When this first came out I was completely disinterested since the trilogy wrapped up everyone's storyline in a nice little, semi neat bow. I remember actually falling asleep in the theater when I went with a friend. Wasn't until I got it on DVD when I grew to appreciate it. As a standalone story, or spin off completely removed from the trilogy, it's a great watch. Jack and Barbossa play off of each other so well in this. The humor is on point, some of the characters said some legitimately funny thing's and the Mermaid attack sequence, though short, is still a major highlight of the series.

I wouldn't say "completely standalone", more like a dlc or a sidequest that is really good... I believe I have a very non-mainstream opinion on most of these movies, so as a standalone(if I were to compare part 3 and part 4, without part 3 having the buildup that were the first two parts, I would actually choose part 4, even though part 3 is my favourite)

This movie was based on a novel called "On Stranger Tides" by Tim Powers, released in 1987. Disney aquired the movie rights to it, and then changed it into a Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

The smoke in the beard of Blackbeard the pirate is called slow match, it's basically a very, very slow burning fuse would just smolder, it could be used to light the normal fast fuses for grenades and canons without having to get flint and steel to make a spark.

In the finale of POTC 3, everybody was like "Jack's got the map to The Fountain of Youth and he's gonna go after it" Part 4 wasn't going to happen for awhile and I couldn't wait to see it. The director Rob Marshall made "Into The Woods (2014) and Mary Poppins Returns" (2018). Johnny Depp reteamed with Penelope Cruz (Angelica), a decade after the late Ted Demme's crime drama BLOW (2001) and both still got that chemistry. I like how these movies tackle more of the myths and legends in those times. The fountain, Mermaids, Blackbeard, etc made things more adventurous. This one had mixed reviews. All the signatures we know and Depp still holds it down with good ol' bravado. This installment broke a lot of records in it's year of release and was the most expensive movie ever made for it's time.

After the Pirates trilogy I think they did a good job handling a spin off. A lot of other franchises typically fail horribly when they divert from the main story but I think this is an exception. Not as grandiose as the previous ones but I kind of like that they chose to scale it back a bit and just make an adventure film. Definitely still entertaining. The Spanish gave no fucks I love them

this movie was my first introduction to jack sparrow when i was 9 years old watched it at 1am with a friend and had the best time and fell in love with jack as a character later watched the other movies as well and will say the first 3 are just incredible, this one holds a special place in my heart tho and is just as good, wasnt the biggest fan of the 5th but it still has some pretty cool and fun scenes

Honestly, I don’t think this movie is nearly as bad as some people say it is. I think the problem is that it’s often held up to the ridiculously high standards set by the original trilogy; obviously it was never going to live up to the heights of At World’s End, since there’s only so much you can ratchet up the action and the drama. But if you treat this as a standalone story- not a continuation of the existing story arc, but a standalone adventure for Captain Jack- it’s honestly a really fun little adventure. Also, I still quote “Did everyone see that?! Because I will NOT be doing it again!” to this day.

What's funny is Penelope Cruz was pregnant while filming this movie. So naturally a lot of scenes where she's seen up close were mostly there to hide her belly. However, for some of the wider shots where you can actually see her entirely well, turns out she also has an identical twin sister. So yeah. Pretty neat.
