Just saw this on Practical Sailor and had to come over and check out your project. Absolutely brilliant and I can’t wait to see this build come together.

Hey Eddy. Just watched your interview on Practical Sailor. What an amazing and ambitious project, I am a subscriber now. I know you are contemplating inboard vs outboard. I would suggest inboard from a theft perspective. Outboards are being stolen worldwide at record rates even to the point they will simply saw out your transom to steal an outboard motor, big and small. Just my 2 cents. Good luck and I will be following!

@@barroosa oh I completely understand! That’s the reason we wanted to go to outboard! Specifically for that reason! I’ve been talking with boat builders and David the original builder and they all seem to think outboard is better over all. But time will tell which one we go with! You’ll have to tune in to find

Your project is so inspiring! Hey remember, that Hanneke, the co-designer of the boat is still around and passionate about all the wharrams as she is the one that actually designed and drew the plans with James Wharram. I've been following another restoration project and she has been super-helpful and kind to the guy doing the boat. I'm sure she'd love to give you tips on what you might want and need to do with it as you finish her to be waterborne!

Thank ya! I’m well aware of her and the work she had put forth with these amazing vessels! I am in contact with her, and hopefully we can work something out together to get this amazing opportunity sailing safely on day very soon!

Looks like a pretty solid boat, if still a project. Wharrams are legendary; should be perfect for your mission.

Probably the most important tip I can give you for a Wharram Catamaran I can give you, is for you to make damned Sure that every square inch is coated with a Termite proof coating as if unprotected from Termites, you are going to be floating around on a Free Restaurant for Termites and wood ants. This became such a big problem for Island Packet Agents Customers in the Caribbean- though the Termite problem exists in many other parts of the World, such that Termites are the number one producer of CO2 in the world- not that we have too much CO2 in the atmosphere, we actually have a serious Shortage of CO2 Content due to far too much being locked away out of the reach of Life and Biodiversity in the Oceans, which contain about 140 times more than the atmosphere, it is just a useful insight into the scale of the termite problem globally. I think the Termite proof product that Island Packet now uses, is called Starboard ? 🤔 Something you may want to look into is the serious Downwind Catamaran Sailing Problem suffered from what looks to be too Tall a Mast combined with a far too long Boom resulting in a very large and difficult to manage with a Classic Mast Main Sail, which looks to be causing a Wind Shadowing problem for the Head Sails ? I have been thinking about a related problem for Monohulls for many years now, and was thinking that a much reduced Mast Air Draft Height combined with a short Boom, combined with in Mast Furling, for fast easy Sail handling, plus protecting expensive Sailcloth from UV Damage now being pretty much vital - also the short Boom allows much stronger Sailcloth Construction with no Battens to be furled up out of harms way inside the Mast - ideally the Main Sail is of a Triradial Construction with say three reinforced Reefing points ? No battens means no chafing wear and tear, so reliable furling and unfurling with fast reefing, and Triradial Construction recovers most of the power lost from not having Battens - that information came directly from Precision Sails, which were the First people to tell me - yes we make them - instead of - we only do Main Sails with Battens - now, years later, it seems all Sailmakers make Battenless Main Sails 😅 If you go with in Mast Furling, the vertical alignment of the Mast requires the Base of the Mast to be within an inch of the Top of the Mast to help furling Reliability, so No Mast Bending for performance like a Racing Sailboat. Practical Sailor Channel recently hosted a Video on Sailboat Drones, that is really worth watching, as the Drone Makers look to have reached the Same Conclusions as I have, since the 1979 Fastnet Race Tragedy, and which we ‘Should’ have seen applied to Sailboats starting in the 1980’s but still haven’t, other than with Drones. Very long story short - Drones have confirmed that low Air Draft Mast Height and Short Booms do Work, such that one Drone was deliberately Sauled into a Category 4 Hurricane and back out again - Not that I would recommend doing that even with a Monohull, and definitely NOT on a Multihull ! But that type of Mast and Boom Setup can easily accommodate Upgraded Standing Rigging, has rapid reduction in Wind loadings and dramatically reduced Rigging Stress levels, so reliability is increased dramatically, tough Main Sail is going to be really difficult to blow out, the. the Remaining question becomes what are you going to use for Backup Propulsion, if you are going to be forced to motor through bad weather for literally days on end ? The worst experience in my life, other than the female De on I almost married, was. being Stuck in a Force 10.5 Plus stronger gusts and Mountainous Seas for three and a half Days. I was no use to man or beast, and that was the only time that I have ever been Seasick, and I have successfully prevented it ever since with Stugeron tablets- not available in the USA- but not the recommended 2 tablet dose - result fast asleep for 12 hours- instead, I take half a tablet about 30 minutes before going aboard, then take another half tablet with breakfast for the next four or five days depending on Sea conditions, until I have my Sea Legs. Watch that video on Drones, and give the ideas on Mast options etc some thought, plus backup propulsion - maybe diesel Saildrive in each hull ? But more power than less, being on an under powered Sailboat can be an absolute bloody nightmare, hence avoid Battery electric propulsion like the bloody plague as only Nuclear electric or gas turbine electric are the only ones fit to use in a Marine environment, same goes for stupid battery Outboard motors. Best of luck with your project, Practical Sailor got me to Subscribe. Bob in Wales.👍🌟🌟🌟⛵️🇬🇧🏴🍻

Finished production and decked out factory Tiki's go for $100.000 to on the very high end $300.000. Factory Catamarans go for $450.000 on the low end and up to millions of dollars on the high-end and anything in between.

@@Tjalie-j6i I think if you knew the back history of this particular build you’d understand where I came up with that figure (mostly ment to be a an excitement fill joke) Though being that this isn’t a traditional built Wharram, it was started by a professional builder, and the materials used, (no wood found on the build) you can see where it starts to add up fast: Thank ya either way my friend take care.
