Jesus wasn't God the Father Jesus was God the son. In this position as a human born He took on flesh that he might be able to conquer sin in the flesh. His relationship with the Father was still intact. He was in heaven before he came of the Spirit to be born of Mary. Jesus did have a real need to pray to the Father but when he prayed out loud it was usually for the benefit of those listening around him. An example would be when he prayed to the Father that he could call forth Lazarus, he said I know you always hear me but I say this so that those who hear me will know and believe. He was and is the perfect example of who he calls us to be. And because of him we have access to the same holy Spirit that he had. Before he ascended to the Father he told the disciples that if I do not go then the comforter cannot come. And so by going back to the father he sent the holy Spirit, and this very holy Spirit is an intercessor to us with God. This is how our relationship with God the Father has been restored. So follow the example that Christ said and diligently seek the will of the Father.
