Why didn't DUMBLEDORE destroy the Elder Wand?

Why didn’t Professor Dumbledore DESTORY the Elder Wand? We know that he intended for himself to be its LAST OWNER! BUT How certain was he that the wand would NOT interpret his self-arranged death as a defeat? Even if the Elder Wand is rendered OWNERLESS … Ollivander is sure of ONE thing: The WAND Chooses the Wizard and The Elder Wand recognizes POWER … Dumbledore didn’t trust ANYONE else to master this Hallow, so if there was ANY DOUBT in his mind… why not just destroy it? Perhaps there is NO way to destroy it! The second hallow was the resurrection stone found in Marvolo Gaunts Ring. Voldemort turned this RING into a horcrux, and we know that in order to DESTORY a horcrux the object containing the soul fragment needed to be damaged beyond any and all repair YET the resurrection stone STILL WORKED? One might argue that the horcrux was just the ring and not the stone? The third horcrux was the Cloak of Invisibility which would NOT fade with age! It had a self preserving quality and provided its wearer with everlasting protection! So if the Elder Wand can’t be destroyed, like it was in the film, then Dumbledore attempted the next best thing: Render it OWNERLESS or allow it to pass to Severus Snape! In the books the elder wand wasn‘t destroyed by Harry. He used it to repair his own Phoenix wand and put the deathly hollow back in to Dumbledore‘s grave. Harry said, if he dies a natural death, the power of the Elder wand will be broken for good… i like this version way better than the movie one!!!

Unless the wand works differently because Harry is the Master of Death. It’s not Harry dying a natural death. It’s Harry not loosing a fight for the rest of his life. Remember, Harry gained possession of the Wand from Draco when Draco wasn’t even in possession of the Wand. If the wand functions the same way for Harry. Literally any time he legitimately loses a fight. The Wand would choose the person who beat him as the owner. Seeing as how Harry went on to become an Auror. It’s very likely Harry would, at some point or another. Lose a duel and possibly even die. I like the idea of breaking The Elder Wand far better. You can add the caveat that only the Master of Death can do it but it still makes much more sense to break it. Both logically and thematically. The most powerful wand being broken by its current true master is a rejection of the temptation of its power. Something the wand, if the Deathly Hallows tale is true, was designed specifically to do. Kill it’s owner by making others crave that power for themselves. All owners of the wand, at least the significant ones, wanted the extreme power of the wand and power in general. The eldest brother wanted the wand specifically to be the best wand. Grindelwald wanted the wand for its power and sought to bring about a new age where wizards were on top with him higher than the rest. Dumbledore, similar to Grindelwald, wanted the wand for its power. Dumbledore himself admitted that power was his one weakness. It’s why he never accepted the role of Minister of Magic. Voldemort wanted the wand because he wanted to basically rule the world with its power. Harry, on the other hand, only wanted the wand to prevent Voldemort from getting it. Just like how he wanted to get the Philosopher’s Stone. He became its master without even knowing it. It just makes sense that this final rejection of power proves Harry is the Master of Death.

There aren't many things the movies do better than the books but I have to say, breaking the elder wand was much better than what happened in the books. By leaving the elder wand in Dumbledore's grave, all it takes is for Harry to get disarmed _once_ during his whole career as an Auror, for the elder wand to change allegiance.

I don't think, Dumbledore thought about destroying the wand. After all, his greatest flaw was being selfish. All his life he dreamt of uniting the Deathly Hollows. Of course, his plans to rule the world changed, but I think, it was still a dream to find them. Also the wand belonged to Grindelwald and Dumbledore might have looked at it with sentimental value.

Meaning that not only did he anticipate his own death, and also Harry's, but that by the time all was said and done more and more of his horcruxes would be destroyed leaving him vulnerable to a sudden defeat by a newly resurrected harry. In the books (which I still haven't read, shame on me I know) it says Harry used the Elder Wand to repair his own wand and placed it afterwards in Dumbledore's grave. Yet the film shows Harry almost effortlessly snap the wand in two. I really wish that given this was the Legendary Elder Wand it wouldn't be so easily snapped, but thats what was shown. It would have been nice to hear a great reason such as "Its the Elder Wand. It cannot be easily destroyed." I dont think one of the most powerful wizards of all time would be disarmed by a teen on top of that by accident. I think dumbeldore knew draco couldn't kill him. Yet he let him disarm him. Not only that but draco would be the safest option, since Voldemort obviously knows about snape killing Dumbledore. Dumbledore knew that he would kill snape to get possession of the wand. The Elder Wand was such a large part of the plot. Draco disarms Dumbledore but Voldemort thinks it belongs to Snape since Snape killed Dumbledore. Harry disarms Draco so the wand answers to him. Dumbledore must have known it was the object could lead to Voldemort’s downfall. Even his choice to be buried with it almost ensured Voldemort would find it or else Dumbledore would have gone to greater measures to hide it.

Movie mistake, Harry fixing his wand because he “liked it better” coupled with the fact of his intent to destroy the elder wand. I contend, tho, that the Elder wand chose its owner over and over again, as it was a very strong wand. And if the legend of the Three Brothers were true, Death could not be outsmarted so well. In noticing the Three Brothers avoiding death, he basically had them each choose the manner of his own demise. Yes, the Elder wand changed hands throughout history by killing the owner, but it might have been imbued with another power-or maybe an intrinsic factor was enhanced: that of choosing its owner. Why should a wand such as that be subject to change hands only after being won? I don't think Dumbledore expecting the Elder Wand to pass on to Snape. He had to know if given a reason, Voldemort would not hesitate to kill Snape if he stood in his way of acquiring the wand. As in both the movie and the books, Voldemort understood that the wand only passes by a wizard killing the previous owner, not by disarming, so by that logic it would make sense for Voldemort to do that, even to whom he believed to be his most loyal servant. I fully believe Dumbledore hatched a plan to present Harry with every available option at his disposal to defeat the Dark Lord, even access to the Elder Wand. He understood that when Draco came to kill him, he expected Draco to disarm first as he didn't have the nerve to actually do the job. Dumbledore even made it easier for Draco by not fighting back. He probably understood that at some point Draco's and Harry's paths would cross and Harry would prevail in disarming Draco, thus passing on possession of the wand to Harry. Very convoluted planning by Dumbledore, but I believe he would take into account all the various variables that could possibly happen. Dumbledore may have had an ego, but he wasn't stupid.

Maybe it has something to do with Grindewald. ooh i wish they continued making fantastic beast movies, then we would be able to see the epic final fight between dumbledore and grindewald and maybe we get to see in that last film of fantastic beast (where grindewald and dumbledore should do the final fight) why dumbledore didn't destroy the elder wand, because maybe did the elder wand choosed Dumbledore to be his true master, as we know grindewald just stole the elder wand and we don't know if he made the elder wand fully his? maybe dumbledore didn't destroy it because after all he was gay and together grindewald and he should rule the wizarding world ( but dumbledore said no ) and maybe after he defeated grindewald he took the want because maybe it reminds him of grindewald and then did the elder wand maybe choosed Albus to be his true master. this are just some theories but i hope they will continue making fantastic beast

Either you need to be master of death to have the option. Something Dumbledore had but didn't realize with the ring. Or wanted to leave that kegacy to Harry. Or. He couldn't. There was a part of Dumbledore that was just as dark as the wizard he was facing and deep down he wasnt willing to let it go. In this aspect Harry was a better man. Who knows, but that is kind of the charm isn't it?

Dumbledore meant for snape to have the wand cause dumbledore understood what Voldemort didn’t. U don’t have to kill the acquire the wand Snape was supposed to be protect the students of Hogwarts and his job would have been easier with the elder wand
