1) The only ones that I recognize at this roundtable are Prager, Pageau, Peterson, Barron, and Vervaeke. I respect Barron because he's an actual cleric. Pageau is also tied to a church, but it seems like he's responding to the secularization of society by trying to reenchant Biblical symbolism. The Iliad and the Aeneid are full of symbols as well so he's not actually making a good case for being a Christian specifically instead of a Muslim, a Hindu, or a Buddhist. Everyone else in this group is into "cultural Christianity" for political reasons or materialist reasons like evolutionary psychology. 2) Besides jacking themselves off, it's very funny that at the end of the video Prager needs these Christians to reassure him that Christianity is not against his people and their influence.

How does god exist...?
@TayloringSwiftlyАй бұрын
@@mr.metamovies2419 Are you asking about the nature of God's existence, how He is sustained, or something else? Either way, God exists as an immaterial, eternal, and transcendent being, yet He is also immanent-present within His creation. The Bible affirms this: “For in Him we live and move and exist” (Acts 17:28), and “The heavens declare the glory of God” (Psalm 19:1). God’s aseity-His self-existence-means He depends on nothing for His being. He revealed Himself as “I AM WHO I AM” (Exodus 3:14), signifying His eternal, self-sufficient nature. Unlike finite beings bound by time and decay, God is eternal and unchanging. His perfection encompasses holiness, love, wisdom, and power (Isaiah 6:3; Romans 11:33), making Him uniquely fitted as Creator and Sustainer of the universe. As finite beings, comprehending a transcendent God who is not bound by time, space, or decay can feel overwhelming. Yet, God reveals Himself in glimpses: through creation, His Word, and ultimately in Jesus Christ, who is “the exact representation of His being” (Hebrews 1:3). His transcendence reminds us of His sovereignty, while His immanence assures us of His care and involvement in our lives. “The eternal God is your dwelling place” (Deuteronomy 33:27). Though we cannot fully grasp His infinite nature, scripture encourages us to seek Him, as “His eternal power and divine nature” are evident in creation (Romans 1:20). Understanding Him is a journey of faith and reason, one that invites awe and trust in the One who is the source of all existence. Hope this helps.

@@mr.metamovies2419I don't understand your boxed-in confusion. Since we're two strangers on the internet and likely have nothing useful in common it's difficult to answer a question as unspecified as yours, but much like the creator of a train set is not bound within the rules of the trainset's existence in order to exist himself, God doesn't have to exist with the rules of human existence in order to exist Himself. As the creator of space and time He exists outside of space and time by His own being. As a train I don't understand how a human could possibly exist because I'm made of wood, but it seems you're assuming that since you're made of wood, muscles and neurons cannot possibly exist. If a monotheistic God is real it's not any kind of hurtle of thought to understand that He's different since He made everything. If you're an S-type in meyers Briggs or have t learned how to think outside of your own perimeters it might be difficult for you to comprehend, and I might be explaining something that you're not asking about. I have no way of knowing for sure what your broad question meant. But hopefully I provided a leg-up for you to have a better footing while you think about things. GLHF

Actually, sin, transgressions, and iniquity are all separate things. They are even mentioned separately together in several verses. Sin is separation from G-o-d, primarily through ignorance. Transgressions are trespasses, traversing into God's presence unauthorized and uninvited - hence, choosing to worship and serve Him in your own way. Iniquity is lawlessness; perverting the law. Those who are lawless, our Messiah will tell to depart from Him [workers of iniquity].

As a devout Catholic I perfectly understand the praise for Bishop Barron and Jonathan however, I think a lot of viewers are not understanding how important Dennis Prager is to this conversation. Firstly, because as Bishop Barron mentioned the Old Testament is absolutely critical to the New Testament and in my experience, majority of Christians and Catholics do not fully understand that. But secondly, Dennis Prager is the testing stone for the Christian beliefs, meaning Christians will always agree with each other in general in these conversations, but you need somebody who comes from the same love and understanding of God, but who has different theological views to push and probe back in order for the Christians to truly understand their beliefs and flesh out the truths! No, He did not do this to clean any water. You must be confused with the catholic made up beliefs. Jesus Christ was not immersed, like all the others that came to John, as a sign of repentance from sin. He submitted himself to this humble act (see Philippians 2:8) because it fulfilled God's will for him. It was a visible sign that he was placing himself fully under the direction of our heavenly Father. This is confirmed by what happened next. And after He was baptized, Jesus came up immediately out of the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon Him . . ." (Matthew 3:16, see also Mark 1:10 - 11, Luke 3:22, John 1:32). The descent of the Holy Spirit upon Jesus and God's words from heaven fulfilled several Old Testament prophecies (Psalm 2:7, Isaiah 11:2, 42:1, 21, 61:1). Study God's Holy Word, the Bible only.

Yes, sir. It is absolutely about Jesus Christ. Mary, Jesus' mother was of the lineage of David, as was Joseph, his adopted father. As you know, God Almighty was the actual father of Jesus Christ, but he is counted as the lineage of David, and this promise is absolutely about him. [2Sa 7:12-13, 16 KJV] 12 And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever. ... 16 And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever. God bless you nephew/brother! May you prosper abundantly in S. Africa! And don't forget to keep going back to the book of Ephesians and all the church epistles that are written to us believers.

@@gailhill8391 Great comment, 100% agree that Jesus is the fulfillment of the Davidic King promised on 2 Samuel 7. Just something to add, this chapter is also speaking to God's promise that Solomon would "build a house for my [God's] name" in reference to the Temple which would be completed by David's immediate heir King Solomon. This was Solomon's primary achievement during his reign. So yes, 2 Samuel 7 finds some immediate fulfillment in King Solomon but is ultimately fulfilled by our eternal King, the Lord Jesus who has "established the throne of his kingdom forever". Another take on this: Jesus was baptized as a ceremonial justification of his sacrifice. John was in the priestly tradition of Aaron (his mother and father where in that line). One of the responsibilities of the priest in the old temple was to justify the sacrifice is free from blemish. after his Baptism, the Almighty Father declared, he is well pleased.

As someone attending an evangelical university, immersed in the culture of educated evangelicals, our respected voices are those, present and past, such as NT Wright, AW Toizer, CS Lewis, Tim Keller, Francis Chan, John Pieper & John Mark Comer. I would love to see voices like these included in Peterson’s round tables, not because their insights are so needed as an addition, but also as a marker of safety to educated evangelicals skeptical of Peterson and Pegeau’s psychological and symbolic interpretations that “these insights are for you, too!” Unfortunately too many in my context are too dismissive or too prideful to consider scripture in Peterson’s key. They are missing out on so much theological depth and richness. All truth is God’s truth, I say you! Onwards and upwards.

@@davidmusserKZbin. Empty evangelical here. In many ways you’re right. Evangelicals play the role of gatekeeper for “biblical” truth. The irony is that Protestantism and Modernism are two sides of the same coin; every “hermeneutical exegesis” has followed every cultural trend, even if “we” didn’t create that trend. On that note, Peterson is introducing existential concerns in our contexts and tries to raise it to the empirical. And that’s the problem he is continually facing, since it is the other way around and he needs to see the empirical is not the highest concern. Where Evangelicals can learn is to have a deeper understanding of the experiential/existential concern without crying “relativism/ subjectivity / not biblical “! Ironic because we are so proud of our seeker communicability, but are rather toothless on the big social issues. Peterson is a good example of sincerity and courage in the face of a social order that seems more beast like everyday. But he needs to drop the hermetic alchemist, depth psychology model and understand the archetypal is in fact ontological. In other words, GOD is real and not simply the spirit of tradition. Like Hegel, he collapses God into our personal experience in a manner that distorts how God revealed himself. Because God is also a subject of action.

This is a true statement but is it complete? Was any additional lessons or laws being fulfilled? I believe Jesus is being anointed as high priest in the order of Malkizadek. It fits with the levitical instructions for priestly inauguration. Except Jesus is anointed with the Holy spirit instead of oil, immediately after the “washing” (baptism). Its immediately after His baptism that He begins to proclaim “the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.” An ending and a new beginning as discussed in the video. A really wish Prageur (a jew) would have pointed this out to the Christians in the room. Jesus came to fulfill all of the torah.

Jesus' Baptism wasn't for the remission of sin, as it was for others: His Baptism was the announcement of the arrival of the Bridegroom, as He is described, and as the Church is the Bride. One of the reasons we are Baptized is the ceremony for marriage between the Saved and the Bridegroom. We are literally saying "I do." Baptism itself is not Salvation, but it is good to be Baptized as an adult - because we are consecrating our choice to become one with the Groom. It is better to be Baptized shortly after Salvation, and not wait. Some sects equate Baptism with Salvation, but that is an extremist position. One should not take Communion nor be Baptized without having committed our lives to follow Jesus.

Jesus was baptized because, according to the OT law, the sacrifice must be washed before being offered up to God. That's the primary reason why HE was baptized. He had to fulfill the scriptures as the sacrifice. The Christian baptism is symbolic of a death and resurrection, essentially, a new birth. The water represents the grave.
