@Kelphelp7 жыл бұрын
This is alot harder to ask than you think though. PS1 titles to HD isnt as easy to translate as they tend to look very dated in every aspect. They have to build the game from the ground up and with a title like this fraid it wont happen.

Well for one camera angles are really bad but that could be fixed. The web swings makes you stop after about 2 swings, and people would due to ignorance get mad because the swinging isnt physics based like more new spiderman games. Combat is really simple, and webs just flat out dont control well. I literally just finished my third playthrough of the first game like a minute ago too, and while its really fun. I dont think people will be lining up for it.

The game was good but it had a lot of criticism being the following: 1- It was released in 2001 a month after 9/11 and a year after PS2 had come out. Everybody had seen the power of PS2 games such as GTA III and was not interested in PS1 games. 2- It was released on the PS1 as opposed to the first game which was released for the PS1, N64 and Dreamcast. 3- It was not advertised. Seriously. I remember picking this up in the store for cheap. When I got my PS2 in 2002 this was one of the only games I played because it was backwards compatible. I remember the first game being advertised this one wasn't. 4- It came out about 6 months before the movie game. This was foolish of the developers to do. Even the booklet advertised the movie game. 5- The reviews weren't good. The game was criticized for being too similar; and the story being weak- which it kind of was. the first story Spider-Man was accused of being a thief and everyone was after him. This story is much lighter. Overall, I feel the developers should've delayed this game for the PS2, XB and GC. They should've released it in 2003. In between the two movie games. This would've insured better sales for the game and a higher popularity.

I remember being really excited for "Enter Electro". Then after I played it, felt it was a decent sequel but really lacked alot of the charm of the first. Also, the fact that the next gen was quickly approaching, and I was looking forward the first Raimi film and game tie-in, this installment felt more like filler.
@Kelphelp6 жыл бұрын
Alot of factors definitely go into why it was forgotten, due to time stance, B list villains in game, and many other factors too.

I think people discount this game because it didn't feel like a sequel. It was more like an expansion of the first game. The rogues gallery was lack luster compared to the first. Very few characters from the last game returned. Other than better graphics and different characters, how was SPM 2 different or better than one? A sequel is supposed to improve on the original. This was barley on par.

Great video. I honestly LOVED this game (still have it along with the 1st part) and thought it was just as enjoyable. Better graphics, better character models, bigger/more expansive levels, street levels (a complaint that people had with the 1st part), more web based powers (electric and ice webbing), more combos, more variety in the missions and objectives, more/new suits to unlock, bosses took a bit more effort to defeat, etc. I also really like the contrast of how part 1 takes place mostly in the day time while part 2 takes place mostly at dusk/night. I think my only real complaint is that like the 1st part it has 6 villains (Lizard, Shocker, Beetle, Sandman, Hammerhead and of course Electro), but you only get to fight 5 of them as Beetle, while working with the other villains, was regulated to cut scenes. Wish they would have had him as a boss battle as well. Regardless, I think Vicarious Visions did a very solid job with the sequel and in my opinion it's both underrated and underappreciated.

I love both games, they are some of my favorite games, but i actually like this one more, i think that the story is better even without the cameos from other characters like the previous game had, i loved Spider Man 2000's story, but as i got older i started to notice some problems not to mention that i never liked what they did to Venom in that game, i like the more varied levels and objectives, some are just like the first game, others are on the streets, some you just need to fight, others you need to be quick, to be efficient with your webbing and others you need to think a bit, i really like the boss fights here, the game also feels more cinematic, that opening with Electro invading that building, the reunion where Hammerhead appears and the scene where Electro gets the jewel and goes to the not twin towers, i love stuff like that, and i think that the soundtrack is more low key thanks to this cinematic approach, i wouldn't say it's better or worse just different, the only thing i think it's sad that this game doesn't have compared to the first one is and action packed explosive level like the helicopter chases. I think that this game had all sorts of bad luck, there was the 9/11 that even made them change levels and their names(the airplane level was called crash flight), cutscenes and some story elements, there was the transition to another generation, the upcoming Spider Man movie and i'ts video game adaptation on the newer systems, but to me what possibly hurt the game the most is that weird "logic" that a lot of reviewers had where a game is great, but if the sequel feels more "like and expansion rather than a sequel" it's automatically a mediocre game, it doesn't matter if the sequel is just as great as the first, quite a shame.

I'd like to say it's because it was only released on the PS1 whereas the first game was released console-wide. I believe making it exclusive to the playstation killed it a bit because there may have been people who had a dreamcast version of the first game but dont want to buy a whole new system just for the sequel. Of course, now it's not necessarily as big of an issue as it was in 2001 but that's what i believe is the reason. Ports probably didnt happen since the next gen consoles at the time, as well as the sam raimi film were coming out and the focus was shifted to game versions of the film.

I played both as a kid and I’ve played both again recently. I remember when I was a kid I was amazed at the new things added in Spider-Man 2, however that wore off. Looking back at the games I’d say spider man 1 had more charm and was actually quite funny. Compared to spiderman 2 though it really lacked this, to me there was charm or humour. Not to say the game is bad as it’s not! It just lacked that Spider-Man 1 feel which is why I think people often forget about it, at least that’s why I do :)
@Kelphelp7 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I definitely had much more of an enjoyment playing the 1st Spider-Man rather than the 2nd. It definitely missed a charm that the 1st one was able to touch quite nicely.
@Danthepest17 жыл бұрын
It's not just that maybe there was less humor within the story (aside from Spidey himself), it's that there weren't as Marvel characters in the story or even as cameos compared to the first game. In the first game, you had Doc Ock, Carnage, Venom, Mysterio, Rhino, Scorpion, the Lizard (as an ally, oddly), Punisher, J Jonah Jameson, Daredevil, Black Cat, Mary Jane, Captain America, Johnny Storm and (in what if mode) Uatu the Watcher and Namor. Their presence added to the lively, colorful experience. In the second you have Electro, Shocker, Sandman, Hammerhead, Lizard, Beetle, Rogue, Charles Xavier, Beast & a picture of Thor on a newspaper. Coupled with a darker colour scheme, the scond game isn't nearly as colorful, lively and light hearted and it can put a lot of people off it if they play it after the first game. That being said, I love both of them. They were great for die hard spidey fans, especially the first one with all the fanservice. I wish we'd get Spider-man games like this again.

I think that it’s possible that one of the biggest reasons that this game was forgotten is that the N64, Dreamcast and PC versions were cancelled so it wasn’t on a large variety of consoles and systems like the first game. So I think that many kids didn’t play it because they didn’t have a PS1. Really great video by the way!

The web yank was in the first game (press down on the d pad while holding triangle). Little late to the party but thanks for this video. I also forgot about this game and the funny thing is I owned it. I think this game's biggest problem was its release so close to the Spider-man movie tie-in game which i think makes people remember the tie-in game because of the movie and forget about this one. That plus its release so close to September 11th probably left so many people on autopilot as far as memories go that when they think to that time in their life they don't think about Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro.

Got this one a while back for £5 (so around 6 dollars or so I guess), looking forward to doing it. Having a bit of a retro session lately, redoing Spidey 1 and then this one. Honestly I never picked up when it came out as I wasn't really aware of it, kind of flew under the radar somewhat, and also it was really at the tail end of the PS1 boom period and plenty of my mates at the time were PS2 by then. Only just come across your channel btw last couple of days, really loved the Spiderman 1 retrospective review mate, keep it going bro :)

Hey thank you so much man, alot of people really came to surprise me with how much they loved the PS1 title for Spider-man 1! Of course I plan on doing many many types of these kind of videos, they really are hella fun and amazing to produce, so be on the look out! The Dissidia is the latest one atm, so check it out man, and thanks again!

I think that this game got swept under the rug because of the PS2 was out by then, and the movie game was on the way.

For me Enter Electro is even a better game but the first game has Venom (my all time favorite Marvel's character).

I think there are 3 major factors here as to why nobody talks about this game 1. The first game was far more memorable 2. Unlike the first game, this was only available on the ps1, so less people were able to play it at the time 3. There’s little to nothing this sequel did to be better than the first game, it looks better and has its own story, but what else? What makes this a necessary experience if you have the first game?

Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro isn't a prequel to the 2000 Spider-Man game, it's a sequel. EDIT: It's weird that you said it's a prequel and then later say it's a sequel without acknowledgement of your mistake.

Okay you glossed over some things, but here goes. First of all the game did come out after 9/11 so that affected it's sales. But, the game was not properly advertised as the first one was. I found out about it because it was in the stores. 2nd, this game came out after PS2 was released. When this game was released people were interested in GTA III and Final Fantasy X. Not to mention Gamecube and Xbox were coming out. You can see how this game fell to the sidelines. Third: the movie game has already been announced. The movie game came out 5 months later. It actually came out before the movie and rumor has it that it created problems by spoiling the story. But that's another story. 4th: The story in this game wasn't as fun as the first one. The boss battles weren't as fun and it just didn't catch. So there you have it.

I feel it was more forgotten then Spider-man 2000 due to the level designs.. In Enter Electro the levels just were not as fun as the first... Like in the first game "bank robberies" "police chases" "going through tunnels chasing down venom".... Compared Enter Electro like "finding keys for a bomb" "Disabling gun turrents" "stopping a plane" "all the puzzle like levels" surely you catch my drift.... Like I find myself completing Spider-man 2000 from first level to last level around 40 minutes and never get bored, where with Enter Electro I play through a few levels and get bored and turn the game off to play something else.. What's your opinion on that @Kelphelp ? Would be interested too know your thoughts

It was so awful to see how the movies, after this game, completely took over the Spider-Man games, right down to character designs. Gone were the voice cast who had some passion for the roles, replaced instead with unenthusiastic movie soundbites. Even if the games improved on a gameplay level, the creative vision was hobbled for years after this because of the constant need to tie into the movies.

louthegiantcookie Well insomniacs Spiderman looks pretty damn good and seems to take some liberty at what it does man, so that might be the one to really break the cycle

I remember this game and it feels it came in too late. I like the Game. But not as good as the original. Also there is no Port at all like PC or other platform. I use to eat the SPIDERMAN Cereal. And it has a Offer for a Free copy of SPIDERMAN 1 (PC port) for Free.
