Andrew's instagram. (Cave pics) instagram.com/quick__photography?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= This vertical cave is located in an area where there is a lot of homeless camps. Which is one reason it gets filled with trash and dead bodies. A few years ago they found a dead body in one of the caves. Given the nature of this cave being vertical and narrow and full of garbage I consider this one of the more dangerous things we have done. I don't recommend it even to my caving friends. This is one case where we continued on because we thought it would at least make an interesting video.

That's great that you joined a grotto. It's difficult to do much caving without an organized group. One of the great pleasures in all of this has been bringing light to some of the people I cave with. They are some truly excellent people who just go about their business and I like shoving my camera in their face and getting them some recognition for whatever that's worth. Just amazing skills and drive that you guys possess.. My question tough... The videos are very dependent on light source and by watching your videos, It seems that you explore more my feel. How is it, if you have ever experienced. Been deep into a cave and lost your light source? If so... is it more fear inducing or calming? Or depends on the situation.. Huge fan of the channel, big love to everyone
@CalvinHikes2 жыл бұрын
Losing light is something that never ever happens under any circumstances. We just carry too much. We have fire mechanical lights chemical lights and I've never had a battery operated LED fail. So it's a complete and utter non issue. It's difficult to see sometimes when light is in our faces but that's a little bit of a different issue. Still, it's blinding. But I also don't know any caver who is concerned about darkness. most of the things that people think of that might be a problem are never a problem. We do have problems but they are things that just wouldn't come to mind unless you are down here. Problems in most caves is the temperature is too cold. Problems in this cave stem from using vertical gear in narrow passages is necessary for safety but also a problem as your gear can get hung up on the rocks. And of course anytime you get in water the problem is more about temperature again than it is about drowning. The biggest problem with modern flashlight is they get too hot and will burn your hands. If they accidentally turn on they can melt your bag. They can catch gear on fire and then the smoke inhalation in a small space is a problem. We got a lot of batteries and that gear can have meltdown sometimes.
@illugi562 жыл бұрын
@@CalvinHikes Thanks for the reply :). Just curious, it isnt something that hasn't been addressed in the videos before or comment section, that i was aware of. Do those caverns ever fill entirely with water? Probably a dumb question but do you have to watch the weather? Also, you said you reached the end. How has all the trash not pooled at the end?
@CalvinHikes Жыл бұрын
It's better to ask the question because most people make assumptions and they are always wrong. Some caves will fill with water or block the entrance and others won't. So you need to know the cave and then you need to know the weather. but in our area very few caves can flash flood. The water in discave is probably partially seasonal. It may never completely dissipate but it will likely lower in the summer. Well that's what's disgusting a lot of the trash HAS pooled at the end. That's what the water is full of. Andrew thinks the cave may continue and is interested in checking it out in the summer and possibly pumping the water out. He's devising some bizarre plan so we'll see what happens.

How does all that shit get down there
@CalvinHikes Жыл бұрын
People throw it in the top. And over time, it works its way to the bottom. I've seen garbage in places in caves that no human has ever been and couldn't even reach. I have no idea how it works its way down there. Probably wind and water and whatever else. Maybe working its way through the soil.

So did you guys get to the end? Heard the other guys say it keeps going to the left and right but you said it ends? can you keep going if you have like scuba Steve gear?
@CalvinHikes2 жыл бұрын
Andrew thinks it continues but I don't. For a while we were devising ways to drain that water but currently those plans are on hold.

Omy how did those trash got till there.. im so confused right now are people really going down there to do drugs? Or do we have to blame the water
@CalvinHikes Жыл бұрын
There's a homeless community that lives above this area and they simply throw their trash in the top. And over time, aided by wind mud and rain, all the trash works its way to the bottom.

There's a bunch of caves on this Butte. This is the deepest but it's also the most horrific.

@@CalvinHikes hahaha I agree, at first I had a desire to get a group together to clean it up. As the video progressed that quickly changed. Glad you made it out without getting stuck with a needle!
