cell fights & what all tricks he has up his sleeve. Thus,he would've always wanted to surrender after pushing himself towards a certain point. It was all a part of the plan & Goku had realized how much stronger Gohan had gotten.

I don’t think he was a bad father there was a moment in the chamber when Goku ascended to Super Sayian grade level and while he was powering up Gohan: “wow dad look at your power you can defeat cell” something like that and Goku response was “these muscles will only slow me down” this I think Cell hasn’t completed his final form bc Goku visited Cell to measure him up. My two thoughts are; 1) Goku probably did get to ssj 2 maybe while gohan was sleeping and him training on his own. 2). Goku did see Gohan power from his anger and burst as a small child. Goku wasn’t a cowered or bad father. The main reason is simple he wanted his son to be the one to defeat cell. I honestly don’t believe his speech saying “Cell I quit your much more powerful than I am” something along those lines. In poker terms Goku bluffs I mean it pushed vegeta to turn to babidi. He lied about learn ssj3 to vegeta he found out in other world. The reason is he wanted his son to save the earth now when Gohan sayian pride took over Goku did tell him to finish Cell. Cell self destruct Goku realized he made an error then had to instant transmission Cell out of there not know of his regeneration of his whole cells.

It was clearly stated in the chamber him reaching ascending pass Ssj same with Vegeta and Trunks which he went passed Goku in that form that he couldn’t beat cell in that form. Goku had to know with Gohan rage that he would go passsed ssj. Even in the buy saga Goku lied to Vegeta about obtained ssj3 which Vegeta stated he found out in other world about it when Goku tried to convince him to fuse. Never showed how Goku obtaining ssj2. We know he went beyond ssj in the chamber, but just ascended. The questionable decision he made by treating the Cell games like a tournament and not the state of the planet. Moments like when Goku desperately Kamahamaha from high then split Cell knowing Piccolo dna is in him. To me Goku didn’t looked pushed like with Vegeta and Frieza. He held himself back he pushed with training all we know he did obtained ssj2 in the chamber and lied to Gohan and the others. The writing probably wanted to pass the torch to Gohan. Cell can regenerate as long as there's a single cell within his body that still exists. It's kinda weird and only came up WHEN Goku blew him up, but that's basically the explanation, so Gohan managed to destroy every single cell in his body when killing him. Again, I too think it's a bit weird, but it is what it is.

Here is one weird factor! Pikon was able to easily manhandle Perfect Cell in the afterlife world. But had a very close to a draw match in a tournament with Goku. From that perspective, I'd say you're right. Morally, his decision to let Gohan fight Cell made no sense whatsoever. Why would you throw your own son into the fight like that at such a young age? Well, this video literally explains the entirety so I don't want to recap it. It's obvious Goku did not want to get his son hurt nor did he want his son to be the hero, as mentioned. This video is just amazing overall in explaining everything and your argument makes sense morally, but not when the entire fate of the universe is at stake. I would much rather have it this way then another "5 minutes" from the Frieza saga. I think this final fight is a lot better written and makes sense than Frieza's and Goku's long-ass slugfest.

The statement "Goku had the power to defeat cell" is backed up going into the Other world tournament, where he and Pikon were sent to deal with Cell and Frieza in hell. This is literally a day after both Cell and Goku had died so their power was the same as when they were alive, not to mention this was cell's "Perfect Perfect From" and Pikon comes in a swats cell like a fly and instantly overpowers them in hell. Not to long after that Pikon and Goku are in the other world tournament going back and forth with blow after blow eventually ending with goku winning due to a ring out on Pikon (then BS defaults the win to the grand kia)

I think that Goku knew that he could defeat Cell, but he was more interested in seeing his son's full potential and the results of his training. In my opinion, this is why Goku gave the senzu bean to Cell, only to test Gohan's capabilities. There's no way Goku would've done that for Cell if he saw him as a real threat.

Nope. You are wrong about the first Part. Goku knew all along that he cannot beat Cell. No matter how much training Goku will do, he will never be able to beat Cell and the proof is Vegeta who spends a lot more training than Goku and still he didn't get stronger to be able to surpass perfect cell. In Goku vs Cell fight in Cell games, Cell is just holding back against Goku. Goku knew Gohan had the potential in beating Cell that is why he focuses on training Gohan rather than his own training.
