They should, but I wish one of the automakers would make a small truck without 4 doors, and give it a longer bed. I have a 1987 Ford Ranger with a 7 foot bed, I'd love to get something newer but nobody makes a compact pickup anymore with a useful bed.

I’m absolutely a “sedan preferred” owner! I have owned 5 different Camrys! I’ve always liked the Legacy sedan! Nuts! I’m sorry they haven’t sold that well! I appreciate your channel Alex! I understand Subaru executives deciding to cancel this model. I’m not in a place to trade for one currently. I guess I could always trade for a recent preowned model! I’ve followed your channel for over a year already. You’re very well informed! Appreciate you sharing this with us! I have no problem traveling to your dealership if I ever get serious about wanting a Legacy! I’ve been to Louisville several times in my life! Again, thank you for sharing this Alex! With great respect always! Mark in southeast Iowa.

Australian here, i was absolutely devastated to hear when they cancelled the liberty over in Australia in 2020. Sorry to hear its happened again in the US 😭 liberty has been my dream car since I was old enough to work. I wanted to keep buying them until I retire but instead I'll juat get the chance to own 1. I brought myself a 2019 3.6 premium and im hoping to keep it for a long time but im young so it definitely won't be my last.

Alex, I get what you're saying, but not everyone wants to 'ride up high,' or drive a box. My '22 Legacy XT Touring is the best car I've ever had. Friends say it is as luxurious (or more luxurious) than their swanky-brand cars. It goes like hell and the leather smells like heaven. The trunk, while not wagon-like, is impressively large. Sedans seem quieter, too, than SUVs because there's more insulation around those rear wheels. No automaker is actively advertising sedans because the masses want to 'ride up high.' Why didn't Subaru put a hybrid in a Legacy, Impreza, or the rest of the line-up to compete with the Prius??Or all of the Korean cars?? One more point: in the headlines this morning was a story about pedestrians fatalities in NYC this year. Most cars that struck and killed pedestrians in 2024: those boxy SUVs.

@DeadAir21
@DeadAir21 Ай бұрын
Making a hybrid wouldn’t have made any difference. The legacy made up 3% of their US sales. The fact is mid size sedans are a dying segment. Compacts have gotten bigger and fits the needs of most car buyers and compact crossovers have become most popular segment in America. So unless you have the strong reputation of a Camry or Accord, or sell most of your units to fleets like the Altima or Malibu, you not going to sell a lot of mid size sedans. Even though the K5 and Sonata just got refreshed, it is strongly believed they will be gone too once they hit the end of their generation because their sales are a fraction of what they were 10 years ago.

I have a 2023 outback and I had initially ordered the legacy but it was not available to me in Ontario Canada in November 2022. I waited from July till November only to be told I would have to wait another year which was not possible, the only model available is the GT which was the one I wanted. After having my outback for over a year, I am pleased with it and have come to terms with the fact that I will not have a legacy. This is my first style vehicle and I was just looking for an all-wheel-drive car, very difficult to find indeed. It is too bad that the legacy has been discontinued. It was a beautiful car.

If you had bought the Legacy Lsi, 1992 Model, and with Winter Tires/Rims OEM, which ─ only R15, you would consider it like Legacy Wilderness. Our family used the Legacy 1992 Model to have run on Wheat Fields for Engineering Surveys works.. Changing Oil 🛢 🛢 We could go under without lifting the Legacy. Much, much higher clearance than the 2001 Legacy 2.5 Turbo! Based on some Japanese Engineers, from Toyoda, that they Subaru would make the Hybrids with Subaru Impreza using Base Engines 2000cc ─ like those Hybrids RAV4; we don't need a Legacy, buy the WRX with Customed Mod Leaf's and Springs ─ we will have a Wilderness Version with R18 Rims 😂 😂

I absolutely love ❤ my 2015 Legacy, got it at about 25k miles and now I have about 123k miles on it and still runs like a gem. Although it’s built on the same platform as the Outback I will never buy an Outback, it’s a station wagon to me. To me the Legacy is for the streets and I love it on the open roads. I was hoping that the 2025 version brought back the “hood scoop.” I preferred the Legacy over the Impreza because it had more space, but I may have to reconsider now. Will definitely miss the Legacy out of the line up for sure. 😢

I picked up a 2023 Legacy and it is an incredible car. It is great on road trips, the lower height makes it easy to load my kayak (the Subaru racks are quick to mount with the factory bolting locations), and a sedan with all-wheel drive is just enjoyable to drive. I knew the Legacy was on borrowed time but was hoping it would stick around long enough for me to get a new one in a few years. Hopefully, Subaru will come out with some interesting options for the plastic-clad adverse.

*I've been a Legacy buyer since 1992, and I predict that Subaru is going to regret the decision to discontinue it: the price of gas is rising again, and by 2030 it will be at, or above, the cost of fuel during the early 1970s. The Legacy fits into this tiny little market slice perfectly, and this currently tiny market is going to grow significantly over the next 10 years.*

We got our first new car in 25 years and my wife wanted the Outback. While we dislike the climate control center console touch screen adjustment system, the driver monitoring system and engine cut off fuel saver. Otherwise it is a decent car. For an SUV, we're getting 31-32 mpg actual measured mileage.

I bought my ‘24 Legacy Limited in January after trading in my ‘11 and prior to that - a 2000. I went to this car after having one of the 1st Camry’s offered with 4WD or AWD - I forget which, but it wasn’t full time) I still see a lot of older model Legacy’s but I don’t think I’ve seen more than one other late model on the road. I’m not really a wagon / SUV woman, I prefer an AWD sedan. It looks nice, gets me through the winter elements and doesn’t break the bank. I guess my next car will be another Camry 😢

It was the most affordable vehicle that could provide up to 650 miles of range with its wonderful 18.5-gal fuel tank... now days you'll be lucky if you can get 500 miles per tank. My father had 3 Legacy 2000-2005-2011, the last one was simply amazing even in the nastiest Canadian winters. The numbers don't lie though, it literally 10/1 in sales compared to their station wagon. The Legacy outsells the WRX, BRZ & Solterra. Why not discontinue those other 3 first?

Alex I love your videos, in fact I used one of your videos to update the infotainment system of my 2020 Legacy touring, however we can agree to disagree on the reason why Subaru discontinue the legacy. Here are my reasons. The legacy had nothing that set it apart anymore since other manufacturers recognized the benefits of AWD! ( Toyota Nissan Hyundai) all have done it even though they are not standard like the legacy. Now the Legacy has no hybrid and a not so favorable CVT transmission which all of the above mentioned are offering with the legacy’s once unique AWD. So I believe Subaru lack of money or attention to their competitors is the reason for the Legacy’s demise. Thank you Alex and continue the great job. God bless!

It’s sad to see it go. As a car guy, the Legacy was one of the best AWD sedans. I’m a little torn. I’ve owned a lot of Acuras, but recently we picked up a 2021 Outback Limited since my wife always wanted an Outback. I’m trying to figure out what my next car will be. I’m torn between the Legacy, Forester, Integra and RDX. The issue for me with the Acuras is the required premium gas. The Forester’s one engine choice is annoying, and hopefully Subaru will fix this by having the hybrid option but I won’t hold my breath. The Legacy truly seems to be the best of both worlds, turbo engine, great luxury features but the hold back is that it’s really become a grandpa car. Subaru really didn’t do anything to make it sporty, which I assume was to protect the WRX sales. It ls frustrating because Honda and Toyota have been doing a great job with the Accord and Camry, so I hate the argument that people just want SUVs. Also, my best guess is that the Forester will move production to the Indiana plan.

Bought my 2017 3.6R Legacy and LOVE it. The naturally aspirated 6 is smooth as silk and wonderful for all driving but shines at long trips. I was disappointed they swapped the 4cyl turbo lately. IMO it outshined Toyota/Honda and was cheaper with 4wd. Was T-Boned by a Ford Expedition and only had outer door panel replacement due to the structural design. If you have a sore back just take a seat for a few minutes and chances are, you'll feel better. Maybe give customers an affordable small truck?

Had an 09, 16 and 22, and loved them all. Would have loved to see them drop the OB suspension in it as a special edition homage to the Outback Sedan. I think that might actually have bumped sales some for people who want a sedan but some extra ride-height... Probably not enough to justify keeping it around, but some. I'm sad to see it go, but know it just wasn't worth keeping in production at 1/6th the sales of 3 models individually and less than 5% total for the brand.

I still miss the Legacy wagon. I've owned two; (95 & 05), both stick to boot! I think that at least part of the dismal sales could be attributed to the lack of advertising. I can't watch five minutes of TV without seeing an add for a Crosstrek, Outback, or Forester, juxtaposed with a song from some random band that I've never heard of, but I can't remember the last time I saw an add for a Legacy. After 2 1/2 frustrating years I finally got rid of my 2021 Legacy Touring XT. I like the seats and the sound system. I hated the constant buzzes and rattles from multiple places throughout the cabin (sunroof, dash, doors), the irritating driver focus system and worst of all, the poor drivability. The CVT and the turbo did not mesh well and at in town speeds it was constantly jerking and hesitating on acceleration. Of course the dealer said there was nothing they could do and there were no updates that might help. The only time it was reasonably smooth is if I really feather footed the throttle. Come down on it about mid way and it would hesitate and jerk with the fake shifts. It wasn't just me - a friend drove it while I was in the car and the first thing he said was "What's wrong with the throttle?". Plus it was a gas hog in town - high teens and low 20s. The naturally aspirated engine doesn't have that drivability issue nearly as much if at all (drove an Outback loaner while an oil pan leak was being fixed - that happened at 5K miles). Only time I really enjoyed it was crossing the country last summer. It ate up the miles and at constant highway speeds it wasn't an issue. What did I replace it with? A certified 2023 Hyundai Tucson Limited. It may be slower, but it doesn't have any squeaks, buzzes or rattles like the Legacy at the same miles, it's quiet, it rides well, gets much better city MPG and the traditional 8 speed automatic is so smooth compared to the Legacy's damned CVT. Yeah, first last and only Subaru I'll ever get.

A major factor is probably CAFE regulations. If a vehicle has over 8" of ground clearance it is classed as a light truck by CAFE and thus has to make a lower fuel economy target. Since increasing fuel economy is expensive it's easier for companies to raise the ground clearance of their vehicles. Ford has taken this to extreme and has discontinued all cars but the Mustang and I expect that Subaru is well on the way to doing the same with the Impreza probably the next to go leaving the BRZ has Subaru's only car.

That new WRX is a joke of it's former self. I've got a 2020 STI . So much more advanced with it's DCCD and purposes built suspension. So disappointed in the decisions Subaru is making. And Yes much of the decisions are based on the new CAFE standards, and the crazy EPA and it's new rules

I bought my first Subaru last summer. Yup, it is a 20202 Legacy Limited and I like it. The car is the perfect height for my Mom to get in and out of. The Forester and the Outback are too high for her. It is easier for her to get into and out of a car. I guess I will have to look at other manufacturers for cars. The Impreza was nice and all, but it was not so easy to put in a wheelchair and a walker. The Legacy handles that just fine.

I traded my Legacy in for a Crosstrek two months ago. I didn’t like how the Legacy front trim would get caught on sidewalks if I parked too close to them. The Crosstrek is awesome, though I think I should have gone for either the Forester or Outback for the extra storage space in the back. If I didn’t have kids needing to sit in the back seat, it wouldn’t matter. Dropping the seats does make for a lot more room.

The Market Decides. I get why. With increasing flood issues, a few extra inches of ground clearance (SUV vs sedan) can make all the difference. Like station wagon and minivan models before it, the sedan's day is waning. Still love my Outback Wilderness; drives like a high-tech sedan, not an older truck. Test drive a new one if you doubt it. And yes, Alex, this makes room for a new model hybrid or even EV model production.

Oh, also: Legacy fans who like either buying and then driving into the ground, or leasing, may very well come out ahead financially getting a 2025 Legacy and driving a very hard bargain on price. Yes, leasing too: you can bargain on the lease rate. Just don't expect to buy and then trade it in on a new model and come out ahead. Discontinued models typically don't do well in trade.

If the Legacy came with a liftback or sportback hatch, i think it would been a better selling car.. After that, raising the ground clearance would have been an easier decision and opportunity to follow through on the Subaru brand for a limited off road vehicle with decent cargo capacity when compared with other awd sedans. I have been considering on getting a 2025 Legacy Sport to replace my 2011 Forester Limited.

They need to remake it into an x6, arkana type thing. Widen the body, give it a lift and make an off road sedan. Subaru is such trend setters. They would nail something like that

My family has had four (2) legacy sedans, and I just purchased a 2024 Outback, but do miss the Legacy. I hope they replace it with something else or it looks like after about 25 years, Subaru is forcing me to switch brands. I like the Impreza, but it is too small for me. Fingers crossed since my Outback lease ends in three (3) years.

I always wanted a Legacy if I emigrated but looks like it might not happen now. I’d be doing a lot of highway mileage so didn’t want the mountain climbing or fuel consumption of a brick with the SUVs 😢 Also wanted a covered trunk if I’m carrying expensive stuff that I didn’t want on show. I’ve had hatch and sedan STis over here in the UK 🇬🇧 and don’t need a ‘Chelsea Tractor’ as the SUVs are known that manufacturers say we all want… I get the sales figures don’t help. They released a sedan legacy in the uk many years ago then killed if off after a couple of months as they said nobody wanted it compared to the estate version - we hardly had chance to get them… 😢 RIP Legacy

It makes so much sense to me for Toyota to re-badge the new Camry as a Legacy just like the BRZ/GR86 and Solterra/BZ4X. The Camry will have optional AWD so they would obviously make that not optional on the Lagacy. The new Camry is supposed to be so good that the Subaru would not be able to compete against it anyway.

Honest question, to those who still drive a sedan or a lower car, does it not bother you you cannot see past the car in front of you to gauge better how to drive? Not knowing for certain if you should pass them because they are driving too slow or not knowing they have no one in front of them.. how about, have you noticed everyone ignores you are driving and continually cut you off as if you were not there? Has it occurred that they being so high can’t even see you on their rear view mirror? Those are all reasons that made me change to an SUV

Thank you for another good video, but I still am not going to call the Outback an "SUV" because it does not fit the definition of an SUV which is a truck with a covered bed and added back seats, passenger train station wagons are long wheelbase car bodies with extended cargo space and extra passenger room to carry people and luggage from the train station back to the hotel, I know Subaru corporation wants to label Outback as an SUV, but I suspect that's because SUV's are popular and maybe Subaru marketing thinks they're going to sell more of them if they label them something that they are not. In my opinion, Outback is an extended car with a lifted suspension and did not start out as a truck like an SUV .

What I would like to know is when are more full-size sedans i.e. Toyota Honda, etc. going to come out with an all-wheel-drive engine. I know the Toyota Camry has an all-wheel-drive option, but it is a small electric motor and I don’t trust it. I would prefer to buy from Subaru, all-wheel-drive master. My favourite sedan in terms of luxury and looks is the Honda Accord and if it was all wheel drive, I would be there in a second given that I only have 12,000 km on my 2023 outback. It will be around for a while yet I hope.

Why Subaru doesn’t have a WRX version of the Crosstrek is beyond me… possibly for avg emissions over the entire lineup. Doesn’t need to be as intense as the old Focus RS or GR Corolla. Perhaps it’d create too much competition with the WRX?
