Slovenia is very old nation, one of the oldest (by DNA testing, more than 40k years). As people moved in prehistoric times we are connected to India. Even some words in Sanskrit remain similar in Slovenian (vid = vid (videti) , bhrata = brat, mata = mati (matka) , da = dati, oštha = usta, madhu = med, mrtju = smrt, dvaram = vrata (dveri), šala = šola dživ = živ (živeti), tama = tema (Croatian = tama), phena = pena, svaja = svoj, praš = vprašati ('praš)... I bet you felt like home for some undescribable reason :) Thank you for sharing. To be telling us we are good. We need it like desert needs rain. We were abused for couple of thousands of years, now we need to recover from lovest self opinion.

You have a magnificent country, unique and rich in history, treasures and everything...make a difference and fight for a better future. For equality and for a better environment. It is possible to change the sistem. Slovenija is extremely small, we don't make much difference, but you can, because you are a big country with a big population, you and make an impactful difference to the entire planet, if tou wish. Sadly it is not as she described it...Out of 2 million people 250.000 are below poverty rate and 295.000 are just a little bit above. It is a very idealised version of our country, that she shared. It is nice to hear, of course, but our proverb says "not everything that shines is gold". And the poverty in increasing, due to the foreseen stagnation or even inflation.
@EarthWalkerMan3 жыл бұрын
Hey there. Nice video. Maybe it's a bit idealised as at the end we are all people with their own flaws and mistakes but generally I think overview is correct. It might even be that we Slovenes are even nicer to foreigners than we are to fellow citizens. Maybe it's minority complex as we were always under rule of some foreign country. Or we are just happy to see foreigners try their best with our language and integrating in our society. Well relative equality here also comes with it's own price. If one is standing out of society too much especially in economical way, people become jealous and try to discredit him or try to "pull" him back to ground level, even if this person came to his wealth in transparent and legal way. And not to go into politics which is the biggest divider of people here. But otherwise yes, we love the nature and try to protect it in general.

Hey. Thanks for this video. I am a visual artist from Warsaw, Poland but since 2,5 years I live with my partner who is a composer in Finland. Finland has nice attachment to the ecosystem that I enjoy a lot, as well as great space for artistic development. Although, I must say I really suffer from the climate here. Recently I have visited Slovenia and I fell in love with this country. There are some unexplained similarities to Finland but the climate is less harsh and I could have vegetable garden, which I dream of. I am thinking that we might move there at some point in my life. Do you know about art circles? How are they? How are the opportunities? Is it a nice creative community or is it very competitive? Is there nice space for making contemporary art? I had good first impression but after all I am afraid that I would come back to a competitive art world, which I have experienced in Warsaw a bit and it is not for me.
@nevaf.s.5358 Жыл бұрын
Slovenia is so small that it is incomparable to Poland. I know a few people who attended the university of arts in Warsaw and I can only tell you that compared to us, your art universities, art scene & development, it is not only on another level it is like from another planet. I don't think that a skillful person like you would find our art environment competitive, the problem is that you would feel out of place, restrained for how advanced you are. But on the positive end, Italy and it's incredible art scene and opportunities is just a little more than 100 km away from the capital Ljubljana, so you can be anywhere you want in a snap of a finger and still enjoy the laidback life and the "indie laidback art scene of Ljubljana". For being and art professional you could live and work here very easily, but you would really have to make a lot of connections in the neighbouring countries for your range and reach. Hope this info is useful to you of any kind.

I am really interested in visiting Slovenia and possibly immigrate. Can you do a video abt breakdown of living costs and maybe, unforeseen issues or disadvantages of Slovenia? I instantly fell in love with slovenia after doing a short research. What are the jobs in demand in slovenia?
@nevaf.s.53582 жыл бұрын
As a Slovene I can answer you some questions. First of all you have to understand we are in European Union and Schengen union, so immigration laws are quite similar as in all the rest of EU. It is quite strict and difficult to obtain visas, to put it simple. Maybe some student visas. Work visas are also quite complicated to get. Citizenship is extremely difficult to obtain, it takes a minimum 10 years and a very good knowledge of our language. Secondly, Slovenia has just two bigger cities (towns, to be honest if you look it in the perspective of bigger countries) the most populous city has only 350.000 people. All the rest are towns and villages of some 1000 to 10.000 people max. It is a very small comunity, everybody knows everyone, if you get what I mean. 99% of people are white caucasians, 80% are Christians, the vast majority is of Slovene ethnicity (the rest come from other former Yugoslavian states in the Balkans, some Italians, some Hungarians, etc.). So being from another country other than the near proximity you will definitely stand out "like a torch in the dark" (don't get bothered by curious looks, they are not malicious, just not used to foreigners from far away living among us). At first you wont even notice, because we are not intrusive or loud, we tend to mind our own business and not "bug" strangers. Once you will get a grasp on the culture nad language, you will definitely notice that. Secondly, living costs in Ljubljana can be around (500-800€ a month for rent, house expenses such as electricity, internet, heating, water, garbage disposal, other taxes cca.250-300€ a month, food cca. 200-300€ per person a month). The average salary is 1300€, but this is in theory...in reality it is much lower. A 50m2 flat is around 180.000€ for sale (just for orientation). The living costs outside the capital are of course lower, but also salaries follow the same trend. If you are a high skilled professional (example a programmer, medical personnel, doctor, developer etc.) your chances are higher to get a better payed job, but in this case you wouldn't choose Slovenija to live in, because there are other Western countries which pay much, muuuch better for those professions. Knowledge of Slovenian language is almost mandatory to find a job here. Maybe you can get by with English in some high tech or international companies, otherwise it is almost a must. So to cut it short, if you search peace and tranquility and a "low key" kind of living it is a nice choice. If you look for professional development, business opportunities, major job opportunities and earnings, well in that case (even Slovenes) immigrate more West or North of our country. It is a perfect spot for a nice retirement time or maybe for families who want to raise their kids in relatively peaceful environment with some benefits that come from free healthcare and education. But that's it. For an ambitious young person who wants to have a life opportunity for their professional path, well it is not the best place to choose, to be honest.

Hi Andrej, I never said equal wealth distribution means more or less money. I meant equality in society. I am aware that many Slovenes are seeking more money, as most humans are programmed to do. It’s ok in my opinion to seek what you want for any reason you find important. My words in the above video are pointing to the state of mind Slovenes are in. Equality which is why you don’t have conflict and crime. In my book, a wealthy society is one where people live in peace because they all are able to enjoy their abundance. I have been to Cuba, the crime rate is low. I have not been to NK, I cannot comment. Take my words in a positive way. I am not the judge of you or any part of the world. I am only expressing my experience. Through my lenses. It is not meant to provoke you. Just to share my point of view.

Exactly what the elites want. Capital wants low wages & doesn't care from which (incompatible) hell hole country those workers come from. They don't care about long term effects that influx will have on its domestic inhabitants. When they are done with the "new cultural enrichment" they move on to the next country to impoverish. The natives have to deal with the newly (non-assimilated) newcomers. The capital is already happily somewhere else. 🤔😒

It is not so simple to study here if you are not an EU citizen. Knowledge of Slovenian language is essential for work and study. Not even the simplest jobs like a cleaner, basic construction worker etc can NOT be done without the basic language knowledge. To bring a family with you is also impossible for countries outside EU or outside the local proximity. We have the same laws as in basically all EU and even stricter immigration policies. The exception is only for highly skilled professionals that are neeeded in our workforce that are attributed special entry benefits. Sorry to disappoint you. :-(
