Julian Lennon. John Charles Julian Lennon (born 8 April 1963) is an English musician and photographer, son of The Beatles member John Lennon and his first wife Cynthia.
John left his first wife Cynthia Powell for Yoko Ono and had little contact with his young son after the divorce in 1968.

Sharon Jensen He said he doesn’t want children? I wonder why, exactly. Just because you don’t think your father was a very good parent doesn’t mean you won’t be. I also think that one realizes how difficult parenting can be when one has one’s own children. It might help him to understand his father a little bit more. Neither one of his sons has any kids. Dhani Harrison doesn’t have any either. I think it’s kind of a shame, really.

True but, you have to remember when John divorced his mother and got with Yoko? It was because of the hard feelings with his first wife[ and I don't blame her] that Julian felt he deserted him because he wasn't around anymore as often.

That, without counting, that he first demanded of Cynthia for adultery (unjustified and for many reasons he even knew, false) as he tries to take Julian's custody, even knowingly, that he was killing her by taking the child.

You must be an expert to know all these things. But what if Cynthia was no angel, but just stupid and masochistic, unable to protect her son against the cruelty of an immature father? What if Lennon was just tired of a woman sacrifice herself to keep her husband to herself this way and using her son as an constant accusation against him? What if the abuse of the child happened by Cynthia at least by 50% by using Julian as an emotional substitude for her absend husband so he had to bear a burden he was overhelmed with... but could never put his anger against her as she´s always been the poor victim and only caring parent? What if you jerks are just stupid? Just asking...

Which in itself is very difficult to understand because as for me, if I had done that I’d had been heart broken for life. But that’s a personal opinion, but again I think most of us would. @airashii 108 that myth actually comes from the idea that John thought Paul wrote the song for him. It's a super long story that involves Paul acting as Julian's father due to his mother hanging out with the Beatles before they got famous. Paul felt bad cutting them out like that and wrote a tune for Julian. You don't have to believe me if you don't want, but this is the story Paul has offered in interview about this.

There is more ugliness on the part of John Lennon. To get a "clean-cut" and easy divorce from Cynthia when he was already in relationship with Yoko, he attempted to frame Cynthia. He organized and dispatched a male whose role was effectively to hit on Cynthia and seduce her. John could then divorce her on grounds of infidelity. The trap didn't work, Cynthia wasn't interested.

"It was said I never loved Cyn. That's far from the truth. We were young, bigheaded, and got into a physical relationship too soon. Perhaps if we took things slow, we would have made it. I know we would have made it." -John (1974) I truly believe Cynthia was the true love of his life. He'd write letters to her saying how much he adored her and said in one letter "you are wonderful, I adore you, I want you, I love you, I need you, don't go". She made him very happy. After Yoko and drugs got in the way of their marriage, John changed completely for the worst. In the quote above, John truly thought he and Cynthia could've still been together if they just did things differently. To me, that tells me he never stopped loving her or atleast always cared about her. It's sad he couldn't see that Cynthia truly loved him and Yoko only wanted him for his money and her own fame. If this wasn't true, why did she go after Paul first but he turned her down. Why did she sign an agreement for her husband Tony Cox that anything she could get from John, she'd give half to her husband? Why did she send letters to John while still with Cynthia threatening him saying if he didn't support her art she would kill herself? I think that the reason he seemed so cold about Cynthia after the divorce is because Yoko was around. I've noticed that when with Yoko he hardly spoke about Cynthia and was awful if he did, but when he wasn't with yoko during his 18 month 'lost weekend' period, he seemed to speak more of her and was so nice about her, but when he was back with Yoko he reverted to talking horribly about her again. Such as saying the only reason Julian was conceived was because he was drunk and that surely hurt Cynthia. Cynthia said herself they couldn't afford to get drunk most of the time because of how little money they had and said Julian was purely made out of love. Yes, unplanned but from two people who loved eachother. If he didn't, why would John write Cynthia a ton of letters declaring his love for her? Honestly I just think he spoke shit about Cynthia just because it was what Yoko wanted to hear. Cynthia was 100% the better woman because she never said anything nasty about John or Yoko, while yoko was hell bent on keeping John away from Cynthia and Julian.

Chantelle Adlington I agree with everything you said. Cynthia loved him unconditionally when he had nothing. He obviously loved her bc Pete Best said when he & John were in Hamburg, they would often go out for a drink by themselves & John would tell Pete that he missed Cynthia. It’s true that Yoko tried to seduce Paul first. She was obviously trying to get any Beatle she can. She stalked John & would show up at his & Cynthia’s home. And even had sex with him in the home while Cynthia was on holiday. She lured John with drugs. She is a gold digger & an opportunist. I’m not surprised she promised her husband half of John’s fortune. It was what she set out to do & accomplished. John was a fool to trust that conniving witch.

As cynical and acerbic as John was, he was incredibly weak and he let Yoko lead him around by the nose - that May Pang was able to encourage John to spend time with Julian when she was in a relationship with him, is evidence of both his malleability and of Yoko's cunning and selfishness.

Lennon, actually admitted that in one of his last interviews "That is why I am always on about peace, you see. It is the most violent people who go for love and peace. Everything’s the opposite. But I sincerely believe in love and peace." He was a man who lost his mother at 17, killed tragically by a drunk off duty police officer. His father left him at an early age. He became a very bitter man, who became very attached to Stuart Sutcliffe and of course Paul Mccartney. Then the Beatles fame was destructive combined later with drugs, such as LSD etc. I believe, Yoko was an escape he chose, but a negative influence on him no doubt.

Yoko was a control freak, which also spilled over into his solo work too (check out the superior 'Cheap Trick' version of 'I'm Losing You', rejected after Yoko put her five eggs in!) When Lennon and Ono split and he went May Pang crazy, look at the creativity! Walls and Bridges, a breath of fresh air. He also took Julian for a while when absent from Yoko. But back together, Julian's out again and his 'non-Yoko' L.P. gets dismissed by its creator. Like I said, great musician, but could have seriously learnt from Macca about family!

She was always putting on shows of her art and then John Lennon. She was raised by nannies. Her parents were wealthy bankers who didnt nurture her so i guess that is why she also allowed John to raise Sean. She actually stopped looking for her cause she felt she knew where her mother lived and if she wanted to get in touch she would. Julian was an unplanned child -- as were most children at that time. I was an unplanned child, too. Indeed, John said that Julian came out of a bottle of whisky. Wrong, he came out of the body of a woman because you ejaculated inside her. John and Cynthia chose to have a sexual relationship, they chose to keep the child (John never urged her to get an abortion, to his credit) and they chose to marry. Choices have consequences. John chose to be a father and a husband, but he neglected his son and was abusive to both his wife and his son. That was because he was a jerk and not because Julian was unplanned. Ideally, you should plan your family, but you can love an unplanned child just like a planned child, if you want to. John had issues and fame and drugs aggravated them. Yoko was able to cope with it, she simply avoided John when she couldn't stand his antics, she slept in her office, often for weeks. John and Yoko didn't have a fairytale marriage, either.

Unprotected sex for over a year without any consequences...eventually, what was likely to happen did happen. Anyway, I think parents shouldn't say such things. I lived through the 60's and followed everything Beatles. After all these years, it is my opinion that John (my favorite) was a fairly troubled individual. Those "Julian" growing up years occurred exactly during the years that John was so caught up in being John the Beatle. At that time, John wasn't capable of understanding the full extent of his parental obligations. What troubles me the most was that Cynthia and Julian had to FIGHT tooth and nail just to get enough money to protect themselves somewhat from the public and press. John could have easily provided for Cyn and Julian with the flick of a pen, but didn't. He left it up to Yoko, who finally eeked out a few shillings. Too bad. Bad karma too!

For John Lennon, he was in a tough position. For many women they can't accept another man's children because they represent another life she wasn't involved in. He was in a position to choose between Yoko and Julian. I think there relationship would have been better in adulthood. I also doubt John and Yoko would have even stayed married. We never get to find out.

It's not a child's fault on how they were conceived, or the circumstances at the time. How many children today can say they were born out of a bottle at a wild party on a Saturday night. Plenty. But a great deal of them, not all of them, were still shown that they were loved and wanted. It's a human life, still your child. My heart goes out to Cynthia, and Julian. She was a fantastic mother, and he a great son. God Bless Them both.

Julian was thankfully the product of his mother’s love and best attributes. For that, he is fortunate. John Lennon never had that and so he was always seeking love. He thought found that in Yoko. Unfortunately, she was incapable of the true kind of love that requires your own self-sacrifice as it related to Sean and his father. It would be very interesting to know how Yoko was raised.

Cliff springer What I can say is that he’s a person. He did a lot of good on top of bad. His messages of peace are still important, and he did try to be a father figure as much as he can with Sean. He did have more his towards Sean, which is bad, but he also tried to keep in touch with Julian with letters. It was bad, and unforgivable that he left him, but he did try to contact him again. He had a temper and beat Cynthia, and such, but he apologized and promised to never do it again (which Cynthia confirmed). He’s a human being, he’s done really bad, but he’s done good. He’s not worse or close to Hitler or a lot of bad people that’s for sure.

A few mistakes here. Julian was conceived and born at the start of Beatlemania in the UK only, not at the height. The height of Beatlemania would have been 64 and 65. Julian was born only a few weeks after their debut album Please Please Me which went unnoticed in the US and around the world. Lennon actually met Ono in 1966 at an art exhibition in London. They consummated their relationship in 1968 which of course is when Lennon and Cynthia split and later divorced. We can see Cynthia in the photos with the Beatles in India in the earlier part of the year. Lennon and Yoko didn't leave for the US until 1971 not 1970. Remember he recorded and produced the 1971 Imagine album at his own Ascot studios in England.

@@teresaolszanka112 Yes, because they convey incorrect information. With the half-assed school of mentality it might not matter, but that's because the person might not care about correct facts. But if this was shown on television as a documentary or if the information was in a newspaper, book, or magazine, it would lose credibility with 3 major errors in a short piece. Why would anyone take anything else seriously they produced. They might say Paul was born in 1944 and was the only lefty in the band. The impression it leaves is someone not knowing the material they're covering, and so when people pick up on that vibe they won't take further projects seriously and so move on. Hopefully they're not some snowflake coddled by other concerned viewers and take some constructive criticism. It's to their benefit because I'm sure they wish to make money on these videos in the future.

Cynthia was an amazing woman and mother. I think she gave john all the love she could, but was still hurt by how much he made her suffer with the cheating. That's so sad to say Julian was the product of a whiskey bottle. Yoko was a terrible stepmother, but May Pang would have made a better one for Julian, she actually told john to see him. That's a real kind heart woman for the time like many hippies should have been, unlike Yoko. I wish he wasn't killed to have been able to know Julian more, that part got me when he expressed wanting a better relationship with his son. Julian and sean are close now.

I know John wasn't the best father to Julian but towards the end of his life, he finally realised he had to step up and be the father Julian needed. John realised towards the end of his life he had been a terrible father to Julian and was really trying to bond with his son. He began phoning him more often (he actually played the whole Double Fantasy album to Julian down the phone before it was released and wanted Julian's opinion and thoughts on it), for his 17th birthday he wanted to give the gift of a painting of the two of them. Near his death he told Julian to look out for a white feather whenever he would pass away and Julian would know his dad is fine and he's looking out for him. Julian was presented with a white feather by a tribe and he believes it really was a sign from his father like John said all those years ago, so Julian created a charity and called it the white feather foundation. Also, John was writing diaries in the mid 70s onwards and he told his personal assistant Fred Seaman in Bermuda 1980 that if anything was to happen to himself in the near future then he'd want Julian to have his diaries as he felt they could help Julian get to know his father better and John felt Julian deserved to know more about him. When John did die, Fred tried taking the diaries back to England to give them to Julian as John wanted but Yoko got him arrested for stealing property and Yoko got them back. Julian has never seen those diaries, even though it was what John wanted. A quote from John in 1980 is: "I hadn't seen my first son grow up and now here's a 17 year old man on thd phone talking about motorbikes. I was not there for his childhood at all. I was on tour, I don't know how the game works, but there's a price to pay for innattention to childen. And if I don't give him attention from zero to five, then i'm damn well gonna have to give it to him from sixteen to twenty, because it's owed. It's like the law of the universe." Also, Julian said in 1988 in an interview for a documentary called Imagine about John he said "There was no wall facing us anymore, but it had been knocked down and we could actually (pretends to be on the phone) 'hi dad I'd like to come and see you is that okay?' 'Yeah'. It's hard to explain emotions in dealing with that situation especially when we were getting so close." It's tragic that Julian lost his father twice, just when they were finally becoming closer, especially when John was planning to go back to England the same month he died to be with his family and see more of Julian.

If he had wanted to see his son, only a call to his mother was enough and voila. Or take a plane. It was John Lennon, he could do what he wanted. He neglected his first child for reasons he only knew. And I don't say this to defend Yoko, because the deal with Julian and Cynthia is unforgivable for me. I just think she is not to blame that he was a bad father, because we must remember that Julian grew estranged from his father, because it was the time of the Beatlemania and Yoko still did not enter the scene.
